Sniping Biotic?

Can you use the Widow sniper? And last of all, is it fun to play or is AR/Pistols better?

Sniper adepts can work well, and if you play a longer range casting adept rather than assault adept, they can be a VERY nice addition. The biggest problem with sniper rifles is when you cast a power the zoom cross-hair pops up, making it a bit annoying. This doesn't take away from the usability of the weapon it just makes it annoying. If you have the firepower pack DLC, then the new assault rifle is an excellent alternative, maybe even a better choice, but I always like snipers personally.

Is it good? The Viper works very well in some situations. But I would say overall I would have had more use out of AR training with the Mattock.
Is it fun? If you like sniping normally, yes it is.
Correction: I played an Engineer, not a Sentinel. Pretty much the same deal though.

You can take the sniper rifle spec, but you can't get the Widow. Upgrade weapons are only available to classes that already have the weapon you upgrade, ie Vanguard can take Claymore or assault rifles, Infiltrator can take Widow or shotguns, etc. Since Adepts don't have one of the three "bonus" weapons they simply get the ability to use the class of weapons, without the upgrade weapon.

Thanks. I could see how annoying it could be indeed.
I'll give infiltrator a shot then; I do love sniping usually.
Thanks both of you

As for whether you should, caster Sentinels benefit a lot from having a sniper rifle. You can use the scope to aim Overload/Reave past cover and over extremely long distances. I was able to strip the defenses off three collectors while their platform was in the distance on Hardcore. (You can also aim your squaddies' powers, all of which are instant cast.) The long range + power armor means you'll rarely be hurt as long as you keep your distance, even on Insanity.

If you're on the pc version, just use the gibbed editor and give yourself the widow.
I actually attempted but all I get is a broken texture in the weapon's menu... maybe I'm doing it wrong though
Thanks again for the added input guys.

It's easier to mod the coalesced.ini file - open it using Notepad ++; look for weapons layout; add weapon(s) to class you like. If you save your game before going aboard Collector ship and add SG to Adept class - you'll be able to chose Claymore on Collector ship - it's awesome on an Adept, much better than SR (use Mattock instead)

Thanks for that will definately give it a shot tonight (no pun intended).
If the SR does indeed zoom in on each power use... it kinda "breaks immersion" for me.
I can see how shotguns would work pretty well on an adept too. (Geth/Claymore)

In my experience the Widow works really well on the Adept - Singularity's rather charming habit of fixing an enemy in place makes for some really munchkin headshots, particularly on things like Harbinger and Scions, and the Widows huge damage goes some way to making up for the lack of damage upgrades in the Adept's passive.
It's the only sniper rifle I use on my Adept, anymore.

With SR equiped it will zoom when using powers behind cover and/or when rmb is pressed. If you're out in the open you can use powers the 'normal' way.

Is it the Anti-Matter rifle in the coalesced file? Sorry if I seem rather uninformed but I have not played with that file before.
As far as I know it's not possible to use .ini file to add Revenant/Widow/Claymore - you'll need Gibbed's editor for this. You can mod the .ini file to add weapon training (you can give Adept AR and SR; you can also use this to remove weapons). Everything you need to know can be found here
I never equip Shep with more than 3 weapons - so I can switch without pausing the game and I never need more than different weapons for a mission. But if you're like JaegerBane and like to burden poor little Shepard with CAIN, the Revenant, Widow, Claymore, Phalanx and Locust - you can

I love both the revenant and the widow and can't make up my mind lol. With this, I don't have to!

in me1 is there any way by which adepts can zoom sniper rifles cause i don't see the point in carrying it if i can't use it
Did you have the option for sniper rifle specialization at the start of the game? My Vanguard was able to take sniper rifle training.
Also, this thread is 3 years old and about ME2, not ME1. I would recommend starting a new thread for this kind of topic since many people skip such old threads.
