Photobucket is apparently extremely unreliable. The gif is too big for imageshack, though. Any other place?

Tinypic? Also, you should give the .gif to me, so I can do things with it. :wizard:

Nope, they don't let you register...

Here are some I found:

Upload Geek, Upload House (2.0 MB limit), ImageHost.org (100MB limit).

Thanks.

Save and do whatever with it if you want.

Some people like Varric and want him as a love interest. Like Calla said, she's protecting her man.

Okay, I need help with something that has been bothering me for a while. I was wondering, why do people sometimes add in exclamation points after specific words like "Male" or "Female" or "F" or "M" - for example "Fem!Hawke" or "M!Shep"?

In my experience, it's basically a different type of shorthand to denote a specific state or mindset of a character. More widely used in fandoms with a large number and variety of fandom circles, like Harry Potter. It can function as a keyword/warning system, too. Say there was this story:

Harry Potter and the Pillars of Storgé
An ancient spell goes awry, and Harry and Draco are magically bonded! Also Draco is the Heir of Ravenclaw and Slytherin! Full summary inside.
Contains Angsty!Harry, Veela!Draco, leather pants.

The "Angsty!Harry" and "Veela!Draco" invoke fandom tropes. People who want to read about Draco as a Veela will know this story contains it, while people who do not want to read a story with Veela!Draco can avoid it. Same with Angsty!Harry, or say, F!Hawke.

In discussion F!Hawke is basically another way of saying LadyHawke.

This is for the moderator. This is a thread about fun and loving guesses about what lady hawke might look like.

I don't want a fan art thread I want a thread where I can talk about how we aren't getting equal representation and what a bad marketing move that is.

Your closing the equal representation thread whether intentional or not indicates a lack of respect for your female fans.

Then ask a mod to allow you to make a thread discussing it, and explain the differences. ^_^

I tried that and they closed that as well

I am now chatting with the second mod, but so far he has been more than a little aggressive.

The whole thing is giving me (an extremely avid bioware fan) a real feeling that my money and evangelical marketing of their product is not only unappreciated, but unwanted.

What is it about the concept of equal marketing that makes the males on this forum so upset?

Guys care to explain?

It's the perceived accusation of sexism. A lot of guys either don't realize when they're feeding into a sexist system or behaving sexist themselves. So when someone points it out, it tends to rile us up, especially if we feel we aren't behaving that way.

I really don't see Bioware as not respecting their female fans... The mods are used to having to deal with 'spam' threads and even just threads that are discussing the same topic as one already open. They try to keep the threads to a minimum for a reason, and they are well aware this thread has been used for discussing equal representation amongst many other Lady Hawke related things so they directed you here. Maybe you havn't noticed but a lot of the character related threads around here end up turning partly into fan art threads because the fans are so passionate about the game they want to express it through art. That hardly means you can't discuss your issues that relate to Lady Hawke here, in fact I would welcome it personally. It keeps awesome threads like this alive.

Edit: Bit harsh to lump all the 'males' on the forum under one banner. I'm a guy and I support Lady Hawke over Garrett Hawke as well as pushing for a return to a marketing strategy that shows off both male and female player characters for Bioware's games. There are some idiots on this forum it's true, but there are plenty of others like me as well.

ok, I'll give it a shot.

If you are talking about Lady Hawke, this is the thread to do it. Yes it is filled with fan art and talking about looks, but this is obviously going to be the thread where they announce/show Lady Hawke. If you are talking about equal representation in video games, either in marketing or in game, then that can be considered off topic as it is more video games in general than DA2, even though DA2 is an example.

Anyway, this has pretty much become the unofficial Lady Hawke thread to talk about Lady Hawke and wishing to see her in marketing, which has become a fan art thread. Initially, this thread was about Lady Hawke being portrayed, which is Dragon Age marketing.

So, if you wish to discuss Lady Hawke being marketable, here is the thread to do it, if you just want to talk about females being marketed in video games, that can be considered off topic and not Dragon Age 2 related.

What I do not understand then is why there are multiple threads allowed about male hawke but only one about female hawke?

And my concern is with DA2

Many Women missed out on DA:0 (myself almost included) because they thought it was anothe male centric hack and slash.  This was also the case with ME2 and ME1 if I had not been encouraged by male players to play.

To me that is a concern specifically with DA2 that women be informed they can play as well.

