"Charge, kill the toe rags"
"Who on earth do you think you are waving you're sword around like that"

:innocent:
Seriously though, I could care less whether I hear swear words in the game. Overruse of modern-sounding words against a background of archaic-sounding words would, however, break immersion. As for the overruse of blood splatter: bring it on, baby, bring on the blood:devil:

They DID say "sodding" a few times. An F Bomb equivalent in England, if I remember right.
Well, technically yes, but lots of people use the word casually without knowing what it's short for, and it doesn't tend to cause that much offense compared with other swear words.
(I worked not so long ago on a game where we had to change the dialogue because a character used the word "sodding", so I know far more than I really want to about it.)

hm..
Granted, but it's not really used in that context anymore, even people who even use the word 'sodomy' seriously nowadays probably don't equate anal sex and the mass rape of angels anymore.

I think 'frak' is a good example of swearing by not using a real world swear word. Alright, motherfrakkers? Good.

I don't know why I keep getting suprised everytime I see a topic like this. Perhaps I think everyone gets enough of filth in real life, but I suppose some people are more lucky than me.

I don't expect Bioware to make a hyperreal video game any time soon, but traces of the style can certainly work in their games. I'm happy with period curses, though they may sound cheesy - at least the characters say something other than tacky bowdlerizations.

shock or insult others. It is also a common response to a painful
experience. We've all done it: after stubbing our toe, or hitting our
thumb with a hammer, we draw a sharp breath and mutter a swear word.
Until now, though, whether swearing actually alters our perception of
pain had not been investigated. But according to a new study due to be
published next month in the journal NeuroReport, swearing increases pain tolerance, enabling us to withstand at least one form of pain for longer."

"Virtually all people swear, and people swear pretty consistently
throughout their lifetime — from the moment they can speak to the day
they die. Swearing is almost a universal constant in most people’s
lives. Research, according to Jay, has shown we swear on average from
0.3% to 0.7% of the time — a tiny but significant percentage of our
overall speech (frequently-used personal pronouns occur at
approximately 1.0% rate in speech). Swearing is more common than you
might think. But personality research suggests that people who swear
more, not surprisingly, score higher on traits such as extraversion,
dominance, hostility and Type A personalities. Swearing is not just for
the uneducated or people of a lower socioeconomic class — it knows no
social boundaries in its expression."

Swear rarily, it'll have a better impact, but also swear cleverly.

I have to say while gratuitous swearing would be annoying, swearing should be a part of a realistic battle. I loved it in Fallout 2 when Cassidy would say "Just Die Mother****ers" right as he fired off his shotgun.
