Hi guys. I've looked around and it doesn't seem like many people have this problem, and there doesn't seem to be a solution. I post this entirely out of frustration, with no hope.
Anyway, my copy of Dragon Age has the latest Mac patch. I play it with no other apps running. No problems up till the Circle of Magi quest (specifically rescuing everyone from The Fade). Ever since then (I'm onto the Orzammar quest now), the game has been consistent in crashing. It's always that 'exception raised' crash, where it asks you if you want to debug, and nothing happens whether you click yes or no. It happens in area transitions and regular play (walking/running). It happens at any time.
My specs:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,4
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.53 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Consistent 'exception raised' crashing

Since the patch I've also been having incredible slow downs and crashes. Not sure there's much anybody can really do about it.

How frequently are you having crashes? For me it was mainly every once and a while after many hours of game play.
What settings are you using in the game? What resolution are you playing the game in? Detail settings? And texture settings? Have you tried changing them?
The only other thing I can think of is are you running 10.6.4? I believe you have a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256 MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory. If your model identifier is correct. There were some problems with NVIDIA cards. Apple has since released a graphics update on Tuesday August 17th. So if you haven't checked software update in a while, I would perhaps do that.
As to whether that will help you with the exception raised crashes. Who knows. I still get them every once and a while, though my major problem lately has been major delays in damage, spells, and poultices that cause enemies to remain alive and swing at my characters long after they should be dead.

Haven't had any (new) problems since installing 1.03. Less crashes than before, actually.
(I shouldn't tell you that, since Murphy's law would dictate that I'd be showered with crashes from now on...)
Macbook Pro Late 2008 (unibody) Dual Core 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, NVidia 9600M GT.
NOT running 10.6.4. Oh, wait, it HAS installed 10.6.4 two days ago. I'm doomed!
(No crashes since that happened though...)

Update: No, I'm not doomed. In fact, the game now runs more smoothly than it did with the previous patch under 10.6.3. No crashes yet either.

I'm crashing also, with the "Exception raised, Unhandled division by zero at address 0x0073aba1. Do you wish to debug it?" message.
This has happened 3 times in short order as I try to play RTO add in. It also happens without fail at certain scenarios in game. One is when you go into tunnels and meet wraiths on way to daughter with cat (to solve quest for keyphrase to wake Shale). Another happens routinely when you go into the Hovel in one of the Denerim side areas and inside the house with Wilhelm who turns into a wraith.
The only way I get past either of these rooms is to try a different character in front and different room positioning. I'm not sure what triggers the bloody crash... usually takes me 4-5 crashes to find some angle, some placement, before I can finish the fight.
Today, it's random in RTO. Changing camera angle, or moving chars around at onset of battle doesn't seem to make much difference. I'll keep trying but I'll also keep cursing Bioware for their very poor support and/or their very inadequate implementation of the game for Mac users. Damn, Blizzard spoiled me good I guess.

Latest OS, running at full resolution (1440 x 900), Graphics at low quality, textures at medium. Same settings I've been using since the start. This is post-graphics update from Apple.
I had about three or four hours with no crashes, but it has happened again (during the final battle on the Proving grounds), so that software update didn't make a difference. So, yeah, is there another patch coming for this game soon? Real happy about spending $40 for unstable software.

I have a total of about 30 hours game time since installing the patch and 12 hours since the graphic/10.6.4 update and yesterday I had my first freeze. The game froze when I activated Stealth shortly after loading. I don't know whether this was a crash or simply a temporary freeze, but I exited the program with alt-#-esc (without problems), restarted and played flawlessly past the freeze point.
No "exception raised" anymore since 1.0.3. As I said, the game runs faster now than it did before.
Do you guys use nVidia or ATI graphics cards? I remember there was a problem with Wine and ATI cards when DA:O was released. Since the Mac port is also uses Wine technology...

