So do you guys trust Miranda as your XO going forward for ME3? Do you think she will be a good second commander or do you think she'll stab you in the back? Also given the choice would you have picked her for your XO in 2 if not why not? If you were given the choice who would've appointed the position in 2?

Me I don't trust her it could be the fact she was so willing to go through my emails and spy on me for all I know I had a camera in my cabin! I think her persona is harsh but not in a made to command sort of way she seems to just rub most people the wrong way this cold cause unnecessary tension and in fighting going forward. If I could've chosen I would've picked Garrus his persona seemed similar to Presley's in that he could be a friend but hash if need be.

Definitely.  He would be my first choice.  He more than demonstrated he was a capable leader if you picked him for the fire team.
And I'm not sure about Miranda as XO at the beginning of the game, but after my Shepard took her to the final battle and destroyed the collector base, she trusts her somewhat more now that Miranda resigned on the spot during the confrontation with TIM.

It takes a balance couple.

Like any parenting kind a. ONe has to be tough, but not so tough, other warm and tender lol. You got too much of either side and it goes bad... quickly.

Same in the military or privately funded spec ops. You got either an ass of a CO.... or an ass of an XO... someone has to play the not so much drill sergeant part, and another the not so your friend part.

Also, one of the 2 has to be the manager type, paperwork, financial advisor, accountant. It always works in pairs... one leads, one attends the books.

There is noone in the normandy with the ability for managing the normandy itself, only one is Miranda. In other words she is a tough soldier, with hot bod, that is also a paper pusher by nature.....pretty good combination... without the bad attitude at the beginning though.

One keeps cohesion other discipline/paper/financial in check.. Now is better if both are respected... which takes time.

Miranda at the beginning though thinks "I dont give a hooters butt if they respect me (although I have one) they will do as I say how I say it)... but that attitude never gets extra 10% of people.

Now. Your funded by a 3rd party, who is providing you with ship, armor, and weapons... mostly. Unfortunately you work with them you they gota be sure they want to work with you as well.

If ya dont like the boat your in, you can always leave it :P

I could outright shoot Miranda everytime she does her pathetic little "I am Shepards second in Command, on this ship, we follow orders ...". When the frak did I declare her my second in Command? I can't stand her character. Either she is too ****y or she's like "Oh noez, father paid it!". She's not mentally stable. I'd never make her my XO (unless I am playing my Pro-Cerberus Character!). She is even worse than TIMmy, at least he knows what he is fanatic about about. Miranda is just plain fanatic. Dumbest character in this game and with an ass she won't even fit through the Airlock. Seriously, who designed her lower regions? Dat ass, dat cameltoe? Might aswell have been Ero-Sennin himself laying a helping hand on that "researcher" ...

@Spartas Husky:
Why not outright seal the Bridge, airlock the netire Normandy SR2, say Joker to lay course to the Arcturus Station and present yourself to High Command with yourself being resurrected AND bringing a new Ship?

There are no XOs on Cerberus ships. The SR2 is a civilian ship, Shepard says so himself to Joker.

Can't imagine someone else than Miranda.
She is the XO from the beginning, and will remain the only XO of all my shepard (even the pure paragon / anti cerberus one). Garrus is a good lieutenant, but nothing more.
Haters gonna hate, but she's the more competent for this job.

And if someone on the Normandy is not agree, he/she will leave the ship immediately.
"On the ship we follow orders !"

If I had my way:

The Mess Segeant would be promoted to XO. He'll get things done and run a clean ship.

Kelly would be fired, and Miranda would get Kelly's job, minus the ship psychologist responsibility. The Doctor would get that responsibility instead.

In Kelly's role, Miranda can still sort of spy on me but not have a lot power on the ship. And she can use my office in case she feels uncomfortable working on the bridge.

Personally, I'd like to be able to choose my XO. To be able to appoint my own, ecven if it had to be one of Garrus, Miranda or Jacob, would be a pretty cool addition, and it would make me feel more like the ship's leader.

but your not the ship's leader. Your the crews leader, the normandy, nor its equipment are yours.... until you plug in EDI that is... then screw TIM lol he can consider his several billion dollar investment a loss for sure :P

I'd definitely name Miranda as my XO. She's sharp, focused, experienced and knows how to get stuff done. She's focused on the mission, but I think that she is also capable of addressing any personnel issues (pertaining to the mission, that Kelly can't deal with for whatever reason). As the Illusive Man's #1 agent on board Normandy, I can see why she'd want to keep tabs on Shepard. After all, Cerberus footed an enormous bill for bringing him back, and frankly they'd be foolhardy not to keep a close eye on him at least in the beginning.

Miranda has secrets, but rightfully so. She's been through a lot. We only get the tip of the iceberg during her loyalty mission, but she carries many burdens. She really showed her loyalty during the suicide mission though - telling her boss, one of the most influential, well-connected and powerful humans in the galaxy, to shove it where the sun don't shine in the eleventh hour takes guts. I think now that she trusts Shepard, she'll be an enormous asset to the team and the ultimate mission of stopping the Reapers. And given hers and my [Shepard's]... interactions, I imagine she'll be inclined to deactivate any surveilance equipment in particular areas of the ship :innocent:

However... there's a part of me that would recruit Captain Bailey as XO. BSG fans know that iconic voice anywhere :P

Maybe not in ME2, but in ME3 I'd hope to be in charge of the ship itself, and so free to appoint my own XO.

In general, I think Miranda makes a good second in command, since she's pretty much no nonsense by the book type and she'll keep the crew from slacking off. That's good for Shepard since he won't have to deal with that BS. Only problem is that half the crew dislikes or distrusts her.

I have to admit, I got a little annoyed in my first playthrough when Miranda was all like, "I'm Shepard's second-in-command," when you bring Jack on board. In that particular playthrough, if anyone on the ship was going to be Shepard's XO, it would have been Garrus.

Shepard is the poster boy...he's the one the crew looks up to and adores, who can look aside at casual vices like gambling and stuff. But like Husky says, you'd probably want an XO who can fill the lacks of the CO, like making the hard decisions, putting a foot down for the sake of discipline, doing the awful paperwork (Sorry, I can't imagine Shepard filling in custom and immigration forms for example)--Miranda fits that role perfectly. Sure, half the crew probably thinks she's a ****, but no one can ever brand her as incompetent, and that in itself is a form of respect.

Someone is always the "damn that guy/gal is a stuck up bitck/dick of a person.... but gets people to do their jobs"

Is either the boss, or the vice boss lol... unfortunately sometimes is both... which is really bad :P

Did the haters not play this game? She's completely loyal to Shepard at the end. She's level headed and smart, what's wrong with her being second in command?

Since when did this become a pissing contest between Miranda and Garrus? I'll admit at the start I was rather taken aback that I had to take on this woman as my XO when I don't know crap about her. But by the end of the game, Miranda basically proves herself in every way possible. Your personal preference may be Garrus, but that doesn't mean Miranda will not make a good XO. it's not a mutually exclusive choice.

Absolutely not, regardless of her loyalty or ability. She just doesn't sit right with me.

I would never have allowed a cerberus officer to be my XO if I had the choice
