I've been stuck with a terrible computer for gaming (barely handled Mount and Blade) for the past 5 yrs and Mass Effect was the first game I wanted to play so I would rather not move on unless I had to.(I'm not clueless with computers but I simple problems are still likely so anythings possible)
Mass Effect 1 - Any help Appreciated

Just got Mass Effect 1, after two hours of downloading, and when the game booted up all I got was a black screen and a windows error message. I've spent 5hrs+ trying to find a solution and nothings worked. My computer is an acer aspire (4 Gb memory, intel i-3 processor, windows 7) and is known to be able to play new games (crysis/mw2/L4D2). I have updated it to 1.2 and the same problem remains.

Intel HD Graphics up to 1755 MB DVMT <-- There's your problem. Mass Effect 1&2 do not support and do not run on Intel videochips. With the slight exception of the very latest videochip from Intel and that one runs the game with severe graphical errors rendering it unplayable.
Without a real videocard you won't be able to play the game.

that sucks
Steam is not known 4 refunds
thanks 4 the answer it probably saved me hours (should have just asked first)
worst thing is that I thought that it could be a problem before I bought the game but because the reviewer of the laptop said that it could play L4D2 and Mass Effect 2 I went ahead and bought it...

Mass effect don't support that graphic "card" from what i know.
Edit: Make your own research before you blindly buy stuff cause of one mans words. Like google: <computer name> review. <-- Easy way to find out if your pc handles games etc.

Whoever that reviewer was, that part about Mass Effect 2 was a big fat lie.

Ya I'm kinda pissed cause I typed in google "Mass effect on Acer Aspire" (or something like that) and I got that result
I was more concerned about it running on windows 7 so double checked that

Well, the most important part is that about the videocard. In theory with mentioning CPU, RAM and videocard we will be able to tell you if you can run the game.
