I had been playing ME1 on my computer, but due to an unrelated problem I had to restore the PC to its factory settings. Before I did this, I uninstalled the game, and chose to keep my save files. I copied the save folder, with the .masseffectsave and profile files (the one in bioware/mass effect/) to an external hard drive. After my computer finished with the restoration, I reinstalled ME1 and looked for a save folder to copy the files into, but alas I could not find any such save folder.
What am I doing wrong? Is there a save folder somewhere that I just can't find or do I have to do something else with those save files to get my old profile?

Anybody? If I'm an idiot and there is actually a save folder somewhere then feel free to call me an idiot, but also please do tell me where to find it.
Thanks.
Thanks.

the save folder is placed in the "MyDocuments" folder of your windows profile.
You'll find it in the path MyDocuments/Bioware/Mass Effect

Thanks. I didn't even think of looking there. For some reason I was sure it would be in program files.

You're welcome. It's quite a common mistake.
