Conceived of when NWN was newly released, this module was planned as one of sixteen interlinked concurrently running modules. At that time, hardware and hosting options being what they were, it was envisioned that about 100-200 Areas per module would be the limit. As the project evolved, and the scripts became very refined and efficient, it was discovered that the stable configuration could be obtained with as many as 500-1000 Areas per module. Since then, our scripts have become even more refined, and, as of this writing, the core module for the series “City of Dohral” comprises over 1100 Areas, and will likely top-out around 1500 total.

DO NOT LET THE SIZE FOOL YOU, nor should you fear it.

There is NO LAG here on the server end, as our modern server is located in a secure data-center with redundant power and internet connections, it is provisioned with a robust processor, large fast hard drive and sufficient memory. This LINUX machine has experienced as much as a full year between crashes, and the crash this author caused by not properly testing his code (naughty me, I won't do it again).

FINDING OTHER PLAYERS is easy here... the 'beaten trail' or Areas frequented by entering PCs are modest in number, while having so many Areas to explore means your PARTIES don't have to constantly bump into other PARTIES in dungeons – there is plenty of space to explore, all logically assembled. Inns and other restful locations are scattered about the lands in good number and well-trafficked Areas. Resources needed for camping are likewise to be found (most often just off the 'beaten trail') so your PCs can 'live off the land' if you feel it necessary – though this may precipitate its own dangers in your path.

This module includes all of the city of Dohral, all of Tivook Province, Esrogoth Province, portions of the Howling Mountains, the better part of the Illfaw Fen and touches upon locations including the Isle of Brandolay, Zenisle, Vestalla, Andre Isle, Weglub Isle, several Lost Isles, a few Tidal Flats, numerous inland caves, the Feylands, the Maze and Trolloch (a vast and deadly place).

Suitable for 1st through 40th level characters. The module is of broad scope with NO RAILS so be mindful that your PC or PC group can get in over their heads if they do not behave sensibly (e.g. a party of first levels seeking information about a dragon). Adventures exist here for all levels of PC, solo or in parties of up to ten.

ROLE PLAY - ENHANCED!

Featured here is the original IMMERSION TOOL for PCs. It allows the PLAYER to create a custom backstory for their PC which is then an integral part of the game! Other PCs who get to know your PC will know some details about them which will make discerning doppelgangers or disguised impersonators easier to spot. Further, spies can spy on your PC to learn about your family and friends, and other information that could cause your PC trouble later. DMs can use the data to better custom make adventures to suit your PCs motivations and desires. The very choices you make about your PC in using this tool can impact game play in hundreds of ways; your choices matter.

There are a number of features that distinguish this work from others – some of which bear mention here. First among these are the style of mapping; most maps are built to be contiguous in nature, abutting edge-to-edge, where most modules are built in a vignette mapping style. In typical vignette style module building, the builder only builds the 'interesting' parts where particular scenes are planned to occur. In contrast with the vignette style of building, this module, and all related modules, follow a mapping convention that allows for the complete mapping of a region. The DM is then free to make any part of the journey the 'interesting' one, and tension can be built up by having ... nothing happen, at times.

Other features include :

Many enhancements for each character class (rangers can track, scavenge for food, hide in trees, more) - each class has been boosted with minor 'rounding out the class' abilities. Come see why your fav class is better here!

ADVANCED LOCOMOTION: Flying, swimming, climbing, jumping, swinging and more!

We've added over 60 spells, most from the original DND games (mostly version 3.0-3.5 stuff), including WISH, LIVOAK, JUMP, SPIDERCLIMB, FLY, MASS FLY, WATERBREATHING, BLINK, TELEPORT(several), SCRYING, FORCECAGE, MOONRUNES, WALL OF FORCE, WALL OF ICE, WALL OF STONE, DISINTEGRATE, ALARM, and many many more. We add to the spells too on a constant basis, so our game evolves and newly discovered or re-discovered lore enters the game from time-to-time. Spellcaster PCs can actually RESEARCH new spells here. Crafting is deluxe.

