Has it actually even been confirmed that it is a case of EA/BioWare not wanting to sell the game on Steam?
Unless I missed something, I didn't see them say "actually, we just don't want to sell it on Steam".

And if not, why does everyone automatically assume that it is EA/BioWare causing the problem, and not Steam?

I only assume the problem is on EA's side because everyone seems to be saying it, which I probably shouldn't assume. Truthfully I don't know, but if EA is the publisher, it seems to me like they'd be the ones saying no. I honestly have no idea how this whole structure works. I don't see what would be so different about offering downloads through Steam rather than offering it for download from all the other places offering digital copies. So I guess I feel like somebody is saying no. If Steamworks gets a cut, I don't see why they would say no to selling DA2. Maybe there's some other issue. I think the biggest problem is that nobody seems to be offering any official word on the whole thing. That would be nice.

This is a massive mistake for both EA and Bioware, they are about to see sales of the PC version flop badly, because outside of the "fans" on this forum I can't see many PC gamers buying it if it isn't on steam.

My guess is that they are calculating that they'll make more by holding back the "free" version of the DLC from the largest digital retailer because PC gamers who don't loiter around BSN will never know that such a thing was offered.  I bet the regular game goes up on Steam shortly after this offer ends.  You'll get a bunch of people pre-ordering just because they see it on Steam, and they'll end up paying the extra $7 on top of full price.

EA has been having some problems with Steam, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit wasn't slated to come on Steam at all at first (Criterion members saying it), and it did appear a month after the release.

Now that I think of it, Sims 3 isn't on Steam at all, while it is on Gamersgate and Impulse.. The Saboteur isn't on Steam either, while it is on other DD platforms.

Maybe EA is offering it to the smaller digital retailers because they know they can give them a smaller cut, while still helping them sell games to compete with the monster that is Steam. :/ Maybe Steam wants more than EA is willing to give.

Either way I still blame EA. XD I can't help it.

As we have said, the Signature Edition will not be available on Steam.

We do not yet have any word whether or not the standard edition of Dragon Age II will or will not be available on Steam. Until we do, this topic is closed. You are welcome to discuss the pros and cons of Steam as a service in the off topic forum.
