I think it was weird--he challenges you to a fight, and she ends up with him if you say yes. It's juvenile on both your parts, but I think it's worse on the guy who challenged you in the first place. It'd make more sense if she dumped both of you. But no.

AS in real life, love/romance is a complex thing, and emotional mumbo-jumbo even moreso. Unintended consexuences? People hard to read, acting strange? That is utterly realistic.
Also, Arie is a pacifist, so refusing to fight to get to her makes more sense than fighting.
Also, BG2 was set in a middel-age-like society. Duels and honor were common things. Ergo, not juvenile by the standards of that world.

HOw about this.
You romance a woman.
Another guy in your group romances her behind your back.
You find out.
You then confront her and ask to choose.
Being able to convince her, you are then able to keep her.
If you cannot....the option of beating up the other guy is there.
But will likely result in both or one leaving depending on how well you can intimidate.

Mm.. interesting but I'd dislike this happening every time. Dealing with something like this would probably be entertaining but if you want to romance this cheating woman every other playthrough? It's only the matter of having a high enough persuade skill.

Romance for the ages.

Yeah, I know. I'm just thinking of how to shake up the romances. Most romances (Morrigan being the exception) tend to be happy / happy / happy without any conflict or drama.

Oh yes, Alistair has his issues but unlike Morrigan you can work around them and make it work. You can become Queen / Mistress with your romance option, I'm stuck being with Anora and breaking off any previous romance!

I for one really like this entire idea. The romances in Origins got kinda really boring. I'd feel like I actually *accomplished* something if I had to fight for a LI - not just saying the right lines to get approval again. In practice, it might be a bit messy, but still =\\\\