Many small adjustments were made to allow many classES, especially WARRIOR classes to command soldiers (not like NPCs but like soldiers). Systems are in place to give FIGHTERS a +1 on any melee weapon equipped. Allowing nature classes to track, find and use hidden trails, scavenge, more. Paladins and others can Detect Evil, spellcasters can Detect Magic, anyone can detect Scrying (sometimes).

There are other added features such as ROGUE use of windows (open/close/lock/un~/break/peek/listen/enter), theft of placeable objects (think artwork), GRIFTING, EXTORTION, and more. We got smokebombs you can craft too!

Druids and shifters are given additional forms and forms are worth having as they get abilities commensurate to the creature. Examples include wolves scent tracking, felines resting in trees, penguins being exceptional swimmers, and more. Yeah, did I mention we have swimming? Jumping? Climbing? Even filters that limit entry by size, so being a pixie means you can SLIP THRU THE BARS OF A PORTCULLIS OR GRATE.

We have some subraces like Drow, Vampires, Lycos (the latter two are contagious too), and others. We take requests on subraces btw, and can turn them out with surprising speed (one fellow asked about one on Sunday and was testing it Monday).

Alas, there are more fine details to discuss, perhaps you'll visit and we can dialog on some of the features? We love to get feedback, it helps us broaden our perspectives. Share yours?

The action is fierce, the RP intense, the setting amazingly detailed. Come see for yourself why this is one of the fastest growing PWs around.

I popped in here about a week ago.

Folks, I will tell you that the amount of work that these guys have put into this server is apparent as soon as you log in.

Time constraints kept me from exploring deeply, but if the initial time I spent has anything to say it was that this is like playing a new version of NWN.

Enjoy yourselves!

As both a major player and DM, I have to say this is my favorite server still running. The world just sucks you in and makes you want to stay. In its current stages, theres a LOT of room for players to say "Hey, doncha think this would be cool?" and throw up a suggestion on our forums. Even IG theres room for development, so come stop in and see what you can do. Maybe you could be a powerful noble, or at the very least the one pulling the strings. :D

THANKS FOR THE KIND WORDS!

I'd also like to emphasize that we have some unique and interesting systems to promote and enable new levels of ROLE PLAY. First, we REWARD RP; our systems analyze all text you put in TALK, WHISPER, and PARTY and creates a pool of XP as a reward for RP. NO DM INTERVENTION REQUIRED for this system so you don't have to get the attention of a DM, or deal with some players gaining more XP that YOU for the same level of RP. These XP for RP are awarded on your next visit (as we finalize the tally on your pool when you logout). More, your PCs will earn XP for exploring new Areas. PCs also earn XP for 'class actions', such as rogues looting, or mages collecting tomes.

Beyond these rewards for good role play - we also give over the controls to the PLAYERS - on ArgentumRegio, you the PLAYER can create a backstory for your PC that impacts your game experience. Game systems are in place that play off of your backstory choices - in ways you have never seen before in any computer game.

Our humble goal here; bring NWN as close to our PNP experience as we can manage.

Come see what progress we've made and the sort of fun we're having - there is room for MANY on this robustly provisioned server (in a secure data center with FAT internet connection and system redundancy on both connection and power - a linux box that runs ONLY NWN). Join us and lag becomes a distant memory!

Be well. Game on!

This is my favorite server. There is so many things that have been added to make it like PnP. Climbing, going through windows, swinging on ropes, swimming. There is hunger, thirst and fatigue, but they go down so slowly that you really don't have to think about it every 2 seconds like some games. They have a whole tutorial to help new players too. You have to come by and check it out.

Thank you for the kind words Blooody751! It is always nice to find you online too!

New updates this week, see our forum for details!

We have new and established DMs online this week and are looking forward to much more player plotting and skulduggery ... recent plots have involved some lycantropy (were cats), a bit of otherworldy strangeness and also some trade exploration.

