I did, Those are really the only 2 choices left. Unless direct2drive is doing it.Steam isnt doing the signature editon. So why not go to a different source. No need to make things difficult for yourself.

Because for some of us living outside NA, Steam is the ONLY option for us.  The EA webstore here doesn't even have DA2 up for pre-order.

I just pre-ordered The Witcher 2 instead. :D

After many days of deliberation, I've decided I'll pre-order a disc copy of the SE from ozgameshop.com. I'm posting my reasoning for pre-ordering the disc copy in case it can help the decision-making process of anyone else still on the fence:

Pros:
  • DA2 may not come to Steam at all, and waiting to find out may mean I end up having to buy a non-Steam version anyway, but by then it would be too late to get the free SE content.
  • In the early days of DA2's retail life, if not longer, ozgameshop.com's price will probably be cheaper than Steam's price.
  • Despite most likely paying less for the disc than I would for an early Steam version, I'll get more content included in the price.
  • Even if I waited for a Steam version, I'd probably end up buying the bonus character DLC ASAP anyway.
  • Even if the core game comes to Steam, some of the SE content probably won't be available on Steam at all.
  • Because almost all of my other games are from Steam, I don't have many game discs to deal with, so I can just leave the DA2 disc in the drive.
  • Exansions shouldn't be a problem: if there is a DA2 Awakening equivalent, it's likely that I can use the Awakening-equivalent disc for the core game too, instead of fumbling with the SE disc and Awakening-equivalent disc whenever I want to go back to the core game.
  • I won't have to download the game and wait for updates to finish before I can play it.
  • The disc will be sent to my house.
  • I assume that ozgameshop.com is smaller than Steam, so they could use my money more. They've got some excellent cheap prices (Ultimate Edition for 27.99 AUD, NOT on sale!?) and should be rewarded for that.
Cons:
  • I have to use a disc.
  • If there are expansions available on Steam, I won't be able to use them.
  • I'll have to update patches myself (I love having things up-to-date, so I love Steam's auto patch feature.)
  • I'm making EA's decision to exclude Steam from being part of the SE a slightly more successful decision.
I think the pros outweigh the cons. Steam will still be my first preference for buying games, but in this case, it just doesn't benefit me enough buy this game from them, if I even can buy it from them. I guess this is exactly what EA wanted, and I feel bad for letting their tactics work on me, but I'm not going to hurt myself just to spite them.

Besides, Steam is a very successful businesses and won't be hurt by EA's choice to exclude them from the SE. If I end up really loving the game and feel a need to have it on Steam, I can always buy a Steam Ultimate Edition on sale, if it's released.

Edit: reorganised and added to pros and cons.

I removed Andrew's name and contact info because he is not the correct person to address this issue to and you should not have been instructed to contact him on this issue. Neither is Cindy Lum.

If you wish to contact EA to complain about the lack of teh Signature Edition on Steam, you can contact EA Customer Service. That is the department set up to deal with issues like this. The top 2 links under Help at the bottom of each page will help you contact Customer Service.

*Shrug* I'm done with this. If Steam doesn't get the Signature (or "Digital Deluxe" version if you want to change the name) on Steam for the exact same price as in the deal, I'm not purchasing. Same for ME3.

I don't see how waiting a few months is hurting you, and at least you recognize that you are allowing them to pwn you.  I wouldn't feel any comfort in such an admission, but if you do . . . well . . . ok.  You seem to know that you are sort of sticking it to yourself, but that is certainly your right.

I won't buy DA 2 on pre-order - if things stay as they are - not out of spite, but out of principle.  That is an important distinction, and it just happens to be a reasonable bet.  BioWare/EA probably won't ignore Steam forever.  Eventually, I will be able to get the game from Steam, and at a price that I think is fair.  It may be months from now, but will the game be any worse for the wait?  Not if it really is a good game!

I went with Rift and the Witcher 2.  I am more of a Mass Effect fan but usually like to support devs like BioWare.  Unless they play these games like they did with the SE edition not being on Steam.

Edit: I see you can get the "extra character" for $7 bucks.  The "special" SE edition is $60 pretty much everywhere for PC.  So when the regular edition comes out on Steam for 50 bucks or for the patient ones 40 bucks, you pretty much get the same deal save a few armor items.

Well, I've already gone that route.

My Customer Support question:

Why is Dragon Age 2 Signature Edition not available through Steam?

I am fully aware that this is not related to Dragon Age: Origins. However, Dragon Age 2 is not a selectable product and this is the only game that somewhat relates to my question. The fact that the Signature Edition, which from my understanding is the Collector's Edition, for Dragon Age 2 is not on Steam is very troubling to me. I find that it (Steam) is my preferred way in which to purchase games. Multiple other digital distribution retailers offer the Signature Edition, yet Steam is excluded. I would likely have already purchased the Signature Edition through Steam if it had been available. Instead, I miss out on the same bonus offer that others will enjoy.

EA Customer Support response:

Hello,

Thank you for writing to Electronic Arts customer support.

Unfortunately, EA Customer Support does not have detailed information on game development and releases, as well as the consoles that they are to be released for. Information such as this is in the hands of the game's
developers. If you wish to provide suggestions or feedback, I would recommend using our online forums at http://forums.ea.com which is regularly reviewed by our developers.

I would also recommend visiting our news site at http://info.ea.com/, which collects news and related media on upcoming releases as they are made available.

If there is anything else we may do to assist you please let us know.

So I guess this system is set up to get us to chase our tails... A little more help with this issue is needed.

