Hey everyone! I finsihed my first playthrough a long time ago and am going to be satrting my second one very soon. I wanted to get a gist of what everyone's favorite companions were as a group because i feel that is almost as important as to what type of character i want to be as the playing style of my Warden.
My first playthrough i used Alistair, Morrigan, and Shale and has a blast with them. Especially the fighting between Alistair and Morrigan. Shale has a lot of good moments as well.
Who have you played with and how did they interact to make your game experience better?
Your Favorite Companions!

You have previously used most of the more talkative and interesting characters. Leliana, Zevran and Wynne are closed to Alistair and Morrigan in terms of talkativeness, but of those I only find Zevran to be interesting. Unfortunately, most of the other companions have witty dialogue WITH Alistair or Morrigan, they do not say as much to each other. If you want to avoid the same characters again, then I would suggest Oghren, Zevran and Wynne. That is probably the best combination of what is left.
Or you can switch the characters around a lot, which is what I do.

I always use Alistair and Zevran, they are my favorites and if you play on PC ejoslins ZDF dialogue fix it restores some missing (and funny) party banters. Other than those two Sten/Shale or Morrigan come along.

Leliana and Wynne if I am melee.
If I am a mage, Alistair and Leliana.
Leliana for rogue skills, Alistair for tanking and Wynne for healing.
Granted you can make Morrigan a healer too, but it annoys me how she loses approval whenever I do the right thing. How dare I help a bunch of peasants!

I recently started playing DA O + A again after quitting about a year ago and decided to roll a DW Rogue (Noble Human).
My current party is:
- Shale (tank)
- Morrigan (DPS & CC)
- Wynne (healer ofc)
It's going pretty well and I enjoy the company (although Morrigan's approval rate drops regularly when I decide to help someone).

My favorite companion for purposes of party banter is, without a doubt, Zevran.

Golem,Leliana, a mage mostly morrigan, and one interchangable by default Alistair

Hmm for the most part I use Alistair, Zevran and morrigan which the banter between them is just hilarious. Throw oghren into the mix and you get a crude, brash, drunk dwarf that leaves you shaking your head. Especially if you are in a romance with another companion.
)
I will add my dog to this list as I have the extra dog slot mod for the PC version. On small adventures I will switch out Sten, Shale, Lel and Oghren. Depends on the type of battles and fighting I will do really determines who I take with me.
For xbox console definately Alistair, morrigan and zevran most of the time.

I am currently replaying the game myself. I'm making a conscious effort to avoid my usual party line up of Leliana, Morrigan, Alistair/Shale.
This time around I'm sticking with Sten and Zevran since I've rarely spent much time with either of them in prior games. I also made an effort to hear all of Oghren's lines in a previous new game.
For the longest time I've hated Zevran as a character and found his dialogue very 'one track'. Then I took him to Orzammar and he basically spoke my mind word for word when being asked by both prospective 'Kings' to risk our lives to prove loyalty to them, without them so much as introducing themselves or discussing what they stand for.
I must have been through Orzammar a half dozen times with different characters and always wanted to react as Zevran does, but couldn't.
Another pleasant surprise was taking Oghren to Warden's Keep, he has a great line if you use Avernus to close the veil in the end game, and an even better line at the end of that adventure.
After all these play throughs I think my ideal party would have been an all cynical party of Morrigan, Zevran, Oghren/Shale.

I usually take Leliana because she's usually the person I end up romancing (and also because most of my characters are not rogues so she is my lockpicker, and I dislike Zevran). Then I take a mage, which is usually Wynne because Morrigan is too easy to...disapprove, though I would normally prefer to take her. Then I fill the last slot usually with Shale because Shale is hilarious, but I have grown fond of Oghren and am starting to warm up to Sten a bit. I used to tote Alistair around, but now I only do so for RtO and Redcliffe (for quest/unusual interactions, obviously).
Wynne + Oghren also leads to all sorts of hilarity because Oghren basically has a giant crush on Wynne.

I kill zev without even talking to him. He is funny, I agree, but I never use him. I dislike the idea of a companion who turns on you when you have done nothing against him, so I subtract him from the game permanantly at first opportunity.
This will sound funny, but I am a guy who plays almost exclusively female toons (cuz they're pretty to look at). Since I have no interest in romancing a male npc, my romance options are limited to exactly one, so I normally always have Leliana along.
I rarely bring a full party to any encounter though. If you have not fine-tuned your companions then they are jsut sucking up pots or healer mana. There is no encounter on any setting so difficult that it requires four well-tuned characters to defeat.
I enjoy Alistar and Morringan's banter. I also Like having morrigan along because I love how npc's constantly just ignore her snide comments.

After 5 completed games I've gone through with just about everyone, only Shale hasn't had a full game dedicated to her. I think the only place I haven't taken her to is the forest? Hmm.
Anyway, after my 3rd file I started always takeing Alistair and Morrigan with me. If I'm a rogue I'll take Oghren, if I'm anything else I use Leliana.

Zevran and Sten are always in my party for all of my playthroughs. Morrigan's in if I'm not a mage myself, because I like how Sten puts her in her place.

I mix it up, no one stays with me from beginning to end. I choose the party members that will least disapprove of the choices I intend to make, and who have the skills for the quest ahead. The banter is an added bonus...

I took Morrigan and Alistair almost everywhere, but I did replace one or the other occasionally for Shale or, early-on, Sten.
I hate Zevran, and dislike Wynne even more.

My favorite character is probably Sten. There's something very intense about him, and I like his rumbling voice and his strange code of ethics. I look forward to getting him, and even go so far as to respec him with the respec mod from Nexus so I can replace Alistair- sorry Alistair, I like your voice (though I'll always visualize Nigel from Crossing Jordan), but Sten would be my LI if I were the Grey Warden. He has a big, strong build too that appeals to me- my husband is 6'4 and broad shouldered.
I also adore Wynne. Her very presence comforts me.

For tactical reasons? I have a lot of look with Morrigan,Alistair and Leliana for my mage Morrigan being more of a defensive foil with some heals to protect my Mage while she takes down large groups Alistair to do the bulk of the fighting and Leliana as an archer from long range. For my Warrior its Alistair,Ogrhen,Shale, Morrigan/Wynne/Leliana/Zevran depending if i feel like having a mage or a rogue. For purposes of amusing banter i like Zevran/Wynne combo or Morrigan and Alistair just because it's funny to listen to them bicker.
