Spoilers inside, you have been warned.

Is it just me or do all of these previews (or most of them) read as if they were written by the same person?

So you're implying our opening chapter dictates what party members we'll have from that point forward? I hope this is true, and would certainly add depth to story and gameplay if true. If you're lying though...

*sigh* I'm gonna have to play through this game many times, aren't I? 'Cause I'm one of those people who has to see all the outcomes and hear all the dialogue.

Whoa...we have to choose to either kill the tainted templar ourself, or have his wife do it? Damn...

Anyone else plan to be sadistic bastards and make the wife do it? >=]

So... depending on your choices, you could have, for example, A & B or B & C or A & C die? That could add up to the replay value a bit, kind of like having Alistair or Loghain in your party post-Landsmeet.

Ah.. ahem... that's kinda nearing the end of the game...

Whereas the aforementioned is at the beginning.

All I said is that the result mentioned is not the only result you can get. It's the one they got. I'm saying no more than that.

Ehhhhhhhhhh, i really really want to believe we'd get to choose who our potential companions are from this scenario but the quoted statement definitely cools my heels so to speak. Hopefully we'll get set straight on this at some point before release because i doubt anyone wants to feel like they were a victim of some kind of bait & switch.

I was thinking something similar. That's a tough pill to swallow and if it optional my guess is whatever characters are optinal won't go a whole lot further. I can't see them writing and recording a full companion amount of dialogue for characters who may get whacked off right at the start.

Why not? They did that with Origins.

But you weren't forced to kill or leave those behind, a matter of fact you were strongly encouraged and in all likely hood would be taking them all with you. In this instance it doesn't seem as if there is an option to actually take them all with you, rather choices will be made and people will be certain to die. At least that's the impression I've gathered from the review and David's comment, could be wrong.

But with Origins at least it was mostly choosing Alistair or Loghain at the end, not at the very beginning of the game.

I believe they're talking more about the instances like leaving Leliana in Lothering and hacking Wynne to pieces at the Tower.

In Origins, most of companions could be killed, ignored, or removed from the party almost as soon as you meet them. All of them save for Alistair were optional.

Or outright killing Zevran. I did that in my first playthrough, and then I was forced to live with the tragic consequences of my actions.

You beat me to it, and I even forgot to mention you can also forget Lelianna and Sten in Lothering and never meet then before Lothering gets swallowed by the blight.

Go teamwork! *high fives*

Indeed, and this point is one that give me what hope i have of them doing what we would assume from David's first post.

Another consideration i had was that you could use this choice of who to keep and who to leave to help you tailor your party a bit more. I think most people, especially ones not hardcore about the roleplaying kept wynne in the party constantly after getting her because she was really the only viable option as a healer other than your PC if chose that route. Same with morrigan because she was a very effective CC/Nuker. Giving you a choice early about companion composition later in the game would be A+ in my book.

Ugh. The last time I saw "spoiler" it just mentioned character names. Not who died! :(

who dies is apparently related to choices you make so it might not be them who dies when you play
