i understand what you are saying but there has to be a reason why ME 2 has so many un used audio

Pick one or more of the following:

1. Time constraints
2. Budget constraints
3. Scene ran a bit too long
4. Couldn't find a good place to fit a scene in with all the other scenes about the same thing
5. Scene just didn't work
6. Bug/Glitch/Screw-up
7. For codex entries, they rewrote the lore
8. They decided to save it for later, and expanded, use, either in DLC or in a sequel.
9.  Character/Gameplay changes required now-contradictory dialogue to be dropped.
10. They just felt like it for some unspecified reason falling under the general category of "Them creative-types are kinda picky like that"
11.  They decided not to just outright state things in expository dialogue, preferring to go with implying them instead.

and yes:

12. Space limitations

Oh, and:

13-???: Any number of other reasons that didn't occur to me while making this list.

In any case, I see nothing unusual about this stuff's existence.  Think of how much footage that was shot from other angles never makes into the final edit of movies or TV shows.  Then think of all the script changes that happen in both.  Then there's all those deleted scenes we get on the DVDs that were fully-shot and edited, possibly even with SFX completed.  Similar things happen with novels and short fiction and plays, et cetera. Waste (or whatever you want to call it) is just part of the process for any sort of narrative form, and it can't all be blamed on one single factor like running time or DVD size or whatever.

Also, it may seem like a lot, but it's really not.  Trust me: compared to all the audio that's in the game, these files don't add up to much, either in total length or number.  Including all the combat-only dialogue, there's around 33,000 audio files (more if you add in the music, of course).  This stuff?  I haven't been counting, but I'd be surprised if it were more than 2 or 3 hundred files.  500 at the very outside (which result I would find very surprising).  Nearly everything I've thought was unused has actually turned out to be in the game, and I simply hadn't triggered it due to not picking the right conversation options or the like.

Any chance you can check on Jacob's stuff, and see if he actually says anything besides cheesy lines? Like does he actually tell you what's bothering him, that he's willing to breakup with Shepard for bringing it up?

Didy, regarding Jacob, have you had any hint of a "loyalty conflict" between himself and Thane? Jacob gets quite pissy when Thane shows up on board, emphatically stating that he doesn't like mercenaries.

Felt like those feelings were going somewhere, but...

Nope.  Neither ever mentions the other, unless you're romancing them. If you annoy Jacob early on in the relationship, he'll petulantly suggest you give Garrus and/or Thane a shot, depending on who you've recruited at the time. Both will mention the other if you've been two-timing with them.  Jacob is a real ass about getting dumped in favor of Thane (and Garrus), too.

Actually, he's an ass in a lot of his romance dialogue. His perpetual petulance about practically everything was the only amusing part of verifying that all those romance lines were really used.  Not that Femshep came out of that one lookin' pretty either.  Pretty much a complete disaster for all concerned, including me for having to listen to that nonsense (and watch it).

So, the answer to the first part of this:

is: "Nope.  Cheese and whine is pretty much it."  The answer to the second part is also a negative.  Don't know what the hell his deal is.  If I were his VA, I'd be pretty pissed about getting stuck with that material.  Hope he was paid reasonably well, at least.

What kills me is that every squaddie has a sort of nickname that's used in config files and such, and an abbreviation based on it that's used for file names,  and Jacob's is "Leading Man".  Clearly, someone really thought he was gonna be the guy to romance in ME2 for Femsheps.  Just as clearly, that someone was on crack.

I think thane was pushed more as the leading man, Thane was seen all over promotion and is on game cover
Jacob didn't even get a fight for the lost trailer
Jacob honsetly seemed to be there as filler for 2nd squaddie till you recruited another i think he should have been killed off at horizion

It could have been innocuous too - i.e. he is the "leading man" because he's the only "man" (i.e. human male) that FemShep can romance.

I agree though, he's an ass and I don't see any FemShep looking at him seriously unless she really doesn't like aliens, and perhaps not even then. If he ends up being just as petulant/annoying in ME3, I'll replay ME2 just to get his head blown off. (Hey, he did volunteer - it's the perfect crime!)

As for the audio, I really like the "STFU Grunt" option =D

Nah.  Somebody really meant it, based on the other nicknames.  They're all rather utilitarian and straightforwarldly descriptive of what the squadmates are: "Thief", "Convict", "Mystic Warrior", etc.  Or in Tali and Garrus' cases, just their name.

Jacob and Miranda, on the other hand,  both have more "colorful" ones.  In her case, it's "Vixen".  There's also the both of them being singled out for special gameplay treatment: you don't have to unlock any of their non-loyalty powers and they both get an extra squad point.  They may have downplayed Jacob in the marketing as the release approached, but he was obviously intended to be a big deal in the beginning.   Oh, and he and Miranda got their own little game with (lame) tie-in content for ME2.

I think people asked you about this before, Didy, but what's your estimate on the amount of unused dialogue left? Someone suggested that Morinth has a buttload of unused lines, which may translate into another video of yours...

...but what's your take? You think we're finally starting to run out?

Personally, my theory with the "Grunt vs. Mordin" content being taken out is that someone pointed out during development that Grunt probably wouldn't give a **** about the genophage, given that he was tank-bred.

Just my opinion, of course.

Hard to be exact.  I'm still investigating suspects.  As a rough guess, given that almost all suspects so far have turned out to be "innocent", is that I've posted somewhere around half of it, in terms of running time.  But don't take that as an indication of lost content.  For example, I have a bunch of lines I've found for something I haven't edited together yet that are all of the squadmates saying almost exactly the same thing in response to seeing something, and then doing that again in response to something else a bit later in the conversation, and then yet again shortly after that.   The running time there adds up, but it's really just three lines, each of which lasts a couple seconds.  None of them contain anything of particularly great interest, either.  They're a lot like the interchangeable, generic comments people would insert into conversation in ME1, in fact.

I can tell you for certain, however, that Morinth does not have a lot of unused dialogue.  Two lines, 9 seconds total.

ETA:  Oh, and BTW, that ~50% I haven't posted?  It includes the stuff that's already known:  the Liara/Shadow Broker material and the fragments of the various same-sex romances.  In the latter case, it is of course exactly the same as the in-game dialogue, only recorded by Meer rather than Hale, or vice-versa.

I hope they release an Illusive Man's cut that has all this unnecessarily cut content put back in. Conrad especially, my goodie goodie Shepard would never threaten their number 1 fan with a gun.

Makes me suspect that part of the "Bonus Content" PS3 players may get is all this stuff because they're disc's have more space.  (Aside from the backstory explained and DLC already released stuff)

Only bits and pieces of them.  It looks to have been dropped early.  Pretty much all of the lines are from very early on in the romances affected.    And I doubt it was EA. For one, Bioware cut out MShep/Kaidan and FemShep/Ash from ME1 all without EA help.  For two, you're talking about the company that just released Dante's Inferno and has had same-sex content in the Sims for ages now. For three, overall, ME2 has much more explicitly adult content than ME1 did.
