ArgentumRegio - A very PnP DnD style world, WISH spell included.

I mean, the server's been up itself for years. Ehye's done a wonderful job of making sure that there is never a limit to what you can do here. There's a dozen plus DMs, making events somewhat plentiful. Experience isn't hard to get, it's not that hard to explore as it is in some places for new guys, and honestly the inventory isn't that difficult to decipher.
You've got your platinum, soul runes, armor and you're pretty much done, apart from the little RP-usage items on the front page. The game is severely awesome and epic in all porportions. Hope you play.

Mostly I would describe this as a Dm assisted world. That is it can run on it's own but is generally set up for a Dm to run groups. For instance I went into a cavern and got the message: The floor is covered with bat guano, oh perhaps half a dozen times, well I saw one bat, and remarked to myself well that is one proliflically s......ing bat to produce all this guano. I did meet a bear too. Of course with a Dm you could fill the area with bats. Not a big fan of the messages telling you the area is clear of PC's either, sort of breaks the immersion factor for me. Which is pretty good in many areas, telling you you're dirty, stinky, etc...
Second what is all this junk in my inventory, sorry for the word junk, but all sorts of stuff I never seem to use or need. Like loads of different types of currency. Bottom line I can barely pick up anything without it over loading me. You have to carry food and water too, which while annoying, at least to me is handled well and not too much of a hassle. I mean you don't have to constantly eat and drink to keep from exhaustion.
So just a few observations, rather than saying this world is great or horrible, I will only say that everyone's idea's differ as to what level of verisimilitude is desired, and how to achieve it. In that aspect AR is pretty effective. Not my cup of tea but something I can at least appreciate.
Hope all is well, and see you around.
On an amusing side note about the most fun I had there was when Dm Dragon something showed up as a satyr and we had some fun. He brought in some tough faries for me to fight, annoying little buggers, and then he kept trying to throw slow spells on me, saying how much faster he was. I did not have the heart to explain to him that I had freedom of movement and haste, so I just starting walking slow pretending the multiple slow spells he had thrown at me had finally worked. Maybe he just thought I had saved against them before, as he could not fathom why I was so much faster than he was, running rings around a woodland creature in the woods. Finally he took me to an area, where the night before, I had spent around 3 hours fully exploring the areas of that forest. I almost cried when he took me there, but instead just begged off and left. Still that was fun, as was the tour EK gave me once upon a time.
Cheers!

Just to clarify...
One of the items in your PC's inventory is the Personal Fund - it is your 'purse' so to speak. If you use it, one option is 'consolidate coins to my purse'. The system works as follows, when you pick up loot coin, they go in your inventory loose by default, this makes dividing the loot among party members at the end of an adventure much easier than otherwise - and allows you to consolidate your coins into your purse at any time you choose. The 'Personal Fund' also allows you to separate a specific amount of coins (you specify the value you want and the systems automatically dispense it as one pile of coins of the appropriate type and number). This latter function enables you to pay another PC once you arrive at a deal for example.ffbj wrote...

One of the 'side tutorials' that I did NOT go through with you when we met online was the banker/coinage tutorial, and I'm sure if we'd visited there in our travels you'd have had a better impression of the system. One of the items in your PC's inventory btw is "Krag's Notes" which is a text guide covering all aspects of all the tutorials - making it a good item to carry with you - wt is less than .2 lbs as I recall so negligable - and handy as it makes for a good portable refresher course on demand.
Be well. Game on.

I logged on the other night for the first time to give this server a try, but don't think I'll be returning. However I wanted to give some feedback so you could read it over in case you wanted to use it to improve the new player experience.
I was on a bit late, two other people on. Rolled up a druid and began to wander the 'starting' area, but was entirely overwhelmed. Not the 'this server has a lot to learn' way, but in a really bad way. Every time I took a step, there was another script system to learn, and while some of them were cool, there were simply so many that my head was spinning. One of the people online tried to help me (and I thank him for it) by rolling up a new character and running around with me, but he admitted that he felt just as lost as I did while the server scripts fired around us seemingly at random. Nothing worked intuitively and often we found ourselves stuck for some time before figuring out a system (by chance) that would help us explore further. I couldn't even dare imagine roleplaying in that sort of environment where all of my creativity has been sucked away by a draining learning process, and my partner for the evening said that was a pretty universal feeling. Talk about a bad first impression. =/
The second part was the server kept experiencing crippling lag for 4-10 seconds, and then bouncing back, about once a minute. It was shared by the other two on the server- this is a technical issue that I understand comes up, but I'd urge you to see what scripts might be causing it.
Third, was that I simply couldn't find anything to -do.- Even with all the systems in place, the world itself was quite boring and the building sub-par in some sections while much better in others. The sudden change in style between areas got confusing. I think I was just going all the wrong ways to understand the server.
My advice is to really try and look at your server through the eyes of a new player. It might surprise you. I ended up logging off with the other new to go seek other servers that weren't so overcrowded with systems.