The server is robust, dedicated server in a secure datacenter with redundant power and internet connections - in short IS VERY FAST. So come one come all and help us put this fine 1100+ Area module through her paces!

Hope to see you online!

The server continues to grow and evolve. The latest advance in the Immersion Tool is in - so have a look and get your feedback in on what may still be missing from this amazing and unique RP tool!

PLAYER GUILDS are forming now, come join one and help us in our many adventures!

This server is a MUST SEE. NO LAG. CRASHES ON AVERAGE ONCE A YEAR! NO RESETS REQUIRED! NWN has never been so solid as it is here.

Updates about twice a week at present (our Lead Scripter Eriniel is back from the summer heatwave) and the advances we make on each update are utterly unbelievable. If you have not seen this server yet, you really owe yourself this treat. If it has been a while since you visited, come look what we've improved since those days.

This is as close to PnP DnD as NWN gets!

Hope to see you online soon!

This is a pretty nice server if your floating around on the liminal state of deciding upon a PW to try. The scripting is genius the last time I visited (though that is some time back), and there is plenty to explore. The size is a bit cumbersome, as is the scope, which may not appeal to everybody, but definitely a place to visit at least once. If anything, you really get to see what nwn can do.

This server is growing in popularity and is getting positive reviews both here on this board and elsewhere. If you have not visited this server yet, or have not visited in a while, you would give yourself a real treat by visiting ArgentumRegio 'cityofdohral' (City of Dohral) today.

It is an ENGLISH LANGUAGE server, with amazing RP-enhancing systems of unique nature and tremendous scope. See for yourself the PROJECT

checked back dwarf was present so with another player helping made it through the multiple transitions to get to the city, wandered abit

- inventory is so stacked with items it is hard for first timers to find anything

- resting one day at the inn was to cost 45 copper it cost 450 platinum

- went to several stores/shops the conversation prompts are confusing

ie in the furrier you want to by something to protect you from cold that just went through the area, but he doesnt sell furred clothing, he sells crafting materials

- all npcs are named their profession in all caps, names would aid in immersion

- inn rooms have no beds just empty chambers

this was very confusing to me and i have played this game since it came out , so i can imagine those just buying off the GoG site will be overwhelmed

too much clutter in some aspects and too much empty space in others

ill check back soon, maybe some changes will have been made for streamlining somewhat

By this I surmise you disregarded all the posted advice for new players to enter the game through the TUTORIAL areas aka Haggis the Dwarf's "Practical Entrance". I strongly recommend new players visit our TUTORIAL - it is well built and will help you understand which items of inventory might be important for your style of play. PCs start out on a long ship voyage, and have all their worldly possessions on their person - this is done not only because travelers on planned long voyages tend to do so but also because it is not easy to find gear while on the ship at sea nor immediately on entering a new city where one must hunt down needed items. FYI, this week's addition is warm boots and cloak for all new PCs.

Which inn did you go to? The furrier trades furs only, buying from trappers and selling to crafters. Tailors are the best place to buy ready to wear garb for future reference.

- all npcs are named their profession in all caps, names would aid in immersion
- inn rooms have no beds just empty chambers

I'm curious which inn you went to they are all furnished as I recall, though a place this size (1200 + areas) I may have missed something.

I am sad to hear of your confusion, and would again strongly recommend you take a PC through our TUTORIAL areas (aka NOOB U.) where you can learn what the tools are for and which you may find most useful in your particular style of play.

Hope to see you online.

A bit of constructive feedback if you don't mind:

1) The starting areas are very cumbersome; there are numerous text messages popping up, which can be hard to keep track of when first starting off.  I eventually started skimming over the initial information on the basis that the random CAPS LOCK made it simply difficult to maintain interest.

2) "NOOB U" is a grand idea, but needs to be re-fleshed to work efficiently.  There are far too many message boards that require reading throughout the initial tutorial; again, the random CAPS makes it hard to even want to pay attention to what information is presented.

3) Inventory is way too jam packed; new players (typically) don't want to have to push through around 100+ items in their backpack to figure out what's what.  Not to mention that really outrageous number of items encountered throughout the NOOB U area(s).

