Actually I think Harbingers plan was better then soverigns. He wanted to create a human reaper because humans had impresssed him ( Commander Shepard). To do that he needed someone close enough to get there (collectors) and he didnt put himself in harms way (unlike soverign). Really he had everything to gain and nothing to lose. The collectors were just cannon fodder for the reapers, kind of like saramouns army in LOTR The Two Towers. Thats what I saw it as anyways.

Well, I found Sovereign's plan much easier to follow and understand. Use Saren and the geth to open the Citadel Relay and summon the Reaper fleet.

Harbinger's plan was... I just have no idea what was going on here.

Abduct human colonists to turn them into goo and then make a big goo baby human Reaper. But to do what exactly? Why did he make a human Reaper? The Reapers are already on their way here, the galaxy's got its head up its ass, why do you need a Reaper larva?

I agree with you, but it was done poorly.  If there was more Collector encounters, a conversation with Harby and some more info, it would have been better. The story of ME2 had potinal to be amazing, but Bioware fudged it up.

WTF?!?! ME 2 is AMAZING. IT IS ONE OF THE BEST SELLING RPG's EVER. IT ALREADY HAS MANY RECCOMENDATION FOR GAME OF THE YEAR, MORE THAN RED DEAD REDEMPTION!

Meh again its opinions. I thought ME2 was yes bad guy good guy, but all the side stories, which in my mind made up the main plot made it more, find out what makes your squad tick and then feed off of it. In ME1 the squad was very, these are good people gone through bad times.

Ash/Kaiden-Marines
Tali-Innocent Quarian
Garrus- csec
wrex-closest one to a "bad guy" persay but still good. His father nearly killed him and now he kills for credits

ME2 was just so much more, these are the best of the galaxy by being the worst
Zaheed-Blue suns
Jack-Did you hear the stuff she did. I still love her though
Garrus-way more vigilante now
Mordin and the genopahge

And I think ive said it before but I liked the faceless enemy, made it feel more meancing, again though just opinions. Ill buy ME3 and love it just as much Im sure

Yeah, I agree with you that the character handling in ME2 was done much better. I can understand how playing ME2 first would make ME1 feel a bit empty in that regard.

As for faceless enemies, my take has always been no interaction, no commitment. Sovereign was a great example of a vast, mysterious, faceless enemy, but he was more interesting imo because you could talk to him.

It really just depends.

Since the story is better in game 1 people who played game 1 first are more aware of what a step down game 2 was.

Since the gameplay is better in game 2 people who played game 2 first are more aware of what a step down game 1 is when they play it.

Meanwhile people who played game 1 first see the ME2 gameplay as a pleasant upgrade in exchange for a story downgrade, while people who played game 2 first are totally unaware of the fact its story is a downgrade at all.

ME2 main story sucked, it's the side stories that are the meat of ME2.

I hope you don't mean the side missions. The character and loyalty missions are an important part of the main storyline.

It's not onew of the best selling RPGs. That honour belongs to DAO, BG2, FO1,2 and 3, and so many others. CoD4 won game of the year, doest hat mean it's better then Galaxy  and Mass effect. You mgiht be joking but things like that are pissing me off.

side stories=the recruitment and personal missions. Those where the meat and those where well done, the main plot was like two babies got bored and wrote something.

I think it was more the old trick of, if you want your enemies eyesight, you eat their eyes, you want their bravery, you eat their heart. The reapers were a)scared and b)impressed by Commander Shepard and therefore humans, because she was probably the only one that had ever destroyed a reaper. So they decided on a plan that was twofold while the reapers were still in darkspace. Kill all the humans (eliminate the threat) and gain their power (Human reaper) Plus they had time to kill and I think that they thought the collectors were expendable, I dont think the reapers need them when they come, so harbinger again though, everything to gain nothing to lose.

BOTH ME 1 and ME 2 would completely suck without the characters' storylines.

Yes, but you see gaining strength by eating the flesh of your enemies is a primitive Earth belief practiced by savage warlords and aborigines before we understood what lightning was.

And the Reapers are supposed to be ancient, superior beings. It just seemed kind of wonky.

First of all, it is one of the best selling hybrid RPG's ever. Wait until the PS3 version is released. Additionally, (and this is a fact), ME is far more popular amoung general audiences than any other game you just listed. Is there a Dragon Age movie being made? (It would be awesome)

Maybe, but I still think old tricks like that might appeal to these guys. Remember its the old trick of suspense of disbelief. We have a super ancient race made of machines, but they wont take an old earth tradition, or really maybe even a universe tradition. Plus I think they just wanted to kill off shepard because it scared the reapers. They dogged her for 2 years almost, but who knows.

Also take into account, ME 1 and 2 has only been released on XBox and PC; while all of the other games are on PS3 too. ( Not sure what BG2 is)

Do you like ME 1 better in terms of storyline or gameplay? Other than characters, do you miss anything from ME 1?
