Alright people.

Just a quick one, Im just sat here thinking, would I want ME3 to be the end of the ME games? So I thought I would open it up and ask all the other fans as well.

Do you want ME3 to be the end of it all, or would you want it to be more like ME2 almost like a side quest before the reapers come and kick the collective ass that is our galaxy? (and if they do Im sure the Council will still say they are geth lol)Image IPB

Of course I don't want it to be the end. I never want it to be the end. I want unlimited content and for the game to respond to my thoughts.

lol. ok Im not sure thats going to happen but still. Yeah DLC is great, but Im more on about ME3 being the end. Im sure as Mass Effect is so big Bioware will end up doing somthing else with it, but it wont be the same game as we all know now. Would you want more games set with Shep and the nomandy or to end it and have somthing new?

Think of it how Halo 3 was the end for Master Chief (kinda), but yet there's ODST and Reach, same thing here.

The Mass Effect universe will live on.

Well the problem for me would be that Shepard has affected the Mass Effect universe so hugely that we won't be able to play as another character without hearing about Shepard all the time, which may make my new character feel a bit overshadowed.

Shepards story should end with the end of the Reaper threat. But there is no reason the whole franchise has to end with it. The Mass Effect Universe is much to rich and deep to be abandoned. And i guess now that Bioware has finally found two universes that are entierely their own, they won't let go. They can do whatever they want, and there are many possibilities. The Mass Effect universe has a history of several millenia, much room for stories.

There's enough time between the first contact war and the whole reaper issue.

Bioware, or EA, said that the Mass Effect series will continue for a long time after ME3. Shepard's story, however will not. And we don't even know if we will kick the Reaper *** for good in ME3. I can see the story going something stupid, like even not ending the reaper invasion and Shepard dies.

So you're saying the future games would all need to take place before Shepard hits the scene, then.

Shepard sort of is the epic hero. Playing any other character would probably be a step down. It doesn't get much more epic than saving all sentient life in the galaxy.

I think the greater problem would be that there wouldn't be any way that you would be able to get a consensus over what would be the best race from the ME universe that players would love to play as if Bioware were to change it, obviously as a human i.e. Shepard players can see and identify with the problems and challenges of getting humanity "accepted" in the galactic community i.e. ME1 and then proving their worth in ME2. In ME3 however, I think that these two stigmas of an increased human involvement in galactic affairs would come good in a sense to fight a "real" threat but the problem there is Shepard's new association with Cerberus and how he/other main characters e.g. Anderson deal with that.

Back on topic, what I would like to see as a future direction for the series as a possible starting point would be Bioware following the same idea as Bungie and allowing players to experience the backstory to the period of time that passes throughout the ME trilogy, Mass Effect First Contact maybe?

I would prefer to see the end of ME3 with Shepard surviving and destroying the Reaper threat once and for all and then leave Shepard at least for a few games. Personally I want BioWare to create a game based on the First Contact War. They could make it so you can play for both species, not at the same time but as different campaigns. Of course it could be hard to turn it into an RPG as the story is already complete but I am sure BioWare would add RPG elements and great story into the mix.

Another preference would be to play as an Assassin, perhaps playing as Thane during his peak. I think that would add a different view to the ME universe, however it may be quite a restrictive game due to Thane basically sniping everyone. Just my thoughts.

I personally believe the consequences in ME3 should be as big as the Reapers destroying all life in the Galaxy, to being the ultimate hero who saved the galaxy. That would certainly be an interesting round up to the series lol.

As for the ME series ending at ME3, that would suck. Im not sure what i'd like to see in future ME products, playing on as Shepard would be cool as he is a total badass, but after a while it will end up feeling abit...draged on and not so interesting anymore if we were to continue playing as Shepard.

The one problem, but also amazing thing about Shepard is that he is the Ultimate Hero, there is only pure awesomeness especially if you play as a Paragon he basically has no flaws accept for being too nice or too much of a ass. lol This however causes a problem future ME games as most people will remember Shepard and think to themselves that your character is no where near as insane.

I'd like to see a game set after ME3, portraying Shepard in a less glorious role... Say, humanity's quick rise to power, only emboldened by Shepard's saving the galaxy three times, has ended up tossing, say, the Turians off of their seat as a Council race. The new human councilor in their place ends up corrupted, and you play as some prominent Turian (maybe a former Spectre?) to try to bring down the evil human leader and bring Turians back to their rightful glory.

Shepard would be a symbol of humanity's power grab, but you'd see all the little things that make him/her into an anti-hero of sorts - for instance, Renegade Shepard committed genocide on an entire race (the Rachni,) while Paragon Shepard let a race that almost wiped out the rest of the galaxy go free to repopulate.

Bioware can go anyway they want with the ME universe. Most likely, ME3 will end the Shep era. Maybe the end result of ME3, Shep just cause the Reapers a set back. Reapers are persistent. They kept at the Protheans for 3 centuries before finally wiping them out. So no matter what Shep does in ME3, the Reapers will keep coming, until their goal is reached.

After ME3, maybe Shep is too injured to take the fight to the Reapers and takes on a role in the Council, much like Anderson has. We take on a new character, and Shep becomes an NPC. Bioware could go that route or do some sort of prequel with the first contact war. I am hoping for a continuation, hate prequels, lol

I think the idea of the Contact wars is a great one. As for my idea of playing as an alien race, how about the idea of you chooseing what race you are.

I was also thinking about the idea of going back to when Shep started out in the Alliance. Even if they do another game without shep in it as the main Charactor I think he should be around somewhere lol

I really do think, that by the end of ME3 the Reaper plot should be resolved. I for myself would not want to deal with the Reapers for yet one more game. I would even feel insulted, if there was no resolution to the Reaper threat, as it would most likely take away any feeling of accomplishment from Shepards endeavors. Let the Shepard/Reaper story end and go on with a fresh plot in the ME universe. There is some space in the time of the first contact war, and there is even more space in the distant future, when all of Shepards story is mere legend.
