On another thread, I read someone mention that there are issues with importing ME1 saves since patch 1.2. Specifically, it's mentioned that if you picked the neutral path at the end of ME1, this will be overwritten as the renegade path when importing since patch 1.2
I'm having a hard time finding any other reference to this, though, and it's not clear to me whether this is a multi-platform issue or just a PC issue. Can anyone confirm that this is a problem on the Xbox?

Just took a look, according to the info on the ME Wiki it is indeed glitched: I'm getting the intro text for an all-human Council while humanity only led a multi-racial one in my game.

Is there a way to determine whether it imported correctly on a save game that was started pre-patch?

Not without using something to look at the flags in the saves, I think. I'm not really into that sort of thing, so I can't really say for sure.
The Codex entries you get with both an all-human and a human-led Council are the same, though.

Looking at the beginning game text on the Wiki, at least, I think the game I started on Xbox back in January imported fine, while the one I created this past month imported incorrectly (only because the text from the "multiracial council" choice actually sounds familiar).
That said, I'd still be interested to find out if there's any way to check which ending got imported in-game, like somewhere in the Codex or in certain dialog options, besides viewing the starting text (seeing as how you'd need to have started the game already in order to get one import state).

I just deleted my patches by clearing the cache of my 360, pulled the ethernet cable out (importer would not work otherwise) and then imported a "Paragon dead Council" save into ME2.
Result: same intro text... I'm not so sure how it was now anymore.
