Beat that, Lady Hack... err... Hawke!
I love RPG's where we can jump, swimm, climb, cook, forge and hone our weapons, hunt our food, sleep in beds, sit in chairs, get drunk, brew our beer and potions, fall off a cliff, skin animals, extract their teeth, claws, mandibules, wings, poison sacks, do some workout with heavy lifting weights (like a huge grindstone), just like the Gothics and Risen.
The best news about The Witcher 2 I've read is that we'll play in a open world, it is not an action-rpg but an hardcore rpg-rpg and we can jump, no more loading screens to enter a house or inn or whatever.
The one gripe I have with BW games is exactly the impossibility to jump and the walls made to make me think like cattle. (If that makes any sense. Couldn't find the proper English for what I mean).
But a button or keyboard key for a jump attack... sounds awful. If it is a skill, it is totally different and a lot better.

I find the paraphrase options on the dialogue wheel are better written in ME2, so Shepard is less likely to act in a way that breaks her character.slimgrin wrote...
ME2 more so than ME1? Do explain.
ME1 did this several times for every hour of gameplay. In ME2 I've only really noticed it in conversations with the Illusive Man, and I think that's the result of an inconsistently applied paragon-renegade system.
I wasn't really able to roleplay in ME at all, but I will say that the voice-over severely limited my personality options. I can't even imagine a character I would want to play suiting the voice of MaleShep.Ragabul the Ontarah wrote...
Of course it's my fault if I make a character I can't identify with. That's why I try not to make characters that I can't identify with. I could never for instance play as a Sith in KotoR. I never manage anything much darker than paragade in ME. However, I have still been able to play with characters of many different personality types and with varying motivations.
Right, this is pretty much all I do, and if a game doesn't permit this then I don't think it's an RPG.Sometimes I roleplay more as less as you describe, by designing a character and guiding them through a world according to a preset personality.
This one I can't do because I don't beleive in moral dilemmas. I think moral decisions are a matter of simple arithmetic. Different character make different moral decisions, but they always think they're right (and by their own moral standards, they are).Sometimes I pretty much interject myself into RPGs because I appreciate the morality dilemmas they present me with (the good ones anyway).
I tried to do this with Sheploo in ME (I needed to play a soldier for a bit to unlock the Sniper Rifle for my other characters, so I took the opportunity to try out some decisions), but I found I couldn't do it. If I don't care about my character, then I can't bring myself to slog through the monotony of all that combat. And sometimes I use dummy characters that are designed for no purpose other than to explore my squad members and scenarios in a game world.
I've come to realise that I only enjoy combat as a roleplaying exercise. If I'm not making decisions that express my character's personality, then I'm not having fun.
That's very well put.Ragabul the Ontarah wrote...
Hmm, how do I put it? I think to you an RPG is almost a sort of proving ground for your character. A story used to define your character. Or a world upon which your character can make the personality you gave him an actuality. For me an RPG is something like an ant farm. It's a thing I can prod and poke and examine to see how it reacts.

You got no argument from me there, I started playing games in the late '80s / early '90s, and I still occasionally go back and play some of them, or even find a new one that I like. The point I was making was that for a lot of people graphics are important, if it's not the latest and the greatest they're not interested. Their loss really.

I think that graphics are important, but they aren't the only important thing. To me, games are, primarily, a visual medium. But in many cases they are more of a mental medium. For example: I often imagined a lot of what my character in BG2 was doing while only part of me was watching the screen. That aside, I still like good graphics in my game, but gameplay is probably more important in the long run.
Game play is the most important thing. I still enjoy old games.

We spoke about this before, but I think you're right on the money about that. Different writers wrote Shepard, and not everyone seemed to agree on how much and what was fixed about Shepard. The game seemed to suffer from a too many cooks in the kitchen issue.
Sometimes, paragon meant diplomatic and renegade meant brute. Other times, paragon meant good and renegade meant bad, but you were violent in either case.

I think I'd still go back and play Commander Keen, but I'm still hungry for better graphics in Dragon Age 2.

Don't know who Jane was, but again considering you customize the female version just like you do the male one I don't see how you can say one way or the other on this one.

Who thought Jane was pretty? She was alright, and had the only pretty eyes and lips available, but she didn't look exactly pretty to me. Which is appropriate for Shepard, but I'm just surprised at the word.

A couple of tweaks (major tweaks) would turn her into a bombshell. xD

Maybe it's just me but I don't get it. You customize the character so what does it matter what the default looks like? Not to mention in DA:O you had a number of presets to choose from, don't see any reason why that would change for DA: 2, maybe I'm just clueless
It's the same reason people care what the guy in the blur trailer looks like. Fans of the female pc just want her to have an awesome 'marketing' depiction even if Bioware rarely use female pc's for marketing purposes. Not to mention some people are so impressed by the look of Garrett Hawke they are considering playing through without customising him, naturally fans of Lady Hawke want her to look just as good.

Actually, my general Shepard face revolves around her same eyes and lips, so they sort of all resemble each other. At least in the first game.

Also, Sheploo has facial perimeters that are impossible to mimick with the CC. He has a very unique face; I would like to know what Lady Hawke's face looks like because of what Apollo said, and because it might be completely unique.

That's a good point, judging by what John Elper said about spending more time on the female character model (or something along those lines) it's not unreasonable to think that both defaults might have unique faces this time around too.

Attractive is by far the most nonsensical word in the English language. Everyone means something different by it. So whether or not someone is refering to facial features, or body type, or a combination of both, or something else entirely is never actually clear.

That said, I agree...she's not at all pretty.
Honestly, I'm not quite sure what all the hubbub is about in regards to the default character appearance. I can't recall ever not customizing my appearance in a game that allowed it (though I will admit, I find default MaleHawke much more appealing than any other default character I can imagine.)
