You need to pick your sources better.

Obviously I do, next time I will indeed read about it more. But tell me, if my assumptions as they were was wrong, why then are there as said so many "doomsayers" pointing the finger at dragon age 2?
Because the doomsayers have always existed and always will exist on these boards, they tend to be the same four-five people though.

A lot of people like Scott Pilgrim. Does that mean it is a good movie? No, but it does not make it a bad movie, either (at least in a subjective context). Art is subjective.

Not true.
1. "Doomsayers" are a relatively new event in gaming history. Trust me, I was posting on boards when you had a 1200baud modem and the person you were talking with was Sid Meir or Brian Reynolds. They exist because the industry is in a slide, increasing in speed as demonstrated by a host of reports, caused by the industry doing nothing but releasing sequels and turning every game into a Shooter. It's a big red flag people are tired of it, as if the months of sliding numbers for the industry wasn't enough.
2. I haven't posted on a Bioware board since the ramp into Baldur's Gate 2, but I'll guarantee you'll label me as a "Doomsayer!". Truth is though, I've read the articles and watched sales figures. Doesn't take much analysis to tell where this is going. Especially if you do your diligence and catch the fires popping up in regards to the game news industry. There's only one place this goes.
People can do the math now, or they can do it in ~24 months (Which should be right about when we hit complete collapse). Either way is fine with me, it's pretty much unstoppable at this point.

This is true also. We're seeing an entirely new generation being born, and a whole new batch of self-entitlement being thrown around.

Really? I remember a clutch of doomsayers kicking around before NWN1 was released. And as it happens they were right about some stuff.

I'd keep it up, but I figure someone else wants to play.
Err in most of those games you have a lot more control over who you are, sure you may not be able to choose where you come from but you do get to choose who you are, however in Mass Effect you are always Shepard and in Dragon Age 2 you are always Hawke and you are constantly being reminded of that.
I do the point you are trying to make that a lot of RPGs force you to play pre defined characters (A much better example would have been the final fantasy series) however I do (and I assume the OP does as well) prefer to play games where they give you more control over who you are, Bioware used to offer games like this however not anymore.
Also the Nameless One is a far different kettle of fish to a character like Shepard. To tell the story that was told in Planescape Torment they had to have a fixed character, the Nameless One's background and appearance were closely tied to the story and it made for a much deeper and much better story. However having a predefined character in Mass Effect really diddnt do much for me and the only real effect it had was to allow NPCs to call your character Shepard and constantly remind you that you were playing someone elses character.
As I have said before I dont mind playing predefined characters if it makes for a better story however if it is just like Mass Effect I really dont see why they bother.

It is obvious what you have done Bioware, you have sold out all pc players in favor for console players.. For the sole reason that the winnings marginale is much higher for console games due to the outrages prices charged for them..
Not to mention all customization is still there, the only thing they took away is race selection.
Origins were removed as well, though that's a natural progression from the removal of the races. The Origin stories still were among--if not THE--best part of DAO, though.
It is kinda funny that BioWare is going through all this effort to give each race and gender within that race, their own animation rig, and now we can't flippin' enjoy them because Hawke is human.

I would like to provide you with a quote by Friedrich Nietzsche.
He who fights monsters should see to it that he himself does not become a monster.
You have to understand, my dear fellow, that we forumites have become quite nervous recently because of the unfathomable amount (seriously, you have no idea how many) of doomsayer/troll/ignorant posts and threads that have popped up since DA2 was announced. Thus, when someone FAILS TO GET THEIR GODDAMNED FACTS STRAIGHT (see, even a collected person like me is hard-pressed to keep his cool), we just sort of jump at their throat. We are not trolls, but weeks of dealing with them have made us, for an outsider, exteriorly similar to them.

The only difference is that you are human and that is for things like Bethany being your human sister.
It isn't the end of the world.
And the OP is a goober... nuff said.

Why don't add the opportunity of choice race and live an origin story like dao? Why a beautyfull and deep game like dragon age must be LIMITED at one playable race? This is a true backstep from DAO

Is there some absolute reason why Hawke can only be human? I mean why can't the champion of Kirkwall be elvan or dwarven? I still can't understand why you just have to play as a human even accepting the fully voiced aspect of the game. I really want to like this game but I feel let down by what I've read so far.
Because Elves and Dwarves are American. Humans are British. It'd mean they'd have to hire more voice actors for Hawke.

because:
1. If people have to react differently depending on your race and origin it gives less time and money over to make them react differently depending on choices. Especially with your pc being voiced and having different voices when doing things with different personalities (was a thread about that somewhere)
2. Your sister who most likely will play a huge part in the story is a mage and dwarves can't be mages.

Bioware wanted to write a story about humans. There really isn't much more to it.
