So, I love buying special and collector's editions of my favorite games if they have some great extras.  Lately, there have been some awesome packages put out by other gamemakers (like Call of Duty--nightvision goggles, RC spycar, etc).  So, I have been thinking about what the perfect bundle would be for ME3.

Limited edition controller, N7 helmet, Shepard action figure (or set of figures), replica weapon, mini-Normandy, making-of documentary, exclusive DLC, artbook, comic book, t-shirt, etc....

There are lots of options, but what do you think would make the perfect bundle?

Also, what do you think it should be called?  I thought the "collector's edition" for ME2 was very clever (given the main enemy of the game), but I wish there was a premium edition that included more collectables.  :)

Anyway, I'm hoping for an "N7 edition" that comes with a model Normandy... thoughts?

UPDATE:
I thought I should link a post by Chris Priestly, who noted that they were trying to do something with a limited edition ME3.  They were looking for ideas on an 'uber' edition, of sorts.  Basically, what do gamers want in a big fancy  (and expensive) edition of Mass Effect 3?  Here's the link: http://social.biowar...index/4589520/1

ME2 is the only Collector's edition game I've ever bought. I was pretty pleased with it, and would definitely consider forking out for a ME3 Collector's edition.

I don't like wastage, from an environmental point of view, so if there was too much plastic stuff like helmets, figurines, key-rings, etc. then that would actually put me off buying it. I guess if there was a really high quality model of a ship or something that could be pretty cool, but only if it was really cool looking and nicely detailed - not just collectables thrown in for the sake of collectables.

I'm all for art books, making-of docos, and exclusive DLC.

I'm curious how much people are willing to pay for a collectors/preorder edition.(OP create a poll :D?) With the ME2 one it was only $10 more than the standard, having only small extras that fit in the tin.

For ME3, if they had more stuff (eg. thicker artbook/coffee table bk and making of documentary) I'll gladly pay more for a collectors edition. (usual/standard price is about AU$120-130?)
giving people an idea of other gaming CE's (googled) 1| 2| 3| 4| 5| 6 | 7

I'd like a model of the Normandy 2.

Even if your have to build it yourself, although I'd prefer something like the metal ones airlines use for promotions (about the length of a forearm) and not something crappy quality one, like the batarang included with the Batman: Arkham Asylum collectors edition was.

I agree, the ME2 was only slightly more expensive than the retail version, and it felt it too. Depending on the quality of what was inside, I'd have no problem paying up to $150AUD or so. Though yeah, as long as the price was justified by quality and not just quantity. It's hard to match everyone's tastes, though. For example, I loved Fallout 3 and would have really enjoyed having the bobblehead, as that's a small but cool thing that I might actually keep on my desk, but I'd have no interest in the pipboy alarm clock or the lunchbox. I already have an alarm clock, and what the hell do I need a lunch box for? Who actually uses a lunch box? It'd be in the back of the cupboard within a month.

all I want is making-of commentary + a t-shirt (or other accessory) in the ME3 bundle (hopefully not a generic 'shepard image' or 'mass effect 3 logo' on the clothing...give me something like an image of the citadel or normandy SR2/3)

You can do it Bioware! I dont want any action figurines or spaceship models or helmets cos they are basically junk. Something useful like a piece of clothing (hat, t-shirt etc.) that I could wear and making-of commentary is enough (I LOVE making-of commentary, especially if its in-game dev com like u see in Valve games and Monkey Island 2: SE)

^you can buy the shirts from the bioware store and i don't think they should include apparel... i mean what if its not/theres none in your size?

edit: oh and add to my list a Soundtrack CD, (from ME1-3.) :D

@Stillwater. "yeah, as long as the price was justified by quality and not just quantity"
agreed. i don't want a whole bunch of 'junk'(lunchbox). what i meant was more beefier stuff. a larger art/coffee table book compared to the ME2 little book.(concept work/3D rendered etc)

Art book, a large and high-quality poster and/or t-shirt and an actual behind the scenes DVD. Sorry, but Mass Effect 2's bonus DVD was ridiculous to the point of being insulting. My friends thought it was a DVD collection of commercials... Plus a sturdier box, ME2CE is rather flimsy.

