I honestly don't have any problems with ME1's gameplay. I didn't really notice the difference in combat much.

In ME2 you can vault over objects from cover. In ME1 you could crouch. In ME2 you have like 4 or 5 powers. In ME1 you had a gajillion. In ME2 you get charge. In ME1 you had singularity. In ME1 you could get loot. In ME2 you couldn't.

My ME2 shepards are all based on a single ME1 playthrough. It also means I can never get a level 6 ME 2 character. After 2, I just can't bring myself to replay 1, especially the horror that is the Mako.

The only character that wasn't well developed from the entire ME series was JACOB. (Definently not racist, he just seemed bleak) Loved Keith David! (miss him too.)

Yes, you should play it. If you don't end up liking it then at least it will make your ME2 experience richer when you import character. If you end up liking ME1, congratulations! you just played a decent game

You can play through the majority of the game without the MAKO. Just go to the main places.

Yes. Go play ME1, keeping in mind that the game wasn't intended to be a shooter as much as it was intended to be an rpg.

Kimberly brooks is an amazing voice actor.... I never really listened, I mean REALLY listened to the VA work while playing the game, but I played Eden Prime yesterday and I was blown away by how good Kimberly Brooks portrayed a shocked, somewhat scared, out of breath marine that was running from the geth. It was amazing! XD

I'm not sure who, but she also is a VA for some of the additional characters.

Don't forget her role in the second fire team on Virmire.....just epic epic VO.

I only played for about an hour... so, totally didn't make it that far! 

But yeah point was... I missed her voice work in ME2.

ME1 is much better, especially if you like RPG's.



The biggest, most glaring difference is the story and writing. ME1 is pretty good. There are some flaws, but nothing major, and nothing that ruins the experience.



ME2 is written pretty terribly and it plays out equally terribly. The A plot is revealed within the first hour of gameplay, and it is riddled with deus ex machina and poorly executed plot devices. There are no twists; there are far too many characters and everything feels choppy and rushed.

Characters are given the most flimsy plot devices to keep them in their storytelling place; Shepard isn't allowed to question the world in which she lives... It's bad.



As for gameplay... Well, ME2 is more streamlined; ME1 gives you more options. A LOT more options. Some people don't like options; some people are impatient and whiny and will say they shouldn't have existed. But that's the thick and thin of it. If you like options and exploration in your roleplaying experience, ME1 has much more to offer and it's handled much more expertly.



ME2 is a watered down action title designed to take up space.
