Honestly I don't know why this thread is still going. Using conjecture to try and figure out how long a good game "should" take to develop is a little futile to me. Especially when you consider that it IS possible to make time consuming processes more efficient and therefore take less time to complete.
Yeah, sure, right... and then release a fully tested bug free game!
You don't shoot a sequel unless the first movie did well at the box office. Unless you're a crazy mofo like P. Jackson. Then you make all 3 at once! You also only deliver the can to the publishers like 1 hour before the deadline expires! And after you win a Best Movie Oscar for the third part (plus almost all the other Oscar awards actually), you still shoot some extra scenes for an extended edition DVD!
This talk about DA2 being in development before Origins was released... it doesn't sound right. It might be already a project but in fully development? And for the "possibilitty of making time consuming processes more efficient and therefore taking less time to complete"... It was vastly demonstrated with the very fast patching and fixing of all Origins issues. Oh and how 1.03 greatly improved from 1.02 too. And then it only took them some 6 months to release 1.04
