You can get the Signature Edition right now on Impulse for $49.95, which is $10 cheaper than I have seen it anywhere else. I've never used Impulse, so can anyone here tell me if it is a good service comparable to Steam?

The Signature Edition is also available for $59.95 on Direct2Drive.com. I purchased the Mac Version of Dragon Age:Origins there, and so far I have had a great experience. I downloaded the game twice with no hassles at all, and the game was automatically updated to the latest patch with no problems. So in my experience Direct2Drive has been just as good as Steam.

Honestly, the people pushing this subject (myself included) don't really care about any other digital retailers.

It's the simple fact that we perfer Steam and are perterbed by the SE's absence from it. As pointed out by Chris  Priestly, there's not even any confirmation that the standard edition is going up on Steam.

What? Then who does he deal with if his contact info is publicly available here? Can you honestly censor public information? He's an EA PR - press release, public representative, public relations so it's definitely his job. Why does he have that job if he doesn't want to do it? Are they giving out free money at EA?

And we already know you can't help us, unless you want to send him an email, but then we wouldn't be getting the truth.

I bought a ton of games on Steam during their last 2 mega-sales, so I understand where you are coming from. I wish that Steam always had the best price on the games that I want to buy. But honestly, I think that if one allows oneself to get worked up about a certain pre-order of a special edition of a game not being available on one particular download service, then one is in fact robbing oneself of a lot of happiness and peace of mind. Be happy and thankful that we have all of these cool new games to play, and that we all have the time and money and opportunity to enjoy them. It's just not worth it to be unhappy over something as inconsequential as no Dragon Age 2 Signature Edition on Steam!

And I mean no disrespect to anyone who is expressing their criticisms and opinions on these forums. I get worked up over things as equally trivial as this all the time.

Yes I'm quite miffed at this. This is a blatant attempt to funnel all the complaints away from EA and to Bioware, who have shown us that they refuse to treat us like adults for this matter. I'm going to CC my email that I sent to Wong to Cindy Lum as she's the senior publicist, and I suggest you do the same.

The great thing about Impulse is that you can buy the game and download it and then you can uninstall Impulse and forget it even exists if you want to and your game will play just fine. Unlike Steam.

I personally will never buy a game the *requires* Steamworks for a single player game, that is just plain dumb. If a game company wants to use Steamworks for multiplayer fine, but for single player...not going to happen. I still haven't bought Fallout New Vegas or even Civ 5 because it requires Steam. And more and more games are going Steam exclusive which is bad for everyone competition wise. I think EA/Bioware is simply giving Valve a warning shot here that becoming a monopoly is not acceptable. :)

Steam has done nothing to deserve worry, and for that matter, they aren't a monopoly. Steamworks isn't either. You can buy Fallout NV and Civ 5 at many other stores, including your local Gamestop. If those games, and most, were only available on Steam then that would be a monopoly.

Trust me better Valve than EA have a monopoly in anything. EA is a publicly traded company with heads at the top that have money on their mind. They're just ticked off that they're so behind in the digital market that they're trying to curb Valve's progress.

I don't much care to split up my digital purchases, though. Steam has proven to be incredibly reliable and incredibly convinient and I trust them. If the SE edition isn't on Steam, then I suppose I won't be getting the SE. <_<

I'm leaning the same way as Erode. if not via Steam, where all my other recent purchases have been, I guess I'll just have to wait until well after it's release for a Steam package like a GOTY with all DLC type release next year. Then again, by next year, I'll likely not have time for DA2 because of SWTOR, so EA, you have likely lost my $$ this time around.

If you're buying digitally, you can't rely on just one provider. I've used four/five of the bigger ones (GamersGate UK, Direct2Drive UK, Gog, Impulse and Steam) and they all have their good and bad points.

Just because it's not on Steam, it doesn't mean you should kick up a fuss and go "OMG I R NOT BUY THIS". EA might have plans for the Steam edition, or they might be having problems with Steam (As has been suggested a few times, but it's very contradictory when you look at what's available and their participation in sales and so forth), or they might have just decided that a title of this magnitude might - for some reason relating to the state of the industry, perhaps - have decided to give Steam the short straw this time.

