For all that is good, please let it show up on steam before this special is over.

Sorry, as I have said, the special deal of pre-ordering Dragon Age II and getting the upgrade to the Signature Edition WILL NOT happen on Steam. We do not yet have any further word on whether or not the standard edition will or will not appear. When we know, we will let you know.

So with the announcement that the extra content will be DLC, I think we have our answer for WHY it won't be on Steam.

Steam is the biggest marketshare on the PC. By not putting the SE on Steam, they're hoping to blindside anyone who doesn't stay "In the know".

So random dude A has no idea about the SE. He has no idea that it won't be on Steam, or that it includes free versions of DLC. So he logs on Steam one day and gets the pop up "DA2 now available.", and buys it. Then when it comes out, he has to pay for the DLC.

When you figure the majority of people are oblivious to stuff like this, Bioware/EA are going to make bank off Steam users who are forced to buy the DLC.

It's a real kick in the nuts. Like, a bigger kick in the nuts then not having DA2 on Steam at all. Glad to see EA's pulling the ropes (notice I say ropes, instead of strings) on you Bioware. I'm curious how you sleep at night.

Thank-you for the update. At least those inclined to not use Steam know that they need to do so now. Too bad; I really love Steam. I was so looking forward to DA2 in the spring . . . :(

The suits are acting like DA 2 is literally the only game in town. Bad news, guys. You are not, never were, and never will be the only game in town!! I have plenty of good games to play that I already own. There are going to be more than a few worthwhile new game releases that more or less coincide with Dragon Age 2. I don’t lose anything by waiting few months.

The risk the suits are taking is that I may not get around to buying DA 2 until the super-saver "Ultimate" edition ships on Steam. This also makes it too easy for the less enthusiastic DA 2 Steam user to completely pass the game by. The mind boggles . . .

The money they'll make ripping off the ignorant Steam users will greatly outweigh any potential loss. At least in the short term, in the long term they'll lose plenty of fans and potential customers, but the video game industry is notorious for not seeing the long term. Give it 5-10 year and if this keeps up EA will be back in the dog house and Bioware will be right next to them.

I'm confused. They haven't said that the regular version won't be on Steam, have they? So, why all the drama? You either wait and see and download the regular or buy the hard copy.

You can still buy the DLC separately if you get the regular version IF it came available on Steam though right? Is all the outrage because it won't be available as SE as of now on STeam? Or is it that you can't get the DLC with the regular Steam version if that comes avail?

*confused now*

EDIT: the reason I am confused is that I am fairly certain I bought DLC through the Bioware store before, and I had the regular DA:O version, before I recently got the Ultimate as it was cheaper even though I had several DLC already....

My outrage is that they're going to force Steam users to pay extra for the DLC that early adopters get. Again, yes the SE is available eslewhere, but what about the thousands who don't read gaming blogs or these forums, who don't even know the SE exists, but are still rabid gaming fans who will preorder from Steam the moment their aware of it.

It's underhanded, it's unethical, and it's just plain wrong. I'm not advocating for myself, I'm not advocating for people who read these forums, I'm advocating for John Doe.

There is a promotion going on.  Buy the pre-order in the next few days, and you get a free upgrade (including free DLC) to the SE.  This is true as long as you are NOT a Steam user.  And, yes.  As I pointed out, you can always wait on Ultimate . . . but I doubt that anyone at BioWare really wants you to wait for Ultimate.

Then just don't buy it off Steam... It's not like you have to get every single game through them, and it's not cheaper than anywhere else, so ?

note : I am a Steam User. And I post on SPUF more than here.

And what of people who aren't aware of the SE?

I'm a Steam user (and bought 17 games from it over the Holiday period - should keep me going for the next five years or so...), yet I honestly could care less that it is not available on Steam. That and it's actually cheaper to buy it retail than digitally here anyway.

I really don't see what the big deal is (unless of course that you live in an area/country where it will not be available via other means, in which case I really am sorry for you).

If you're a "but I get all my games from Steam person" (and the above does not apply) then it's your own stubbornness causing you the problem. EA/BioWare obviously made their decision, and I'm sure they made it for a reason (if it is the right one or not, may be debatable). That's just the way it is.

For all we know, it may be Steam causing problems rather than EA/BioWare.

Just something to consider.

Steam's "problem" is offering a better service than any of the other digital distribution sites. I wonder if this legally counts as collusion, as all of the subpar vendors are selling it.

The promotional offer is available for pre-order on Impluse, Stardock Software’s Digital Download Store. http://www.impulsedriven.com/ If you want to go non-physical media, jump on it this weekend!

I prefer the convenience of Steam and its on-line saved games. I waste zero time getting games installed on all the systems that I use - this is huge. For my purposes, there is no better way to get and manage my game collection - and there are many far worse options - particularly those involving physical media. I don't mind paying a modest premium for games on Steam, but a free SE deal that excludes Steam users is taking things too far.

And,yes. I know the on-line saved game feature isn't supported by all games . . .

some folks over on steam forums have found this http://i.imgur.com/7yZgc.png (by opening the steam's registryblob)

not sure why it says "signature edition" though. But the game will BE available on steam so no need to worry or panic.

That could just mean that it was intended to be on steam, but then somebody changed their mind.

Oh, and I apologize to anyone I was ****y to regarding this topic.

This is sad, though in the end it becomes a very simple decision. Buying PC games on discs is not something I am likely to do again, that ship has sailed at this point. And splitting your DD purchases over multiple platforms kinda ruins the whole benefit of having all your games available in the same place forever. Having my game collection in different places on different services is absolutely a no-go. So that simply means no SE for me.

Undoubtedly DA2 will appear on Steam shortly, but without SE, however only a complete sap would pay full price for this. The inevitable conclusion is thus to wait for the Deluxe edition somewhere down the line, maybe even on a Steam sale. It's the only decision that makes sense, sad though it may be.

Such a shame. As weary as I am of this game, after Sebastian was revealed I was ready to put up a few bucks for a pre-order. However, for me, Bioware games are PC games and I buy my PC games through Steam. No Steam, no sale (or in this case, early adoption pre-order). <_<

Here's to hoping it'll at least be available standard, though there's no way in hell I'm buying Day 1 DLC so either way, poor C-bass's revenge will have to wait. :(

Just keeping this on the relevant page:

For new comers, it's been confirmed SE won't be on Steam, and some of us have been emailing this guy notifying him of our discontent. I encourage you all to join in, and if you do to please remain civil and professional. Don't be rash or rude, that's not how you make your voices heard.

Reposting this.

Edit: Removing Andrew's name. Andrew is on our PR team, but he does not deal with fans. That is my job. Emails or calls to Andrew will be ignored.

You can get the Signature Edition right now on Impulse for $49.95, which is $10 cheaper than I have seen it anywhere else. I've never used Impulse, so can anyone here tell me if it is a good service comparable to Steam?

The Signature Edition is also available for $59.95 on Direct2Drive.com. I purchased the Mac Version of Dragon Age:Origins there, and so far I have had a great experience. I downloaded the game twice with no hassles at all, and the game was automatically updated to the latest patch with no problems. So in my experience Direct2Drive has been just as good as Steam.

Impulse is decent. It doesn't need to be running in order to play games from it.  It's reliable as a downloading source as well.  The Impulse program is a bit weird to navigate through sometimes (especially if you are used to Steam) but isn't bad either.
