that is pretty awesome armor. Nice rendering, for the wear and tear effect.

YAY KERRIGAN!

On another note, I have to say this - just because a uniform or armor is form fitting or sleek doesn't mean it's oversexualized or reduces the wearer to an object of the male gaze.

Exactly... Obviously, based on OPs standards above armor is far more sexualized than ME. But when I see that image I never think like "Oh... man that armor is so hot for her!!!! She looks very hot in that armor".

In that one Star Trek, they made light-weight, transparent aluminum. Remember? For the giant whale aquarium? WHAT?! You don't remember the scene with Scotty talking to the computer by holding the ball mouse to his face? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!?!

Anyway, why is all this armor opaque? Let's get some transparent aluminum on these women.

If the female armor wasn't form fitting, it'd be potentially damaging to her body (lots of chest bouncing), and it's also impractical. The most practical armor would be skin tight and unintrusive, and as such the female versions of armor are feminised to make them more practical.

1If that was indeed true, then why are current US-issue body armor unisex...?

2Also, athletic females shouldn't be that large in the chest area due to excercise and burning fat.

1. Because US-issue body armor isn't a bodyglove. It's basically just a vest. When projectiles hit modern body armor it cant dent. If it was form fitting this could cause injury. ME armor doesn't appear to dent(somehow), but by making it formfitting allows far more mobility.

2. That's complete bull. My girlfriend ran track in high school, is pretty lean and still has a D cup.

I thought Dragon Skin ended up being deemed too expensive or some crap?

I'm out of touch.

As I said, Mass Effect armor has kinetic barriers to pick up the slack. It can be made more mobile since the barrier takes up the role previously held by heavy, unwieldy armored suits. Wearing overly cumbersome armor would be redundant if gunshots typically don't even touch it anyway, so they go with more mobile vestments and count on their shields to keep the disadvantages of lighter, tighter armor from being an issue.

My sister sometimes plays Mass Effect on her infiltrator. She doesn't rant about her armor. Well other then the rant that there isn't enough armor parts.

She just wants her Mass Effect wardrobe to look like her real life wardrobe and spend hours costumizing her battle gear like she does in the bathroom, me thinks...

She did also rant however to what some squadmates wear, particularly Miranda, Jacob and Jack since they're armor isn't really "combat effective".

Personally I have no idea how Miranda can stand to walk with that wedgie.

because females have narrow shoulders and wider pelvises. It's basic anatomy fella, you don't have to think about butts and boobies to realise why they are different sizes. Men are just top heavy and women are more evened out. It would look dumb to just use the same armor model for both.

Also the "armor with boobs" are not "plate armor" so it makes sense that the equivalent of "Chain Mail in space" wraps around the body tighter.

Is on the love hate train with DoD. Is more expensive, gives a lot more stopping power. But is the first armor to come in that unique style. Flexible as hell... well compared to stone blocks hanging in front of you.

Thus is the first vest that can ... in theory, since tests are classified . Can Stop bullets, but very little of the kinetic energy.

So those two things are keeping it in limbo. Can't seem to fin the damn article, but Dragon Skin is still on works, but now the very same company is asking for help to make up for the dragon's skin inability to stop kinetic energy, in the form of "kinetic" padding lol sounds familiar? that goes underneath the armor.

So.... for now... or at least until some gel or soft type of padding that doesn't need to sotp bullets, but dissipates kinetic energy is manufactured, dragon skin is on hold.

So hopes of getting it anytime soon are none existent, but I am sure within a decade or 2 it will be out and about like beads on Mardi Gra

I think the breast area is exaggerated in ME2 on some armors. On others, like the Kestrel chestpiece, and in ME1, the armor looks fine.

This isn't a big deal.

Perfect Answer. They give you a choice.

Actually I'd like it if they gave you more choices .

The armor in ME2 is actually pretty practical when compared to many games where bare-midriff armor is
used for people fighting with swords.Posted Image

Please give a reason to add constructively to this discussion. I've noticed that modern body armor in the real world are unisex. Why is it different in ME?

Actually bullet proof vests come in a female version, too... ;)

The codpiece of a male shepard is much more ridiculous. Also more bothersome is the fact that in ME2, female companions or NPCs don't wear armor anymore but outfits which are oversexed. I'd like to see Miranda go deep-space with that cleavage and without helmet and life support etc.

Its not that bad. I see worse in lots of other games.

Just because its curvy doesnt mean its sexualized...armor is about as curvy as it can be on guy characters too but you dont complain...