Also, there is no Dragon Age 2 game title to submit to Customer Support yet. I had to go through DA:O

I am going to wait a year for the complete game+DLC package to come out on Steam. Since Steam has cut out of the pre-order bonus loop and the game and the DLC will not be sold through Steam (I refuse to buy Bioware's carnival money) I'll keep my money until it's cheap and complete on the platform I prefer.

That's exactly what I did I went to Customer Service and they suggested I contact the PR for the title since they were in no position to address my concerns. With their response I was provided with contact details.

So far we've been taken around the block, hushed, and had our emails and concerns to the PR ignored. Deja vu I'm reminded once again why I love to stick with Steam. And people are wondering why we're skeptical buying elsewhere? Well there you have it folks!

no you don't dimwit. IF you are really obsessed with the features of digital distribution you can choose to redeem the serial code on EA's store which will then conform to the digital platform (EADM) without any extra cost which does feature auto patching.

Come on BioWare, don't let EA screw us over like this. I'd love to purchase the Signature Edition, but only if it's on Steam.

I'll consider downloading from EA's download service when they can manage to make it half-competent.

Isn't it obvious?  They don't want your email.  They don't want anyone's email if it is about something like this.  If you prefer Steam, the BioWare/EA suits don't want to know about it.  Steam support is not their problem; it is our problem.  After all, what right do we have to shop at a store of our choosing?  It is a priviledge to buy their game; we should be thankful they deign to sell to mere peasants.  ;)

Seriously, dude.  They just don't care.  We are wasting our breathe.

I am quoting this so people might pay attention to it.

Seriously, Steam was deemed not profitable by EA/Bio, and thus is not being used. Fullstop. Stop asking corporations to lose potential money.

[edit] if you feel THAT strongly about it, don't buy the game. Speak with your wallet, it's the only way to get the corporate type's attention.

How would they lose "potential money" by using Steam? I mean I'm not buying the game at all now* that it's not on Steam (won't use another DD service, and am really not interested in getting yet another useless retail box in my shelf).

(* I will most probably get it eventually, but it sure as hell it won't be anywhere near a full price which I would have been willing to pay now on Steam)

e: On further research, I can't even use another DD service. Impulse is locked out, Gamersgate is locked out, regionwise. This leaves only D2D, where I don't have any games at all, thus won't get on that boat, and EA store, which is so laughably bad that no thanks. The only option is to get a retail copy.

Thing is, way back before anyone even had any doubts that Steam users would be short-changed, I was tossing up whether to get it from Steam or from ozgameshop.com. I love buying from Steam, but Australian Steam customers are often made to pay a premium compared to other countries, so I prefer to buy during sale time. That is, unless I've really been looking forward to a game, like DA2, in which case I'd pay more to pre-order to get bonus content and play earlier. But because ozgameshop.com is offering it for much cheaper than I believe it will be on the Australian Steam store (at least for a while), I was considering making an exception to my usual Steam preference.

Then we found out Steam won't be able to offer pre-order bonuses. Well, this made ozgameshop.com's offer even more attractive. I didn't like EA's decision, and I understand wanting to boycott the game until it's on Steam, but I don't feel like I need it on Steam enough to deny myself the pleasure of a game I've been anticipating for a long time.

I just want to do what I feel will make me happiest, and that is playing DA2 as soon as possible. If I really didn't want the game from any source other than Steam, I would wait for it to come to Steam. But since I was leaning towards getting it from elsewhere before this Steam fiasco anyway, I think I'll go that route.

I mean, say if EA made the DA2 SE a Steam or PC exclusive, somehow I don't think Steam fans or PC players would boycott the game, on principle, until it comes to consoles. Having said that, I understand and sympathise with those who want to wait and see if it comes to Steam. I was considering doing that myself, but after more consideration, I realised it wouldn't benefit me enough, if at all.

So, to clarify, we can play the disc version of the game without requiring a disc check each time we play? And we can choose to have the game auto patch? Do you have a link, please? This is news to me, perhaps because I haven't played a disc version of a game in a long time. I have asked on these forums if it's possible to do this, but I don't recall receiving an answer.

Thanks in advance for helping to make my wit a little less dim.

I did too.  Well, I purchased The Witcher 2 as I'm not a fan of mmos.  I was going to wait on TW2 but seeing as how I don't need to set aside any money for DA2: SE...  As said before, I'll get a hearty chuckle if a "Digital Deluxe" Steam version comes out with all the same dlc.  Definitely not getting strong armed into buying a new character dlc.

Please oh please I hope they don't pull this same crap with Mass Effect 3. Knowing EA and how much corporations like to shoot themselves in the foot, I think that fear will become a reality.

I hope Chris Priestly is able to convey to his colleagues the position of members of the community who purchase games exclusively through Steam.

I hope the marketing people DO understand that for majority of those who use steam, buying discs is an inconvenience.

If Jay Blincoe is asleep, he does need some COLD water to wake him up. This has gone on too long already...

Maybe it's because a press release, is for, you know - the press? Not the general public.

Generally you'll find people dealing with press releases generally liaise with the media, rather than the public - even if they are listed as PR. Odd, I know - but that's just the way it is, especially with big faceless corporate entities like EA.

Supposedly EADM allows for auto-patching. Yet I have always had to manually patch any games I got via EADM... even it purchased months or even years after release. So if it supposedly has this feature, it's obviously not up to date - certainly not like Steam at any rate. (And just incase you think I am a massive supporter of this thread, yes I use Steam, but I am not fussed about it not being on Steam - I bought a retail copy). EADM works, but is by no means an impressive platform.