I'm a longtime female fan of Bioware and I don't think they brush us off. To the contrary, I think they do more for us than most. Rare is the game where you can play as a not scantily clad, assertive but not ****y, smart, and reasonable woman yet you can do that very thing in all their games. I've seen lots of polls that seem to suggest something like a third of the people on these forums are women. That's a pretty big chunk of your audience to alienate unnecessarily.

I do agree their marketing makes no sense, but then I think their marketing makes no sense on multiple levels. The fact that they use "iconic" male characters is a just a drop in the bucket there. I just ignore their marketing out of hand because it just baffles me, but I will say this. If they are looking to attract new female gamers, I don't think the marketing they currently use will do it. Most female gamers of Bioware games I know were not drawn to them by marketing but rather through word of mouth or something similar. If all I had to go on for ME2 for instance had been the trailers and screenshots of Sheploo, I would not have been interested except in a cursory way. I guess they are going with the theory that the diehard female RPG fans know about them already, and that female gamers who play action/shooter titles won't be turned off by the marketing as those genres are normally dominated by male imagery anyway so they are accustomed to it. Frankly, I think the use of an "iconic" figure in a game based around designing your own character is both misleading and silly, but then I know nothing about marketing so maybe I should just shut up.

I imagine that happens a lot with rpgs. The effort to make them appeal to the largest perceived gamer market (teen males) makes them hype up the action and violence sequences. This has the nasty effect of giving everyone the wrong impression of what the game is actually about and turning off players who might be interested in what the game actually is.

Plenty of guys play games where women are the main character, why do some women have a problem with a male as the main character? That's just sad.

And I don't notice many threads on male hawke. So far, I only notice the one. Maybe a beard thread here and there, which can be the same as the ponytail.

Anyway, Female hero being marketed sounds great, certainly it was Leliana who got the most attention out of the Sacred Ashes trailer. If people miss out because they don't wish to find information for themselves, oh well. If a "hack n slash" or fantasy rpg intrigues them, they should check it out and not discount it merely because there is a dude on the cover.

Edit: If you mean the "versus" threads, thats just about the Hawke in the trailer who happens to be a guy, its not about him being a guy. You could add lady hawke vs whoever on those threads as well.

THey should really do a line in the middle showing the face of male hawke and female hawke saying Rise to power.
Of course the trailer would have to have male hawke start fighting then it slowly transitions during the fight to female hawke in a way that says you do not transform into a man or woman but you can be both.

I am the "mod" being talked to (and apparently being hostile, although I fail to see how. I thought we were both being pretty civil). Just so you know, I am not just "a mod" I am BioWare's Community Coordinator and I run these forums. I think if you are going to be chatting with me and reporting on what I say here, you should know who you are chatting with. :)

As I said in the private messages, we close ALL threads on the same topics. If a thread on, for example, Hawke's shoes is open and has 10 pages of boot vs. sandal discussion and someone else starts a thread saying "I hope Hawke wears boots in DA2", we close it and direct people to the already in existance thread. If someone is talking in generalities where the actual topic is not identical or similar enough to warrant closing, it is left open. This is done at the judgement of staff and moderators. We make mistakes and, depending on how fast threads move between pages, miss some threads. We cannot be everywhere all the time and rely on our friendly and helpful community to point out issues like this. I have yet to see any complaints or questions as to why "Y" thread was not locked when "X" is still open with actual threads. If you have them, please send them to me in a PM (not here as I do not want to further derail this thread).

For the record: BioWare GREATLY values it's female gaming audience. It also values it's male gaming audience who prefer to play female PCs. Just because you have yet to see a video with female Hawke (I do think 5 days after the first trailer of any sort may be a touch soon for complaints, but I know you are passionate for it, so I understand) does not mean that we do not care.

What are you talking about? That isn't the case at all. We don't have problems playing as male characters. What we're arguing is that there are so many video games where you can only play as a male that it would be nice to see a female used in advertising for a game where you can play as a female. How many games have male protagonists? The vast majority of them do, and females still play them. Is it really so bad to want to play as a kickass female main character who isn't half naked and mostly there just so guys can ogle at her?

Someone in the Gamescom impressions thread got a good look at Lady Hawke and said she perfectly matched their idea of what she should look like. I asked them if they could post a more detailed description here but thought I'd give the heads up just in case!

Can't wait to see her!
