The love scenes were pretty poor in my opinion. Gyrating in your underwear and having morrigan dress up isn't sexy at all. It doesn't really capture the romance to see two people in there underwear staring off into space. I remeber before DAO came out there was a developer showing part of the love scene to an audience nad he said "wer'e going to have to cut it off there because it gets too saucy". Too saucy?. Too saucy?!?!. It doesn't get any more "saucsy"...its just the same, they just said it for marketing hype.

Mass effect did it well. it was tasteful yet captured the characters lust and love for one another. Full frontal nudity would be another suitable option as well as in a game that is "Mature" and that has large ungodly amount of blood at the slightest hit seeing two naked people having sex (Yeah I've never heard of people have full penertrative sex in there underwear) wouldn't be that bad.

In my opinion you either do the love scenes tastefully or if your going to show everything (as you chose to for DAO) then I would suggest to make it a bit more mature and realistic.

Why do I care you ask. I'll tell you why. I see Dragon age as a pretty realistic dark game (realistic in its fantasy setting). Its dark, its gritty. All that seems to be lost in these generic underwear bashes that seemed to represent morrigans affection for my warden. Surly I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Even if making it full frontal would guarantee more flak why not make it tasteful like mass effect or just show a bit of foreplay and fade to black. Just my two cents. discuss :).

Mass Effect didn't do it well. No game has done it well. Sex scenes are a completely unnecessary addition to the game, they look awkward and it casts the game in a bad light. Just look how obsessed the Mass Effect 2 forums are with sex and romance characters?

If romances have to be in, they should be slow. Focus on the journey and the feelings rather than a slog that culminates in sex. Look at Lord of the Rings or Star Wars; the most you even see is a kiss.

Hehehe, IMHO, DA:O wasn't that dark or gritty (didn't look like that, for the most part, too). I wish it were, tho'. (I really hope they 'fix' the 'atmosphere' for both games...)

As for the love scenes: yup. ME1 did it best, I think. DA:O's was just...*cringes*

I'm honestly ok if they just had something like: kiss -> fade to black

IMHO, that would probably be simpler, and avoids the possibility of the love scene looking 'silly'.

I thought the ME2 scenes were great tbh. And not just the scenes either, but the build up to them between character interactions. The Tali hug was just an epic moment which just adds more substance to it.

It was a little bland in DAO tho imo, it just relied on voice acting and... well that was it really. Then their was this awkward sex scene all of a sudden lol.

i thought ME2's sucked, miranda's in particular was just atrocious.

I'd hope for a toolset, but i'm pretty sure any love scene in DA2 will be a cinematic and unmoddable.

Ah yes, the awkward sex scenes with blank faces on each character.

Fully agree with the OP

A quote to underline the irony of nudity in DA

It's either fade to black or nudity otherwise it looks stupid. I'd prefer fade to black.
OP is right tho, isn't DA2 an M
rated game? BW stop being bigots. Apparently seeing mauled bodies,
rivers of blood, decapitations is ok but a pair of ****** isn't. lol wtf?

Actually it's more like "Disgusting mutated six breast monster nudity = ok, normal human nudity = bad."

You know, im starting to get feeling that you just write ME2 a blank check and your void of its endless problems and difficultiers cause you got to shoot a gun!

ME1 did it right! DA:O and ME2 were travesties and NOT mature content!

Honestly, I loved DA:O but it wasnt mature in my eyes other then the needless blood effects. Story, content, eviroment, not mature!

ME2 was so IMMATURE it was like a 12 year old was given free reign to create what he thought was adult and cool! Hense a bald chick that swears to much the end result.

I really hope Bioware has learned from their mistakes but he they have not on all the others ones, why should this topic be any different?

Since the game spans 10 years I hope the romances are slow and show cutscenes of a build up, hugging, etc, not jsut a sex scene out of the blue.

ME1 did NOT do it well. Both ME games were too rushed. There was no sense of a building romance at all, just a couple conversations and then wham bam thank you ma'am.

People who say ME1 did it well mean that the scene itself was done tastefully, not necessarily the whole romance. At least, that's what I think.
And I agree with you on the build-up thing. It shoudn't be like "we flirted a little bit, get in my tent."

ME1 had the only sex scenes that didn't fall off the ledge into the uncanny valley.

What do you mean "blank check", exactly what problems are you talking about? And how exactly is ME1 mature and DAO and ME2 not? They all didnt show any nudity anyway. ME2 had ALOT more substance with its emotional connection between characters, and it was great.

I too hated Jack, she just wasnt my thing, at all. But it doesnt mean the rest of the game is immature.

Bioware are learning from their mistakes tho, their just catering their games to a larger crowd, and that inevitably means streamlining.

Admittedly tho, I may of overlooked something with ME1 and its "maturity", simply because I havnt played it for years and the last time I tried I simply couldnt be bothered, because it was just too clunky.

When people say ME1 did it best, I believe they mean the actual scene because it was done tastefully. Not necessarily the whole romance.

Ok, I give full credit of the finding of this video to 'huwmin race'

It is done tastefully and shows lust and everything we would want without the things that make "national parents" go nuts for publicity

I have to pick up a copy of Heavy Rain. I loved the demo but I don't know why I haven't gotten the game yet.

On topic: I thought the sex scenes in DA:O were laughable at best. I hope they can improve on them in the newest game at least.

bah to signing into UTube and their mass marketing ploy!

Anyways, Heavy Rain was good but the "OMG A NIPPLE!!!!! I SAW A NIPPLE!!!!" people would freak!

And yes, when people say ME1 did it right, we talking about the love scenes where they pull you into the moment and there is immersion even though there is no nudity (that ive ever seen anyways). Just tasefully done well.

Yeah I can agree with that. ME2 and DAO were both awkward.. especially The Priize! line. heh

well i actually disagree with you on the buildup thing. not because im a pervert who wants to get "to da panddies" as fast aas possible, but for logic reasons and for storytelling reasons. i mean, a couple having no sex for some years is simply immature. and if we wanted to build the romance up with shy characters who just dont fall in love with each other no matter what we do is also nonsense, especially if the game spans ten years. at some point you'd just want to shout "NOW tell him/her what you feel and be over with it, DAMMIT". besides, more "easy to get" characters with real romances building up afterwards (zevran, morrigan) arent possible if you put the sex into the end of the game....
to the sex scenes themselves: what we had in DA1 pretty much sucked, mainly because it appeared to declare sex as "evil" and censored much more then necessary and -by that- became tasteless. just imagine the scenes with naked people or just download a mod for that and youll get what i mean...

I won't spoil the game, but I really hated the timing when it came to that sex scene. The whole thing disgusted me.

I like how ME did it--I can't help but feel people are just crying out for more boobies when they say they want full-frontal. There's no need to graphically show everything that goes on; camera angles can do wonders to disguise what you want to hide. I understand not wanting to see underwear, but I don't need the whole thing.
