If Bioware is going to continue to cesor sex scenes, I think they should do it like The Sims.

Characters should jump under the covers and giggling should ensue.
There should also be fireworks. Because when I have sex, there are always fireworks. Duh.

this made me lol a bit. :D

I'd be perfectly happy with something akin to Jade Empire's romance scene. It was simple and with no sex, but it was perfect, imo. I can't object to the idea of some of those intimate moments in the tent, though.
If it's going to be censored, I'm good as long as it's done well, not like DAO's underwear humping. And if it's going the more intimate path and ignoring those demanding ***** who act like their views are the only right thing, I'm good as long as it doesn't end up being a cheap porn film.

Does it, actually? If you recall, the US version of first Witcher was censored. Wait and see if the same doesn't happen to the sequel before you declare it as fact.

While it ultimately depends on the ESRB CD Projekt has made it clear that they intend to ship the US version intact.

And even if they don't we'll still have an uncensored version. I wouldn't mind seeing BioWare follow suit and release a censored version in the US but why punish the rest of us? PEGI is very accepting of nudity. Just imagine if you had to play every game following German censorship. Quite a headache, no?

full on sex scenes? they fade to black. not exactly a full on sex scene. of course, my experience is only with lelianna, morrigan, and the brothel. i don't know if female wardens get longer sex scenes.

After having awkwardly grinded up against each other with moany faces for a minute or so, yeah.

And did you seriously read any of the dialogue? It was so filled with brimming sexuality that it would put any horny teenager to shame.

We're discussing censorship, which I think is worth making some noise over.

people like to raise hell when it comes to nudity censorship like there's some core moral principle they are fighting for, when in reality, they want to see some T&A and are trying to find righteous ground to stand on.

I agree that censorship can be more than a little ridiculous at times, but so can waxing revolutionary about wanting naked characters in games.  :o

You are missing the point. A normal person who wants to see T&A goes to a club or visits the gazillion porn sites around the net; he doesn't play DA to see such things. I, as an aldult, feel mocked  to see censored david or weird  sex scenes in underwear (as I said I prefer fade to black tho).

At least what they showed. It was not a sexual situation, though, Geralt deals with to guards who are about to tortue a woman in a dungeon. She has her dress upper part to the waist. Full frontal was in TW1, the Dryads and some monsters (both male and female).

Meh, they answer to EA, and treat the American market as their primary.

alright yeah I get you.  I guess going to dragon age nexus and looking for mods to play has really jaded me when it comes to what people say they want and what they actually want in games; the top 11ty downloads have something to do with nudity, sex, or playing with make up and hair on female characters.  :o

It does. The preview at gamescon shows a woman chained to a wall and her blouse at her waste. No black bars over nipples.

There was also plenty of swearing alongside some more sophisticated dialog. classic Witcher.

Am I the only one who doesn't want to see full nudity? I see sex in games as lol in general, or (with some mods) awww-inducing. I don't play games feeling like oh yeah sexy time. I've seen the nude mods and they make me cringe.

With The Witcher 2 coming out with full frontal nudity are we going to see any improvement in this department or are we stuck with hilariously awkward sex scenes and surprisingly decent brothels? I must admit I was rather shocked to see Morrigan dress up instead of down.

It would be nice to know if we had more to look forward to than even more gratuitous fountains of blood.

I know when rockstar showed that  old dudes junk in grand theft auto lost and the damned there was alot of backlash  plus it was nasty games like Mafia 2 have 1950's playboy books you can find   but  i degress  there is a time and place for nudity its called the bedroom or nice medow down by the lake or in a elavator for the adventurous sort  ....Image IPB

Doesn't it strike censorship supporters as utterly contrived and stupid that Morrigan who never wears a bra suddenly wears one during the sex scene? BW really needs to stop being so self-conscious, because incidents like this just prove that they pander to emotional knee-jerk ballyhoo just for the sake of shutting it up, while paying customers, who should be the focus of their attention, hit that escape button from fear of trauma instilled by all the dry humping.

Exactly.  Censorship aside, the culture that both companies exist in have very different views about nudity.  We can't compare a larger North American developer to a smaller European developer and expect the comparison to be valid.  Until North American sensibilities about nudity or perhaps attitudes about video games change, it's unlikely we'll see much, if any, nudity in mainstream video games.  Blame it on our prudish beliefs (i.e. nude is always bad).

I'm not defending Origins awkward sex scenes, though.  I could have done without those.

Yeah there is probably some truth in that. Although I wouldn't be surprised if CDProjekt have had to consider the American market after the sucess of the original Witcher. It's certainly refreshing when games are marketed towards an audience other than the North American or Japanese audiences that seem to dominate the industry. One of the reasons I quite like games like Fable is that they hark back to a time when we got more games with quite British humour and landscapes, that seems to be less and less the case thesedays and even Fable is hardly a small British game itself.

More tracts of land were showing in her conventional outfit. Then comes the sex scene and she bundles up into a granny bra.

It just shows how scary sex is in America.

She does wear a bra, see the concept art. For some reason she likes to change the model to have sex.

An option to how much you want to see as happens with the violence in some games would be nice.

What argument?  Censorship implies opression, Bioware isn't being opressed, they can very well put all the nudity in games they damn well please, and I'm sure they would if they thought they could sell more units that way. Movies that aren't porns aren't "censored", the creaters just decided they didn't want porn in the movie.

I think a lot of it depends on the tone of whatever media I happen to be consuming.  Like if erotic themes are a central theme in the story, then I love it when they're in the story and done well.  If they're seemingly tacked on for no real reason, I roll my eyes and move on.

For example, the mod for NWN, A Dance with Rogues, was highly erotic and that worked really well.  Far more erotic than anything present in DA:O.  But in DA:O, the "sex scenes" came on and I hid behind my hand, embarrassed to even be watching them.

Did they also state there actually is going to be "full frontal nudity"? Note, i don't mean just lack of obviously plastered-on censorship but actual focus on such "feature". It's not like the first Witcher really had that beyond the few static drawings on the cards and the dryad model; the cutscenes in game were made to very much not show anything.

And even if they don't we'll still have an uncensored version. I wouldn't mind seeing BioWare follow suit and release a censored version in the US but why punish the rest of us?

"Punishment" feels like quite an overdramatic word for simply not showing some pixels pretending to be nude flesh. Especially when game mods render it pretty much moot issue.

It doesn't necessarily. The Lost and Damned got rather famous for including male nudity.
