Ultimately, though, it's down to the writing. Trust us? Image IPB

With regard to the writing, I have not the slightest doubt. You, Mary, and Sheryl will rock DA2 as you did DA:O. The personality system you're describing sounds intriguing. I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing it in action.

With regard to the combat, as long as the pause remains available, I trust you guys to make it even better than DA:O.

The animators are top notch and the new human models look great.

The new art direction for the 'barren' environments and the skeletor/darkspawn? Well, just not my cup of tea. I'll be buying the game despite the new art direction, not because of it, and hoping it doesn't detract too much from the larger experience.

It's true that people play Bioware games for the characters, not the environments. But as Tolkien understood perfectly, the world in which the characters live and breathe IS a character in it's own right. The visual expression of that character is what we see when we look at the environments. And right now, the environments look pretty darned dull. It's almost like you've cast Bill Gates as an action hero or something. I take some heart, though, in David's mention that we've only seen the blightlands so far. I am hoping that we see non-blightland environments soon and that the world of DA2 turns out to have some personality of it's own after all.

But regardless, I want to say I really appreciate the extensive and patient developer comments and explanation in this thread. Posts like these are the main reason for me regularly visiting this forum. So big kudos to David and Mike.

You realise they have only shown one environment so far and it's the area known only as the 'Blightlands' to locals, right? One of the reasons the Blight is so dangerous is it's affect on the land, I'd be kind of surprised if it wasn't barren. As for textures, well as has been stated many times: They have 6-7 months to get the game finished yet. :)

This is another effect of your dominant personality: it will change
elements of your soundset. So if you're picking the humorous options, as
the previewer did, you're going to start cracking wise in combat (and
other places).

Love the sound of this, I actually really liked the soundsets in DAO for what they were, but this looks like it'll be even better.

Based on what Mr Gaider and others said this new dialog wheel might work and may be a welcome addition. There is one thing that puzzles me. From what I understand of ME2's voice acting the audio files take lots of space which limited the overall dialog options. If this new dialog system is using more voice acting per dialogue option will this result in even less overall dialog than ME2?

QFT

How does having Hawke voiced for both genders limit the amount of dialogue or other content that can be included in the game?

Elf and dwarf options to start with. They would mean 4 files more.

Why exactly would it want to step out of the shadow of Baldurs Game when it was specifically marketed as a spiritual successor? Oh, money. I see.

money does not equal bad.  Why do people think like this?  I don't understand it.  Every good product that people have ever had is a result of people trying to make more money.  Like they all volunteered for some quasi-religious cause when they made Baldur's Gate or something.

Nostalgia only takes you to a point. That point was more than 3 million sales. It seems someone high thinks the game sold despite of gameplay rather than because of it.

A game isn't allowed to develop it's own IP, it must always be in the shadow of another? Oh, rose colored glasses. I see.

Origins was marketing that way. Dragon Age 2 has never been marketed as a spiritual successor. A sequel does not need to be identical to the previous game, it's not as if Baldur's Gate didn't change a helluva lot between titles.

That's the point, money.
It's not about making the game a better CRPG, it's about re-designing it to appeal to the console user-base, flipping off what the game was in the first place.

Every game you actually like (although it sounds like there are only like two or three of them) was made in order to make more money, too.

After reading PC combat is also button-masher I´m far closer to not buying the game than to get it. At least I don´t have to worry about not following the Warden story as it didn´t anyway. Time to go to old games and indies.

Who said that? Laidlaw sad there wouldn't be a delay between ordering a talent or spell's use and its activation, but that  isn't at all the same thing.

Edit: never mind., Found the report. Which seems to be inaccurate in part -- possibly as a result of bugs?

You shield bash a guy, and he falls down and then you shuffle up into position and eventually, usually at the same time as he stands up, you get, maybe, one swing in. As I've said before, it was like the game was taking your orders like suggestions that it would eventually get around to executing.

I really liked how DAO did that.  It felt realistic, like the fight scenes in Excalibur.

Remember those?  There's that chase scene at the beginning with Uther running away from brigands, but he's wearing heavy armour, and he's in a swamp, so he moves slower than I can walk.  Combat in DAO felt like that, and it was awesome!

If everything I do flows from one move to the next I feel like a superhero, and that's just not credible.

I agree. While I look forward to Dragon Age 2 and don't mind the crazy superhero stuff, there does seem to be too many superheroes in videogames.

It's like Superman, I hate superman stories, because he's just way too ridiculously overpowered and you have to make ridiculously overpowered villians to include some sort of drama but it is all just too ridiculous that the drama is overshadowed. When I heard that Superman died at one point, I just burst out laughing. Didn't know what happened, just someone told me.

I would like to fear for the main character's life once in a while. Make someone too fantastical, and the only way one can relate is by the person's emotions. Sure its the main character and such, but they could always replace the main character part way through the story and such....

Anyway, it is just part of the Dragon Age gameplay, so no real change happening, but I wanted to voice my agreement that a future game where a person acts like a real person would be welcome. Rant over.

Maybe you didn't hear the part where you don't get to choose your race. :pinched:

I hope the battle cries are varied enough that the same ones don't just repeat and repeat. My female rogue must have said "its a trap, a cunning trap" a hundred times. Also my sarcastic male warrior kept saying something about "getting a ladder to get off my back" at least as often. PC comments are good to have IF they aren't done to death.

oh my god the "ladder to get off my back" comment was SO ANNOYING.  One of the few things I really hated about DA:O.

Realistic? Like when your 2H special attack were so slow that their effect touch enemies that have allready switched target (since the AGGRO of 2H was too low) and were several meters away? It wasn't realistic, it was hilarious. I've nothing against the game being more responsive untill those changes do not touch the tactical nature of the game. For that, we will have to wait and see.
