A poster has now said that to them the voice sounded more like Boulton than Bramhill. Looks like this VA debate, just got a whole lot more debatable.

I always threw my lot in with Boulton. Cailan wasn't that unpopular. There are some people who definitely liked him. I can't imagine anyone liking Vaughn. I'd be more pleased with Boulton than Bramhill. Still, I won't die if it's him.

The thing is that DG didn't say he was "very unpopular." He said that he was "not very popular." There is a difference. I would consider Cailan not very popular, whereas Vaughan is very unpopular. But hey.

True. Very true. Still, my thinking moves in the direction that he wouldn't say "unpopular" unless he was sure most people didn't like the character. Either way, I'm cool with it. B)

Yeah, I understand. But it's Vaughan. I don't know anyone who actually likes him without saying it just to be contrary. I'm sort of "meh" on the Boulton front, but I'd still play male Hawke if it was him. I liked Ser Bryant well enough.

I must admit it will be weird if it's Boulton and he ever sounds like Vaughan during the game. I'll have to fight the urge to suddenly make my Hawke beat himself to death with his jar of Nutella. Man I hated that guy.

Vaughn is just one of those . . . universally hated characters isn't he?

Not universally. I have a lady friend who gets all giddy and weird whenever she hears him talking.

Probably the only redeeming quality about him is that he has better hygiene than most. So, pretty hard to like the guy or even just be neutral toward him.

Which is why I think DG referring to him as "not very popular" strike me as odd. Hated him. So much. But, man, his voice was hot.

The thing that really gets me, though, is that I distinctly remember someone saying that they had to bring the VA in to rerecord some lines after ComicCon because his voice was a bit too high. I can see Bramhill's voice being "too high," but I have a hard time imagining Boulton's voice as being too high.

You'd be surprised. His actual fans are few and far between.

Nonsense.

Everyone wants to be [Cailan] GLORIOUS. [/Cailan]

And the number of people who cheered when he was crushed by that ogre are practically legion from what I can see.

My point. If someone doesn't hate him or dislike him, he's usually no more than a meme.

I wish BioWare would just tell us and stop all these "wild imaginings and reckless speculation." :D

Seriously! I keep deviating between hopeful and crestfallen to hopeful again.

I just want to know, BioWare! That's all!

His death-by-ogre was particularly fitting. His big shiny armor and massive sword and delusions of heroism... all crushed by the big, nasty, brutish reality of the situation.

His death was... glorious.

I agree. He was a good guy and probably one of the few characters with a moral core similar to one we share in our modern world. Sure he was a lecher but I doubt there was any love in his relationship with Anora from the get go.

He's only real fault was being mind blowingly annoying. Jesus, mate, you know how you get your name put down in the history books? By revamping the tax system or strengthing the military or setting about a wave of reforms that push your nation into the modern or improving the roads and trade networks or centralizing your gov't so that your military might is no longer dependant on the whims of local lords. You don't have to ride off in a suit of glittering armor atop a white stead into the middle of a horde of unfeeling monsters.

I "interrogated" one of my watchers at devART when she commented on my shirtless Hawke drawing and said something about his VO being hot. And she said it does sound like Vaughan's VA.

I think a lot of people really underestimate Cailan. He had enormous potential, but his wife had quite the iron grip on politics as his father did before he was lost at sea. It's a rather steep learning curve, after all. If you're playing a City Elf, he mentions tearing down the walls of the Alienage, which is a sure sign that he's interested in change and helping his people. All of them, not just the humans. Just because he grew up hearing stories about his ancestors and the Grey Wardens, leading to his being a glory-seeker and wannabe adventurer doesn't make him annoying or a poor leader. He was young and foolish, yes, but if he hadn't died in that battle, he had untapped potential. Just like Maric.

/gets off soapbox

Did she hear him at ComicCon or at Gamescom? (I also find Bramhill's voice hot, so...)

Ya, but he always seemed well groomed, even when he was thrown into that cell for a long time, he was well dressed and such. Just a complete narcisist.

I actually felt great anger and a bit of sadness at Cailens death because that no account coward Lohgain left him there to die (Oaths of loyalty to your King and the son of your friend mean nothing when a power grab is involved apparently).

Sure, Cailen may have been a little foolhardy, but he died like a MAN for what he believed in and wanted a better existance for ALL his people.
