I understand that the Voice Acting is supposed to be realistic. It is not, however, supposed to make me want to shut the game down and never play it again. Particularly when that same voice shows up more than once- I believe the VA who did the kid in Lothering also did the ghost child in the Werewolf Lair.
Making a voice irritated, upset, or even whiny can be done without grating on the eardrums like nails on a chalkboard. It isn't necessary, nor appreciated.
They can't please everyone.

oh what the hell. in the demo (on the public floor) he sounded a lot like boulton.
Looking at his bio on imdb, the extensive BBC radio work etc. would suggest that he might have the range to pull it off.
I knew I'd dig it out of you...

I so second that! During 2/3rds of the press demo (where i didn't hear him officially, only while playing on the showfloor... *cough*) I was inwardly drooling :innocent:Bella Stiletto wrote...

The voice acting that bothered me the most in DA:O actually came from the child who lost his mother in Lothering. He was standing right by the bridge in Lothering, just before you cross into the area with the pub.
That whine+ accent when he cried "Mother!" for the first time- I actually had to pull my headphones off of my ears and just read the subtitles. It was like someone had taken an ice pick and rammed it right through the delicate tissues of my ear.
If I had to guess Hawkes V/A I'd go with the actor who played Cullen.
The problem with that guess is that Cullen's VA is Greg Ellis, who also did Anders, and Anders is popular.
I'm liking what I'm hearing about Hawke sounding like Boulton. I mean, even if it's not actually him, that sounds a-ok to me.

lol think it's more the stigma from the charecter than any knocks against Boulton, 10 seconds into DA2 and no one'll care anywho

Remember ME1? As soon as Kaidan Alenko opened his mouth, the forums were filled with outraged "OMG It's CARTH!!!" postings, and poor Kaidan was instantly labeled as a whiny mistrustful bastard. For ages on the forums, the only reason I could see for people to dislike him was because he was "Carth". Not saying that will happen here..... OTOH I had every reason to dislike Doctor Bastilla's mother...

thankfully it's in the player's hands to either make Hawke a f***ing bastard like Vaughan in Origins or a sweet and nice guyMcCreath wrote...

I like him, he's especially good at playing slightly crazy, morally ambiguous characters. Plus, his accent rocks!

Wait, you're kidding me? The Warden was voiced by Badger from Firefly? That is so freaking awesome my head hurts just thinking about it. Mark Sheppard to voice a character in DA2! Oh and Anarya, I agree, he was brilliant in BSG too.

I know, it blew my mind when I found out. He sounded just like Philip Glenister.

But when I heard this I suddenly got the idea of Micheal Bolton..... I don't even want to know what you what Boulton you were referring to, but, if you're going to make fun of my reference, at least be.... original with the humor...

As long as we have the option of Michael Bolton hair, then the voice can be anything. The Director wrote...

But seriously, though, the Boulton they're referring to is Nicholas Boulton, who did the voice of Vaughan Urien. He seems to be many people's favorite for voicing Hawke. After hearing Hawke speak at PAX, I am totally convinced it is him.