While I appreciate feedback, it is most useful when it is specific. I found little specificity in your post so I'll ask a few questions of you here in hopes you can clarify your opininons.

I am confused here and you are unclear as you give no detail. Our 'systems' are detailed in the tutorial areas. There are three signs in the first area. I do not know what you mean by "
Every time I took a step, there was another script system to learn" in this context. Please elaborate, what systems were sprung upon you in the first area?

What system do you refer to here? Vagueness is unhelpful. While I value PLAYER opinions, you need to offer detail as without it there is nothing that can be improved thereby.

You have not specified that you visited the tutorial areas, aka Noob U. We post instructions that PCs are to visit this place to review the capabilities of their PC in several prominent places (in the entry area). The learning curve is best managed via the tutorial area and I recommend you and all new PLAYERS avail yourself of it. This is not a vanilla NWN server, it is built to be more like a D&D game (I'm a 30+ year D&Der myself). While there is no way to psychically impart the proper use of tools here, we have done our best to present a solid tutorial and given instructions on how to get there in the opening areas. Please do review the tutorial area to give yourself a chance to understand the systems used here.

My own computer hardware is failing me and I've been unable to login to my server to do maintenance on it for over a month and a half - I've finally gotten a work-around setup and hope to restart my server today sometime actually. The lag you speak of started developing about 30 days after the last reset.
Again, I need details, specifics, general statements like these do nothing to pinpoint issues. What sudden change in style? What areas did you find 'sub par' and for what reasons? Details are important.Reiannabeth wrote...

If you can offer some detail it would be helpful. Again, I strongly recommend running the tutorial areas.

The place is a confusing jumble of technicalities and OOC jargon. No creative person will ever play there. Never been on such a weird server. First, you have to go through an area called "00 Tutorial Area - 0", and my griefing buddy mentioned to me that it was a fitting name for the area. It was. Freakin' weird. I felt like I was exploring an autistic person's dream.
Anyway, we killed everyone on the server, by coaxing them to help show us around. My buddy then killed a load of NPCs and commented that there were far too many scripts everywhere.

Yes, I should almost thank you, you helped us find the one line error that kept you from being punted automagically. That has since been fixed.
Autistics? You like to insult autistics now? Please Mercel-girl, grow a pair or just grow up.
You also happened into the server at a time where it had not been restarted in a month due to local hardware issues on my internet system, lucky for you.
So do just run along and keep your drug-addled ravings to yourself.
Greifers - your tricks are useless here as of yesterday. So do be the children you are and run along before you get your ticket punched.
To the rest of the community, my apologies if the server has been wonky - my very limited income and a hardware issue resulted in the server being on its own for a while. If you visited while it was not at its best, do come back and see how it really is when running proper.
Be well. Game on.

I really think you should consider moving the server to Tech Support or Alternative, because it would fit better then. To offer a further analogy: You know if I went to IKEA or something, and got a do-it-yourself coffee table with an instruction manual. ArgentumRegio feels a bit like what would happen if you tried to make that technical manual into an NWN server.
You can discern all that from merely having ArgentumRegio stuffed up your posterior oriface? You really are a butthole of exceptional discernment.
Mercel-girl, get a life or get your come-uppance, it matters not which you choose, but know the choice is yours.

There was absolutely NO hostility toward you, only honest questions and request for elaboration.
The only hostility here in this thread is toward the Greifers - if you don't know who they are or what they are doing you should educate yourself about how this miscreants get their fun (HINT - they use cheat gear/methods and kill PCs).
The server, like many, has empty moments, but also rather more populated times too (most often when our DMs are running events - see our forum for posted games with openings if you are interested in these).

I passed on to you the same advice I was given when I (naively) had multiple threads running in a sinble board. You also failed to notice how that other thread was left to languish so we would have only ONE. You also failed to note that I cannot delete the tread.
At least you are consistent in ignoring the obvious. If you don't like users mentioning the rules to you, perhaps you should read them; they are posted here on the forum.

If you love RP, ask any of our DMs for an Immersion Tool (Tome of Self) - you won't believe it until you have tried it. RP-enhanced NWN like never before.
NEW PLAYERS joining everyday. PCs can start at level 1 through 4, PLAYER choice - no DM needed (collect up to four free levels in the Tutorial areas aka "Noob U.").
We hope to see you online.
