I wish I could understand why so many dislike Jowan's voice.

It sounds kind of whiny. Which is probably what Gaider was going for. Because Gaider called Jowan whiny. I sympathize with Jowan though.

I wonder if location might be a factor in their casting choices?

Nick Boulton and Peter Bramhill are London-based voice actors.  Just speculating here, but there may be scheduling / availability / ease-of-use issues with using a Londoner as opposed to using a transplanted Brit VA based in Los Angeles or Edmonton.

@Kamensky, there's always the possibility of having someone over at the studio direct the recording sessions... or, of course someone from CA flying over there to get it done... esp. if many of the other voice actors are english as well

So the voice actor did an excellent job. What's the big problem?

Re-posting this here from the Hawke thread. List time! (Edit: Unlike the list above this is just people I thought could be considered unpopular)

Disliked Origins folks: [list][*]Cailan/Peter Bramhill (for Calla! Although I'm not sure he was unpopular was he?)

I know of a lot of people who disliked him. Intensely, actually. He's one of those characters you either love or hate with every fiber of your being, I've noticed. I'm not getting my hopes up, of course (LIE), but.. I think it'd be a great choice. :3

Keep in mind that he only said unpopular, which could mean that he didn't have any "I love _______" threads; not that he was hated.

well, somebody  looked a lot like the figurative kid in the cookie jar, when one of the names already stated in this thread fell during a press screening in cologne...
but of course that's by far not an official confirmation... even if one were to think hundreds of people who already played it were halfway deaf...

I actually looked him up outside of Dragon Age ...
It might work. He does have a softer voice though *when it's not, ya know, monotone*. But I only heard him speak two lines in, what I assume is, his normal voice.
I kinda doubt it's him. I mean, there were many, many male characters in Dragon Age ...

For all we know, the VA is the guard in front of Haven!

I'm guessing that someone in this thread guessed correctly, that's just a guess though.

The thing is, he ALWAYS sounded whiny. The guy had no range, from what I could tell. He had multiple parts in the game and he used the same exact voice for all of them.

I'm still holding out hope for Nicholas Boulton (Bann Vaughan). This clip sounds great.

Ah yes, the good old 'I know something you don't, but I just can't tell you' gambit. We have dismissed that claim. :D

The voice acting that bothered me the most in DA:O actually came from the child who lost his mother in Lothering. He was standing right by the bridge in Lothering, just before you cross into the area with the pub.

That whine+ accent when he cried "Mother!" for the first time- I actually had to pull my headphones off of my ears and just read the subtitles. It was like someone had taken an ice pick and rammed it right through the delicate tissues of my ear.

"Muvvah!! ... Av you seen mouy muvvah?"

If I had to guess Hawkes V/A I'd go with the actor who played Cullen.

As if children truly take notice of how annoying or squealing they sound when their mother is lost and probably raped and killed.

I understand that the Voice Acting is supposed to be realistic. It is not, however, supposed to make me want to shut the game down and never play it again. Particularly when that same voice shows up more than once- I believe the VA who did the kid in Lothering also did the ghost child in the Werewolf Lair.

Making a voice irritated, upset, or even whiny can be done without grating on the eardrums like nails on a chalkboard. It isn't necessary, nor appreciated.

I have reservations about Cailan's VA. I mean, would he be successful at making Hawke sound...you know...manly? It'd be irritating if Hawke sounded like a sissy.