There's plenty of other stores selling it, all of which have their benefits over Steam. Direct2Drive has been around for years and is reliable, GamersGate is newer but is amazing, Impulse is like a poor man's Steam but has the benefit of not needing to be running to allow you to run your game, or you can go for the classic (And often cheaper) retail edition.

If you want DA2, then get it. At the end of the day, it doesn't sodding matter where you get it from.

That Dragon Age Ultimate Edition for $24.95 sale on Steam last week was a heck of a deal.

If every component of the Ultimate Edition had been purchased when it was originally released, then you would have payed something like $50 for the game plus $40 for Awakening plus around $5 for each of the 7 DLCs? That's around $125, give or take.

So if you have the self-discipline to wait for the Dragon Age 2 Ultimate Edition whenever it comes out, you can probably save a similar amount.

Since when is retail cheaper? Maybe on your side of the pond...

I love steam/valve as well. I have been using their service since 2005 with no problems! And hats off to valve for supporting so many indie games. Many indie developers found a job because of Steam. Plus they have been giving free tf2 updates for 4 years and lets not forget the amazing sales. Valve earned my respect and love by their actions.

I will only buy DA2 from Steam and i don't mind getting the standard edition as long they put the game on Steam.

So I've come to the conclusion that either:

We get DA2 SE on Steam, or I'm buying Rift. I guess I should thank Bioware for making my choice so easy at this point.

In the UK retail games (Especially ones bought online for delivery) cost a good £5 less than digital ones, and that's ignoring sales and offers.

You don't have to look hard to find cheaper games in the UK.

With Steam, it is likely to go on sale sooner than other places, so you might end up ahead by waiting.  After all, $60 is top dollar for a PC game, even with goodies.  The PC price going up to $60 in October was a real slap.

Sorry, as I have said, the special deal of pre-ordering Dragon Age II and getting the upgrade to the Signature Edition WILL NOT happen on Steam. We do not yet have any further word on whether or not the standard edition will or will not appear. When we know, we will let you know.

Ok, thanks for the update and letting us know that you'll let us know when you know . . . :P

I did, Those are really the only 2 choices left. Unless direct2drive is doing it.Steam isnt doing the signature editon. So why not go to a different source. No need to make things difficult for yourself.

Because I'm not going to support a company that treats it's users this way. And if I do, I'm sure as hell not paying full price for one of their games.

Priestly:
Refuses to tell us why it won't be on Steam
Continues to give vague answers like "When we have more info"
And has no attempted to censor our attempts to go over his head
He's also not answered my PM as to who we should contact, if not Mr. Wong, above him.

Bioware/EA is:
Charging for Day 1 DLC for anyone who doesn't pre order it 3 months ahead of release
Charging $60 for a PC game, when the well accepted price is $50 for new PC games, excluding Limited Editions
Refusing to sell the game on Steam, the largest and most reliable and trustworthy store for PC gaming.

Among my other problems with their design decisions in Dragon Age 2, this is just the latest, excuse the phrase, slap in the face to PC gamers. I still have faith in Bioware, and I don't blame them for these decisions, as they are most likely out of their control. That doesn't make it any better.

I prefer Steam. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wizard.png[/smilie]

If DA2 becomes a "must have" and still manages to stay off Steam, I'll happily scamper off to a brick-and-mortar retailer. However, my preferences being what they are, I'm willing to bid Sebastian farewell (or bribe my friend pre-ordering from Gamestop for his code) and hold off in the hopes that the standard edition will find a place with my distributor of choice, rather than running off to pre-order elsewhere.

I'm sure other online retailers are fine and dandy (as are actual stores), and there's absolultely nothing wrong with going to them but, as I said before: I like Steam, I trust Steam, I prefer Steam and if the Signature Edition is not coming to Steam then I'll just have to deal.
