ME1 is better than ME2. It's a better story. ME1 has slightly worse gameplay as the cover mechanics are kind of flaky and the AI is pretty mediocre but I liked it a lot more.

Plus you'll get to fall in love with the M-35 Mako (I'm serious, I LOVE the Mako!).

I completely agree with these people; you should play ME 1. However, in my opinion, ME 2 has a better storyline. This could be because I played ME 2 before ME 1. I'm guessing everyone else here played the games in the correct order. While ME 1 has an superb story, it is far shorter than ME 2. Additionally, as someone else here said, be prepared for horrible combat sequences; and if you are a completionist; you will most likely die of natural causes before getting every achievment. (Not a joke!)

And ME 1 has the best land rover ever, The MAKO!Image IPBImage IPBImage IPBImage IPBImage IPBImage IPB (It completely sucks!)

I don't know, I felt the Mako rocked. Hope they bring it back for ME3. For me, ME had the better storyline, ME2 had the better gameplay.

You may have felt that the MAKO rocked, but I believe that the general audience didn't. I know I didn't like endlessly climbing mountains to complete the game.

TO THE FORUM CREATOR: Using the MAKO is only required for small segments in the game in order to play the main storyline. HOWEVER, to complete the game and all of its side missions, you need to drive the MAKO for hours!

yes it is.

But actually, i hated ME1 the first time I played it. (Played ME2 first). Gameplay sucked, teamates sucked (except Wrex) etc.

And at the end... My head just exploded. This game is so epic. I played 3 times in a row right after (and gampleplay rocks).

ME1 rocks dude, go ahead and buy it right now.

I'm actually re-playing mass effect one for my "canon" playthrough. Once you get passed the gaming mechanics, then you'll be fine and enjoy a great game. You'll appreciate specific characters more once you play the game, like Tali and Garrus.

Aequitas, dude, if you loved it that much, you have to play ME1 to really get the full Mass Effect experience. It will take some dedication on your part, it's not as streamlined as ME2, but if you invest in it, you'll love it. And then you'll love playing ME2 again even more.

And who knows, maybe you'll become a Mako fan too... I loved the Mako and I don't care what anybody says about it (and don't forget it has a zoom feature, I just found out about it on my 3rd playthrough)...

So, go play ME1, and then come back and tell us all about it...

That is me asking you why you say ME1's story is far shorter than ME2's.

I forget, if you are going to play ME1 on the PC it would be a great idea to mod the files to increase your inventory space to 999 or similar, this way you get rid of one of the worst problems of the game, managing the inventory with all those endless items (upgrades specially).

Visit this web for everything you need to know about tweaking the game to make it work better for you: http://www.tweakguides.com/ME_1.html

Every ME2 playthrough I do is substantially longer than every ME1 run I ever did. Obviously with everything done and nothing skipped respectivly. As far as the main stor it self, I think Me2 is paced much better in terms of the main missions Along side fleshed out character missions. If you do Me1s main story only, jumping from story to story mission the game clocks in about 6-7 hours.

I don't think ME1 is shorter, but I did every sidequest (+mining^_^)

...and yes, play ME1

It would be more accurate to say that ME2's story seems longer because it has more side-plots to develop its characters, and you are encouraged to play them. ME1's main story isn't really any shorter than ME2's, there's just more recruitment-and-loyalty story in ME2, which increases its story content, if not the actual length of its main plot.

Why do you think that people who played ME 2 (like you and me) first like it far better than ME 1? Why is the exact opposite true for people who play them in the correct order.

Oh, LIARA DIDN'T SUCK!

And Kaidan Alenko, while not my favorite character, was played by Raphael Sbarge. He also played as Carth in Kinghts of the Old Republic and Scorch in Republic Commando.

The storyline itself is far shorter; the side missions are what make the game long. Actually, in terms of total game completion time, ME 1 is usually longer than ME 2. Sorry for the misunderstanding; I was referring to the storyline length, which was definently shorter.

Because everyone's wearing those rose-colored nostalgia goggles for whichever one they played first. Pretty much the same reason anyone ever argues over which sequel in a series is better than which other sequel.

I've played both to death and in the correct order. Me 2 is superior in every way in my opinion.

That's more because combats suck in me1 and are greatly improved in ME2. That said, and knowing that combats have a enormous place in the gameplay...

Yeah ME seemed to have a much broader storyline in my opinion. ME2 seemed more like 80 percent of the game was recruiting your squad.

But... huh?

ME1 had 4 story worlds. Not story "missions", story worlds. Plot worlds. This is a multi-step chapter of the story that lasts for a substantial period of time and engrosses you in its own mini-story. ME2 had brief, single-step plot missions.

ME2 felt, as someone said recently, like 15 minutes of story packed into an hour long segment. The actual plot of the game is interspersed between loyalty missions, which were excellent but felt a bit like mandatory sidequests.

So less dialog means shorter story? I disagree. ME was more about the story, ME2 was more about the characters.

party banter?

That's just a standard trilogy setting.
First episode: mind blowing scenario with introduction to the great threat, incarnated by one vilain.
Second episode: A lot more personnal, you already know the universe and now explore it further. plot doesn't advance well and **** start to go bad as this episode is a preparation for the
****ing insanely epic grand final. No more descriptions necessary.

All that miss actually, is an arch-nemesis to Shepard. though he has a big lot of ennemies, it lacks the "rival" that'll fight him during the 3 episodes.

I said that wrong. I ment literally there is far less Dialogue in the game. Just read Mark Meer's interviews.