4) Came to a corridor with 2 stones blocking a door; selecting these rocks awarded some XP, but did nothing to move the boulders.

5) The slow effect aftering encountering a 'vern/vine' to climb lasts a significant amount of time, also the damaging effects are irritating since it has nearly killed my PC.

6) Came to a point near the Resource Gathering tutorial that doesn't allow any further progression.

7) Lots of script/errors running in the 'non-chat' window throughout my time playing.

--- --- --- ---

In any case, it is clear there has been SIGNIFICANT amounts of time and effort put into the module.  I can tell that anyone that goes 'all in' to this server will really enjoy it.  I'll check back in occasionally; but tbh it involved a bit too much 'preparation' before actually getting into the module for a new player.

We appreciate all constructive criticism. Bear in mind, from the perspective of a new player with limited knowledgeof what we are doing, not all observations are equally useful. To paraphrase: we adopt requests based on viability as judged by the builders who have the whole module in mind.

RANDOM caps, not at all. CAPS are used for EMPHASIS especially as there is no bold or italics we've found in the text that NWN delivers.
The starting areas are,
A) entrance with three signs to read, two more if you want cleric/deity info and an exit. There are two 'pop up texts' that are fired by trigger.
B) the DMFI DM Start Room - the FIRST room of which has a pop up text in it instructing that if you are here for a scheduled event you should wait in the foutain room beyond, if not, talk to Haggis McSnarfer (the only NPC in the room) to proceed directly to the game by the PLAYER choice of PRACTIAL (the tutorial area or NOOB U as we call it) or DRAMATIC (which places the PC on board a ship at sea, with a lump on the PC's head after two 'dream sequence areas' - meant to be nightmares imparted via a fall on board the ship) entrance.
I'm at something of a loss here as I cannot fathom what is 'very cumbersome' in that, perhaps you could provide detail on your perspective?

Evelath wrote...

There are no RANDOM CAPS. We use CAPS for EMPHASIS. Please give us examples of what you feel are RANDOM CAPS among these signs? There is no substitute for reading these, we have gone to great lengths to provide information for those who wish to absorb it. This info is provided first in Noob U., second in your JOURNAL, thirdly in an item called Krag's Notes in your inventory. We provide multiple ways to avail ones' self of the information but have yet to perfect the 'absorb by osmosis' method in a script. *shrugs*

Your PC starts this adventure on a long ship voyage. Your PC has ALL THEIR WORLDLY POSSESSIONS ON THEM, this is totally IC. It is further ruled that, especially as your PC starts on a long ship voyage where there are NO merchants on the ship to sell you goods (tho there are a few crates a PC could steal from that does not suit all classes obviously) we provide the PC with all the gear we think they may need. Again this is in keeping with the PC being on a long sea voyage. It is deemed easier to allow the PC to discard what they feel they will not need, than it is to deprive them of needed gear and dump them on a ship where gear options are severely limited or in a strange city there to search for items they quite likely have never seen or have no knowlege of (as a new player).

Noob U., Krags Notes, and the Journal DO illuminate what these items are used for, but if you choose not to read, you are free to experiment with them (though I consider the latter far less effective).

The gear in Noob U is all mundane gear, and meant to give the new PC a choice of items, control of their PCs start equip, with minimum effort and no cost. It is also a lure to bring new PCs and PLAYERS to Noob U. where they can get gear they desire FREE and even avail themselves of up to lv 4 by use of the lever found there.

Evelath wrote...
4) Came to a corridor with 2 stones blocking a door; selecting these rocks awarded some XP, but did nothing to move the boulders.

They must be moved or destroyed to access the door, which I thought would be rather obvious as they block the only door through which a PC may travel. I'll ponder adding a text clue there (even though the coughing sound on the other side of the debris was meant to 'urge the PC to dig through' perhaps that is not sufficient.

