Gay romance just takes the silly girl out of the picture and leaves you with two bodies your attracted to. I think that is true for how men see lesbian, and there are enough of those in your games already.

Well since we are on about this lately, it's you're not your attracted to :)

And I think you meant Diapers not bodies?  Finally, I call fake.  I've never met a woman in my life who likes gay pr0n, diapers or not.  In fact this came up recently w/ a female friend who is a fellow True Blood fan.  The Eric gay seduction storyline in her opinion is a "waste".

I'm not saying it's impossible, but I'm going to bet monopoly dollars that you are not a RL female.  I could be wrong, but that's why it's gambling.

Actually, I do have a female friend that think gay sex is all the...hm, rage? I suspect that she watch more gay porn per day than Zevran would watch in his entire life. However I know some girls that glare at me with rage and hate in her eyes if I ever dare to say that a good-looking man/boy is gay.

Perhaps a compromise: Characters like Alistair who by design are more attracted to women than men can be easier for female PCs to romance, while male PCs would have to get extra approval or take very specific dialogue choices to make the relationship possible.

This was done extremely well with Leliana: as a male Warden all you had to do was get her to +10, ask about the cloister, and flirt with her a bit and she'd become "interested". But for females, you had to get her approval up then go back to camp, where she would initiate a female-only dialogue about your hair, and you would have to pick *that ONE DIALOGUE CHOICE* to make her "interested" and open up the relationship.

This way if writers make a character and say "I bet this guy is into men" they can still let females romance him if they try really, really hard.

Same thing for women: even if they prefer men, you could have a world-view changing sidequest/conversation with her that makes her open to romance with a female PC.

I like that it's kinda realistic in the sense that NOT everyone is gay/bi.

Sometimes you want someone and you just can't have him, that's how it is :)

Er. I think you should reconsider that bet after googling 'yaoi' and 'slash fanfiction'.  Different women have different tastes, evidently, but there are plenty who think one guy = good, two guys = better.

Anyway, I am a woman and I like gay porn - both the slash/yaoi kind and the live action variety that's really aimed at gay men.

Having all romance options be bisexual is terribly unrealistic. Some people are just straight and that's that. Nothing you do can change their sexual orientation- that's just part of who they are.

That being said, it would be neat for there to be more romance options overall, gay/bisexual included. But being able to "unlock" a gay romance in a straight character is absurd.

True, but we are talking about a fantasy game.  Not sure how relevant "realism" by our standards applies. Well the only say that matters in the end is the developers/writers. :)

I actually kind of like that I (virtually) yearn for Alistair but can't (virtually) have him. Does that make me unhealthy? Self-tormenting? Doomed?

Well, yes it does. And yet.

This wouldn't make logical sense,as 1) every character would ahve to be romanceable, which never happens. 2) Its supposed to have a sense of realism attatched to the romances (aka--not everyone considers themselves bi 3) They'd have to do the exact same thing for femHawke. Thats a lot of romance writing.

At least the OP focused on the "Everybody is bi" trope and not the "Anything that moves" trope.

This^^ although I do think it would be interesting to have a character who wasnt yet aware of his interests until he met Hawke?

I'm all for including gay LI's, but having EVERY character be bisexual just wouldn't be realistic. Including a select few party members to be romancable by both genders adds to the depth of the story, but making it that way for everyone could very possibly take away from it. Sexual preference is a huge factor in every aspect of who a person is. It was simply not an aspect Kaiden's/Alistair's created personalities.

That'd certainly be an interesting romance! Having that for one LI would be really cool.

The problem with making a character exclusively gay or making all of the characters bi is that most people won't take advantage of the opportunity. A tiny portion would use it. It's hard to justify devoting so much time, money, zots to something only a few people will use.

Of course, problem fixed if you just add an achievement for it. :P

You know, it would be cool to see a gay-only character--especially with the hints we've been getting about romancable NPCs in the world, as opposed to just your party members.

I would work my rear off for that achievement!

But yes, I am ans still will eb disappointed in Zevran as a gay choice.  Ugh he seriously rubs me the wrong way.

Here's hoping for a decent M/M pairing.

I like it, I watch it and I read it.  No joke.  Same thing as my husband like F/F stories and videos.  Nothing wrong with it.

That's what great with choices.  No one is being forced to do it (and really am getting tired of people who think they are .. just don't go down that route!)

This isn't good enough. I am straight, but I like to play homosexuals, who act like they are straight people, but have love interests that are straight, but act like they are gay.

I am not sure what I just said, but do it now Bioware!

Again, I just really would like some more options. I don't think having more options is a bad idea. Not everyone has to be open to relationships, and I would like to see difficulty in getting with certain characters. Kritanakom had a really good idea, I think, and that is what I'm talking about! Having certain characters swing one was primarily, but after getting even 100% love score with them they will finally open up to a different sex.

I know not everyone should be Bi, true, but I would love more then just Zevran.

As for me being a girl, I think it's a bit hurtful that you would question that Haexpane, I thought we were over this whole "Girls play video games too?!" phase. As for my love of Gay sex... well go to Yaoi-con and tell me that girls don't like seeing two men in romantic situations. I like love stories, I like men, and I like men in love with other men. Doesn't mean I like every pairing, but generally I do.

I really hope that Bioware chooses to do a M/M and F/F only story line, if their not going to open up for everyone as I've said before.

Thanks for all the great posts, and support for the Gay, Lesbian, and Bi, storylines. ^_^

I second this - its amazing to see a thread talking about same sex couples that doesn't end up being awful within about 4 posts ;)

I'll also add my voice to wanting more options for gay characters. I actually really like Zevran, but as a gay guy who quite likes being able to play as a character thats a gay guy ,it would be nice to have more than one option for the sake of replays if nothing else.

In terms of making every one bi (although OP has made clear she didn't mean literally everyone), might not be all the believable - but that said, i think ME2 pushed things just as far. Garrus anyone? Gender is too big a thing to get passed but sex with a reptile looking alien? No biggie.[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/whistling.png[/smilie]

Everyone bi? No. Maybe additional bi or gay only characters? Fine. Doesn't really interest me, but I don't see why not as long as it makes sense in terms of story and character.

I can see some context for bi characters; it was reasonably well-justified with Zev and Leliana.  With the asari and Kelly...well, they just love everyone.  With the Jade Empire same-sex LIs, it felt like it was just kinda tacked on there.

The one place where I could've seen them making characters bisexual was with some of the more "alien" LIs in Mass Effect 2, specifically Garrus and Tali.  Tali actually had dialogue for it.  Garrus makes some comment about how he's not attracted toward humans per se--just Shepard.  Not only is that incredibly adorkable, it applies equally well to male or female Shep.
