Make Garrett Hawke Canon!

David Gaider said he wanted Dragon Age to have a recognizable protagonist. Why not just make him the canon character and dump the character creator altogether? They could spend the development money on more content/dialogue instead and make the story richer.
DAO was our chance to make our own characters so why not make DA2 officially about Garrett?

You could still pick different choices and romances, etc.nhsk wrote...
Replay value would drop to about 1 playthrough for me, no thanks.

Garret Hawke is the Default Hawke, just like Sheploo

There should be a canon, or else things will get too complicated down the line. If they do a DA3 for example, they'd have to include your world shaping decisions from DAO and DA2, which means they have to plan for a ton of variables.DarthCaine wrote...
No, there should never be a canon in DA or ME. It will totally ruin everything
This way the game would be more streamlined, which means we can get more sequels out of the series. Even KOTOR has a canon story.

Garrett Hawke isn't going to be made canon. You can PM or e-mail any dev you want.

LOL! You think that's a good thing?DarthCaine wrote...
ME doesn't have a canon and there's 3 standard games, 1 spin-off, 3 books, 2 comics and it works. They simply ignore stuff from the games and don't mention them

Yes, imposing a canon would make a LOT of people angry. What would be the point in choices if there's a canon!? It'll just be another crappy action adventure game.Taint Master wrote...

And besides, there's a lot of people that prefer to play as a female

Actually the new book revealed Canon. I dunno the details but people are raging the most over how Udina is councilor and Anderson is admiral.DarthCaine wrote...

I support the idea of having Hawke be the poster-face like Shepard. I don't support the idea of removing character customization.
BTW: If Bioware can make Hawke to fantasy games what Revan is to anything sci-fi then they have already more than earned their place alongside Warhammer and Warcraft in lore.

People didn't get mad over Revan being light-side. ALOT of women did get mad that Revan was a confirmed male. They got so mad that the Exile in KOTOR 2 was female. And that made alot of male players mad because the female version had even more bugs than the male version.Taint Master wrote...

Point is: yes, people got mad with Lucas Arts:pinched: Revan had a mask for a reason Maker-damn them!

Yep. The Podcast... and I believe the gamers would have seen the name on all the conventions the game was shown/played.StarMarine wrote...
Is there any actual proof that the default name will be Garret?
And no, I am not making him Cannon. Mainly because that would mean I couldn't play as the female role, which I want to. And even if I could, Marian is a horrible name for a female, at least in my country.

Uh, yeah they did. In any case, removing the choice of playing as a female would be a terrible idea. I don't mind having a set character in DA2, but I would mind not being able to choose the character's gender in a BioWare game.Taint Master wrote...

Why? If Hawke is male, that's just part of the character. Like I said in the OP, DAO was our chance at making our own characters. Bioware could make Garrett the new face of DA and the games that come later.swirlwind wrote...

Garrett is already the face of DA2, and I'm fairly sure BioWare isn't just going to make a series out of that character. They've already stated that they're interested in exploring the whole of what Thedas has to offer, and I'm betting there's a lot more to the world than one Garrett Hawke.Taint Master wrote...

There are a lot of games out there where you have to play a male protagonist, whether you want to or not. BioWare is one of the exceptions to this rule. I understand you don't care about playing a female, but a lot of other gamers out there do, including myself. BioWare has always been about great stories and giving the player choices in those stories. I see no reason for them to change something that they excel in, and that gamers love.