Best of all, soundtrack on an actual audio CD and not that MP3 ... that some claim has the quality of lossless audio.

Pretty much the same (content-wise) as ME2, but better in quality. And at the same prise. And no more of EA's stupid excuses that they forgot to add CN cards and pre-order DLCs for some regions, because people they are too stupid to know they existed, and the CE to ship on time.

A proper "Making of" bonus disc with a soundtrack and proper artbook.. (not those small ones) and a Normandy model like the one we got in ME2.. No point in having figures because you can buy them separately which would make a ME3 CE with a figure less interesting..

I'd like a Normandy model. Don't really care about the rest.

An N7 T-shirt would be nice too but the model would definitely have priority

For a start - how about next time, when they come up with some truly epic artwork, they put it on the steelbook case itself? Instead of just on the stupid cardboard sleeve.

Next, how about some worthwhile collectables? The tiny comic with the exclusive cover was kinda cool, but it had also been released in full-size format something like a month earlier. The artbook was tiny and short, the armour (while cool looking) didn't make much difference to the gameplay (see COD's RC bomb car).. And the bonus disk - for months the guys on the old forums were saying "we're still looking for stuff to squeeze onto the bonus disk...", in response to requests for gamer pics and part of the soundtrack, like ME1's SE had. And as the OP said, it was just a collection of adverts. Utterly pointless. And I'm struggling to remember, was there even anything else?

Bear in mind, for the US, it was just $10 more then the normal one. Which sounds reasonable considering what little you get. For us crazy foreigners, it was £54.99. The RRP for the normal one was £39.99, but if you preordered at Amazon you got it for £29.99. So we were asked to pay £15 to £25 more for those three crappy little bonuses, which comes out at around $23 to $38 more than the standard one.

Note the upcoming Halo Reach Collectors Edition, comes with a "hand written" leather bound journal from one of the in game characters. Looks pretty good quality, and sounds like an interesting read. That CE is also £54.99. I know which one sounds better value to me.

My main requests then for ME3's SE? Either more stuff, the same amount of stuff but actually decent, or a more reasonable price point.

Didn't have a 360 for either the ME1 or ME2 release, but now that I'm thoroughly entrenched in the series, being a collectibles/figure collector I'd be down for like a Garrus, Tali, or Wrex/Grunt Bust. Not huge 1:1 scale but more like 1:2 or 1:3. Those are just 3 of the more interesting/visually appealing characters that appear in the games.

what i want from ME2 is:

a large commemorative box (kinda like starcraft and the WoW collectors editions) containing, a thick 170+ page normal sized hardcover artbook, soundtrack, behind the scenes dvd, some ingame content (armor and a gun is fine), and 1 special thing.

for the special thing i'd have a few sugestions: miniature Normandy + stand, miniature citadel + stand, miniature reaper + stand, miniature mass relay + stand and it would be nice if the stand would act like a case in which to put the game box.

Someone posted a pic about a special ME1 edition a while back what included a T-Shirt, SR-1 Normandy keychain, mousepad etc., trying to find it atm.

A similar one would be awesome.

Edit: Well no pic yet, but here is the wikipedia entry.

CD Projekt, the Polish publisher of Mass Effect released a limited edition version. This edition features:
  • Game in two language versions: original English and full Polish
dubbing on two DVD discs. (Also features subtitles of the alternative
    language).
  • Documentary of making Polish version.
  • Instructions and a walkthrough in Polish.
  • Mass Effect themed postcards.
  • N7 T-shirt.
  • Artbook containing concept art from the game.
  • USB flash drive with Mass Effect logo.
  • Mouse pad with graphic of the Normandy.
  • Mass Effect key holder.
  • Box containing all elements.

well i own ME 1 & 2 CE but i must say in comparison to some others out there (Halo, Fallout 3, Starcraft 2) the content is disappointing

Digital content isnt a collectible !

Be it an t-shirt, usb flash drive, audio CD soundtrack!, key holder or the like, Collector Editions should be limited

A Metal Tin.

Galaxy map on clear plastic.

Model of the normandy.

Exclusive armour and weapons.

