I think he has potential as a great protagonist. Like you said, we know next to nothing about him, however, that's no reason not to be simply optimistic.

If we know "little to nothing" about him, how can you judge him as "not special", I mean, disregard that every BioWare dev says he is the single, most important character in the history of Thedas during the Dragon Age...

And I don't remember watching a debut trailer as many times as I've watched Destiny...

Disliked Origins folks:

• Loghain/Simon Templeman? (probably not as Loghain is surely too distinctive)
• Arl Howe/Tim Curry (unlikely, he has a very distinctive voice and all)
• Gregoir/Brian George (Well most folks certainly aren't huge fans of the Templars, but Greg wasn't that unpopular surely?)
• Jowan/Desmond Askew (I thought he was quite likable, and surely too soft spoken with his natural voice)
• Kolgrim/Douglas Weston (As much as he looked like Leonidis I doubt he was that popular)
• Behlen/Wally Wingert (He certainly wasn't very likable...)
• Cailan/Peter Bramhill (for Calla! Although I'm not sure he was unpopular was he?)
• Cammen!/Jeff Haslem (I actually wouldn't be surprised, he was annoying enough and Jeff has voiced several Bioware characters before)
• Leske+Dwynn/Brian Bloom (He has recently done voice work on other games such as Mafia II and Dwynn at least wasn't that popular)
• !!! Vaughan (yes that one)/Nicholas Boulton: (he is British so fits with their mostly British casting, and can you think of a more unpopular character?! My personal prediction)
• Cullen/Greg Ellis (Unlikely seeing as he was also Anders)
• Oskias+Alarith/Gideon Emery (not unpopular enough...)
• Trian Aeducan/Zach Hanks (He is also doing voice work for TOR)
• Niall/Liam O'Brien (just throwing him out there)
• Ser Jory/Mark Healy (I've seen people state their dislike of him before)

If anyone can think of others I'll add them!

Making this list I'm beginning to realise how many unlikable people were in DAO... Another issue is that DG could be cheating, some voice actors voiced multiple characters so this actor could have voiced one who was unpopular but was better known for voicing one who -was- popular lol.

Edit: Bolded a few popular suggestions that are also British.

There is a huge difference between Cullen and Anders, yet they're voiced by the same guy! I bet that flexibility will give Greg Ellis the job, since Hawke must be able to be either angry/bitter like a tortured templar, or snarky and fun-loving like Alistair in a dress!

I would be psyched if it was Simon Templeman, but as you pointed out it might be a little too distinctive.

Really? I found Angry Anders and Cullen sounded the same. I was going to say Angry Cullen but Cullen is always angry..

Nah as much as it's a joke that he was a 'fan favourite' he actually is quite popular. He is just a marmite character and the people who didn't like him were quite vocal about it. Not to mention Steve Blum is one of those guys that voices almost everything.

Greg Ellis also did the voice of the Ash Warrior Leader, though. If he ended up being Hawke, that's the sort of tone I would love to hear from badass Hawke. Anders could be sarcastic Hawke. And Cullen could be good Hawke! (All Hawke is good Hawke, though.)

Still, I'm hoping for Peter Bramhill. I'm getting too excited. Someone hold me.

I imagined Cullen to be bad Hawke simply due to how angry he sounds.