I don't think your going to get a whole lot of updates here. I've seen these sorts of crashes in many of the games I have using cider, including spore, the sims 3, and a few in command and conquer 3. A very long thread on this problem has been made on the spore forums. I've seen no clear answer as to how to fix the issue. And no real official response from EA or Transgaming.
As to the Mac os patch, I think you are referring to graphics update on Tuesday August 17th, as that is the only one i've seen pop up in software update recently. I've tried it and have seen no change in the frequency that the game crashes. I've had a few freezes and 2 exception raised crashes. I have also been encountering, the longer I play, more and more delays in the damage, spells and other actions taking effect.
The only advice I have, if you have not done so, is run disk permissions after exception raised crashes. I've found that if I do that normally I won't have another for quite some time. But your milage may and probably will vary.
All and all, I think that this is one of the last "ciderized" mac games that I will purchase. With a new mac in my future, I'm thinking bootcamp might be the way to go from now on.

I received a new patch this evening. Anyone else tried it out? Seems to be a little more stable. It was a reather large download. I am not finding a 'readme' file with it though. Not sure what it applied.

Go to your "Applications" folder, right-click on "Dragon Age Origins.app", select "Information".
My version, without the patch applied, is 1.03.11253.4152
I wonder what the 1.04 patch does, since it seems to fix problems (on the Windows side) that I've never experienced on the Mac side. So I'm a bit hesitant. Or maybe it's just a compatibility fix...

Post-patch my version now reads 1.04.12393.4467. Kudos to TransGaming for catching us up to current standards!
Of course, now I get to see if it actually works... ;-)

About three hours post-1.04 patch update, another exception raised crash. I'm in the Deep Roads on the way to the missing paragon, and I was actually able to duplicate the crash when using Morrigan's Affliction Hex. This didn't happen again when I used it at a different time, however.
Otherwise, that delayed log-in other people have reported where the game has to check on your downloaded content is the same on my copy. So that sucks too.
Everyone having fun in this thread?

Are folks still having this issue? I'm new to Dragon Age. I purchased and installed Snow Leopard, then downloaded and installed DAO. At first, the game would let me get through creating my character and part of the next cutscene before crashing and giving me the "exception raised" notice. I went back and downloaded every single update for OS and game I could find, and now it won't even let me finish creating a character without crashing. It doesn't seem to matter what I choose, it will crash.
Here's a screenshot of the message.
It reads "Exception raised: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x4da001e0 at address 0xffff07c2. Do you wish to debug it?" If I choose yes, the whole thing disappears. If I choose no, the game freezes and I have to restart my computer to get out of it.
I have a MacBook with plenty of RAM. Not sure what's going on here. Any help would be so very, very awesome. Thanks!

akadoor, what exactly are your computer's stats?
AFAIAC, I had frequent crashes before the 1.0.4 update and before Snow Leopard went 10.6.4 and the graphic driver update that happened shortly afterwards. After these three updates, crashes have become very rare. (and framerate has improved greatly...) Try running Software Update (from the Apple tab) again and see if there are still more things to update...

Marvin: I have a MacBook running Snow Leopard, OS X Version 10.6.4 and did all updates required. I have a 2.4 GHz processor and 4 gigs of RAM. I'm not sure what other stats to give you.

Hmmm, this is strange. My stats are basically the same, except that it's a MacBook Pro. What graphic card do you have? It seems to me that ATI cards are more prone to crashes than NVidia cards...

I have an Intel GMA X3100, which I don't think actually is a card, if my ignorant Google searches are serving me well.

Hmm, I'm at a loss here, sorry. Does the problem still exist? If you can't play the game at all, you should return it and ask for a refund.
Yesterday I had a good ol' "exception raised" crash, but they have become extremely rare...
EDIT: Did you try lowering the graphics settings to an absolute minimum (especially the quality settings), disabling framebuffers and vsync (You probably won't need the latter anyway), and setting antialiasing to zero? If that works, try raising the settings one by one and see where the crashes occur.

Yeah, I've done all of the above, to no avail. I just gave it a final try, and it died, again. Bah.
Thanks for all of your help, however!