CD and MP3's of the soundtrack.

A notedpad, (like the one that came with starcraft, only mass effecty). Thought that was cool, because I never can find any paper.

Anything else above that would be even sweeter.

I'm a collectors edition addict. Slapped down my pre-order for COD Prestige edition (And I don't even own an Xbox!) a few days ago, and the CIV Limited Edition and hopefully Fable III as well.

C'Mon Publishers, let's see some full on editions for ME3. You know we fans are good for it.

Yeah, I just watched the DVD yesterday and it was pretty dissapointing.. roguhly 30 min. of commercials or other old videos from E3 or pre-E3 and a 24 minute "Making of" which looked like something that EA made for TV..

I was expecting some 1 or 2 hour long (the longer the better) Making of where I see people at their desks talking about the actual proces of creating the game.. how they came up with the design, what kind of problems they had, things like that that actually have something to do with the actual creation of the game.. and not some stupid 24 minute video where they seem to promote the game and don't even talk about anything that spoiler wise.. heck, I waitied until I beat the game to watch the DVD because I was afraid of spoilers and thats what I get? roughly 55 minutes of content and some wallpapers?

I seriously hope that BW makes a proper Making of for ME3... :(

Thats a cool idea, but I much rather
would see them sell those seperatelly.. chances are that they would
actually make all 3 of them and include each one with each version of
the game... aka, Garrus for 360, Tali for PC and Wrex for 360...

I have it when developers/publishers do something stupid like that.. :x

[edit] Another idea I had was for a little Galactic Codex book. Simply put, all the stuff that we can see in the game, but just in a nice little colorfull book with nice pictures and all.. kinda like that Dr.Journal that you got with the Batman:AA CE... Never had it bit it looked great.

ME2 CE is what not to do.

- FALLOUT3 CE (bobblehead, lunch box, other stuff)
- THE WITCHER Euro CE (oversized 200-page artbook, OST CD, 3-hour making of)
- ULTIMA IX DRAGON EDITON (cloth map of Britannia, poster, anhk pendant, OST CD and faux-leather booklets)

is the way to do it.

I always buy the CE (for games and BluRay) and am willing to fork anywhere up to a 50% markup for something really valuable; the DARK KNIGHT bike edition for example, or the BIOSHOCK Big Daddy.

Yeah, I created this to eventually to make a poll on different bundles
people wanted.  However, this is proving trickier than I expected since
everyone wants something different.  Who would have thought?  [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png[/smilie]  (jk)

So
what I'm hearing so far is people generally want more in the special
edition and will pay more for it (as long as it is quality).  Also, the
documentary must be better.  I cannot agree more!  I was
expecting a more in-depth making-of documentary and maybe a modified
form of director's commentary on the levels/plot/characters.  I don't
mind spoilers in the documentary as long as they caution us that it
contains spoilers and we should watch it AFTER we complete the game.

Also,
cheap plastic junk isn't what I want (and it appears that this opinion
is shared).  Collector's editions should contain quality collectables.
I am all for having a nice quality metal model of the Normandy SR2 (or whatever ship we use in ME3).

So the poll would contain:
So,
special editions should contain a great making-of documentary,
exclusive DLC, and collectable case/tin.  However, what else do you
want to see in a collector's edition of ME3?
-Quality metal model of Normandy
-Action figure of Shepard
-Model of a reaper
-T-shirt
-Quality art book
-Not much. I'd rather the special edition not be more than $10-20 than the standard

How does that look?  Should I change it up?

I can only speak for myself. I never buy any collectors addition stuff because I see them as gimmicks to spend more money on the product than you otherwise would have... but you know --- if fans want those products and the market is there, there's no problem with it at all... its just not my cup of tea.

Aside from that, if I were someone prone to buy those editions, I would think a Die-Cast model of the Normandy SR2 with a good display stand would most likely be something a fan would like.

Khayness, good luck with the Polish PC CE of Mass Effect. I've been searching for that thing a lot, and I'm from Southeastern Europe, so chances were I could get it more easily from Poland... er, sadly not. I've seen a couple on Ebay and they were just ridiculously prized.

Although that is what a CE should look like.