Evelath wrote...
5) The slow effect aftering encountering a 'vern/vine' to climb lasts a significant amount of time, also the damaging effects are irritating since it has nearly killed my PC.

The SLOW effect comes from A) falling during a rope climb, B) falling from a swinging vine/rope, C) falling from a freeclimb. The damaging effect you refer to may be the COLD WEATHER impacting your PC. Try putting on the warmer clothes we thoughtfully provided in your inventory. Dying in Noob U has NO lasting effect on your PC, this is meant to allow you to 'learn and explore with abandon in Noob U.' when your PC dies in the tutorial, you port to the start of the tutorial near MC OOC ("That's M-C-OH-OH-Cee!").

Evelath wrote...
6) Came to a point near the Resource Gathering tutorial that doesn't allow any further progression.

Perhaps you can give me a better idea of where that was - I really don't have enough detail here to surmise the spot. Regardless, several of the 'side' tutorials are cul-de-sacs that you leave by the door you entered.

Evelath wrote...
7) Lots of script/errors running in the 'non-chat' window throughout my time playing.

The server is in late BETA TEST and we do run our essential debug texts through that window as we often test them ourselves logged on as a PC. When BETA test is completed that window will be much less crowded.

THANK YOU - yes, I've been building this since NWN came out, my 'partner in code' has been with me for three years on the project - I cannot even guess how much time went in so far, but it is a labor of love to be sure. I would be interested in getting more detail on your points above if you should be of a mind to, perhaps we could walk the tutorial area together to get more 'contextual' reference?

I look forward to hearing from you.

I would love dropping in and going through the starting areas. I'm very happy to see such a response to critiques (you're replies clearly showed a passion for your server, with a significant understanding of a differing opinion.)

My goal was to demonstrate an opinion of a brand new player, so I hope it helped. My schedule is pretty jam packed; as I am constructing a server of my own; but will definitely try to catch you when I have some spare time.

I TOTALLY appreciate your input - the input of all PLAYERS and especially new ones. When 'fresh eyes' go over a work, it can reveal a host of 'issues overlooked due to over-familiarity'. Some days, I feel like a NWN pimp, as I constantly try to bring new eyes on and draw as much of the new players' observations from them as possible. :D

One fellow, recently visited, who was a BIG FAN of rogue PCs, after looking at what we offered and discussing that, we strayed onto this PLAYER's pet peeve in NWN re: rogues. "I hate locks that require a specific key," the player extorted, "they totally break my rogue!"

I thought about that for a moment and, after thanking him for the input, asked "How would it be if EPIC rogues could MAKE custom keys?"

Needless to say, it was an idea VERY well received by this PLAYER and within the week, we had scripted that very solution.

I always say, feedback is GOLD.

Just let me know what day and time might be good for you and I'll do my best to accommodate - I'm disabled and home pretty much all the time so chances are we can work out something convenient to us both.

THANK YOU again for your input, I look forward to dialoging with you more when you are able to find a mutually workable time slot.

Be well. Game on.

The ArgentumRegio (the Silver King) server continues to grow and improve. This server is stable, robust, and feels like a world (with over 1200 areas to explore!). Come see how close to PNP a couple scripting perfectionists can bring NWN - I think you will be, as many before you, quite amazed.

While offering an air of familiarity, this server also delivers smoothly on unique features sure to draw the PLAYER into the adventures. PC backstory impacts game play, choice of race, class, skills, feats and more impact available options in game (example, dwarves get stonecunning which functions in-game).
BE THE LEADER - if you see this server empty - log in anyway, explore the tutorial Area, chances are you will find others login after you. Rare are the leaders, be bold, and discern for yourself what intriguing features await YOUR favorite build here. A PNP flair is found here, where your PC is able to do things without DM assistance being required to have in-game effect.
More than 1200 detailed Areas offer the adventurer a wealth of experience here, in a server meant for levels 1 through 40. Minimal Hak requirements CEP2.1 OR 2.2 OR 2.3 accepted here.
Hope to see you online - you simply won't believe the features until you see for yourself.
