I hope this doesn't sound like a whine. I loved DA:O and have completed 3 play throughs. I would love to see DA2 be the best game it can possible be and hope that this will be the case.
RADIAL MENU IMPROVEMENTS:
My main issue in DA:O was the mere 6 quickslots and the sheer clunkiness of the overloaded left trigger radial menu.
I would love to see the following changes:
- use both left and right triggers for radial menus, keeping the 3 face button quickslots
- let the position and selection of skills in those menus be completely user-assignable
- move poison/potion/trap crafting into the main menu - who needs quick access to this?
Personally I think you could fit 16 skills in each menu and it would still be highly useable. Testing might say otherwise.
TARGET SELF:
DA2 could really use an easy was to target self on consoles as well. Trying to use Force Field on yourself as protection on Xbox was next to impossible.
MARKING CODEX ENTRIES AS READ:
A comparatively minor niggle that I'm surprised DA:O, ME *and* ME2 all screw up is the handling of the codex entries. The way merely sweeping over something marks it as read makes it impossible to read new entries lower in a list without marking higher entries as read. It also makes it impossible to see which entry is new if it is below the viewable part of the list as scrolling down to it immediately marks it as read. A simple 3 second timer on marking something as read would fix this.
TACTICS:
The limitations, inconsistencies and omissions in DA:O's tactics system were pretty evident I think and deserving of a separate post. Having said that, I'm not gonna write that post because for all its annoyances, the tactics system was good enough to see my party through. Just don't dumb it down for DA2 please!
Looking forward to the next adventure!
