Hahaha. Awesome. I definitely read that as "fire bath" and I got very interested. If only he had two flames goin' on, then we could be really immature and say "fire balls". :( crycry

Hey, as long as he doesn't have a dead wife and a disaffected kid then I'm a happy camper.

I <3 Carth.

...

Anomen - dead sister, proposes to you with her ring
Aarin Gand - killed his girlfriend
Valen - dead girlfriend, but pretty much over it
Carth - dead wife, disaffected kid
Sky - dead wife, dead daughter, a little schizo about it
Kaidan - compares you with Rana, and his whole personality was altered with her rejection
Zevran - killed his girlfriend, angsts
Thane - dead wife, disaffected kid

We have seen it. We have seen it more than enough.

Just for fun, going to compare Males.

Leliana: Compares you to Marjolaine.
BG2: Jaheira? I don't remember.
Jack: Mentions the thug she was in love with before.

Never played Jade Empire or NWN so I can't say anything about them.

Urgh, Alistair. Maybe its just me but by the time we got to Lothering I wanted to kill him and run away into teh wilds with Morrigan. And I liked the guy at first! He was my bro! But then he got all whiney and his jokes just werent funny anymore.

Please Bioware, please dont add another obvious buddy cliche?

EDIT: Also, proving how awesome Hawke is: He caught every last single one of those buggers.

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh. Did you just combine my two favorite things in the world?

*explodes in a puff of happiness*

I wonder what his favorite pokemon are.

Almost everyone likes him though, so they didn't do as bad as you think. I'd probably say he's the most popular male LI BioWare has ever done.

I think it just me. I can understand why people like him, I can even understand why a lot of the fangirls adore him, but goddamn if I just didnt want to find a way to kill by the end of Lothering. No biggie though, I just forced him to Marry Anora and become king. His dissatisfaction and horror was very amusing :)

There's truth to that, but people either love or love to hate those characters.

It works, obviously, and I can't blame people for wanting something different, of course. So do I. But, if it's well written, I wouldn't really give a damn either way. Heh.

There's nothing in JE...doesn't that elven paladin of Tyr chick in NWN lose her fiance and you can romance her?

I respect your opinion but I found Alistair to be the only true "friend" to my character ingame, I felt like I was best buds with him at the end of my first playthrough and it was awesome. I never felt the same with Kaidan, Jacob, Carth and such. Alistair was the first time I actually cared for the starting male companion as a friend.

Carth Syndrome is bad, though. Any romance that has some sort of Carth Syndrome is.. you don't feel "number one" in that person's life but simply a replacement.

Or so I'm told.

Real people have real issues.  I do agree that alot of Bioware characters have... rather outlandish issues, though.

Aerie was one "emotional baggage" character done well, I thought.  She acted like someone whos gone through what she did might - very clingy, whiny, and attention seeking.  Would've been a pretty perfect character if not for the fact she was mentally 11 years old.

I was getting a little discouraged by the general reaction on the forums to DA2. I'm glad that there are some people with positive comments, and I'm glad I'm not the only one to think Hawke is yummy. You folks are awesome. I'm out, but I will be working on some Hawke fanart tomorrow.

I really liked having Zevran as my mate but it got really ****ing awkward when he tried to flirt with me.

Oh yes, I remember reading about her. The difference with her is that she never loved her fiance.

I agree, I didn't find Alistair's "whining" to be annoying or anything like most people tend to say. I think he's perfectly justified in his grief and such. The only thing with "Carth syndrome" is that they had a previous lover and they always compare them to you.

"You remind me so much of my <sister / mother / lover / fiance / wife>" tends to get ackward when he's sleeping with you.

Yeah, Alistair's issues were very well thought out and understandable.  Also extremely unique, as I can't think of another RPG character with a comparable background.  It was nice to have a character who has more to their past than "I was betrayed" or "My family/loved one is died!!!!!!!!!!".

"But sir, nobody worries about upsetting a droid."
"That's because droids don't pull peoples' arms out of their sockets when they lose. Wookiees are known to do that."

Somebody make use of the above somehow.
