I've made only one Insanity run. With my Engineer. And plainly, I suspect any other class would have been more difficult. The reason: The Engineer is the only class who can have powers to damage shields, armor and barriers, if you select Reave as bonus power, and so rarely needs to leave cover to shoot. Also, I'm not so good at the shooting, so being able to rely on auto-aiming powers and to reach enemies behind cover by using the curved paths made it all possible in the first place.

Caster Sentinel might be fun for you.

Agreed, I think you could have a very enjoyable hc/ins run with a caster Sentinel if you enjoyed the Engineer.

Heck for a very Engie experience:  Throw Field, Heavy Warp, Power Armor, Area Overload, Raider, Dominate.

Area Overload is a wash, Heavy Warp instead of Incineration Blast, Throw Field instead of Full Cryo Blast, and Dominate instead of AI Hack.  The only really difference is Power Armor versus Explosive Drone.

Other good caster engineers I imagine:
Throw Field, Power Armor, Area Overload, Cryo Blast, Raider, Area Reave
Throw Field, Heavy Warp, Power Armor, Overload, Raider, Area Drain

You can only max 5 skills, Simbacca.

Right now, I'm running a Heavy Throw, Warp 3, Assault Armor, Overload 2, Deep Cryo Blast, Guardian, Slam 1 Sentinel. This is what I run when I want to just sit back and cast. Tons of CC, and you can run some interesting combos with your squadmates' powers. Mattock or Geth Pulse Shotgun recommended (the GPS has insane range, don't worry).

I would always spec for Guardian on the Sentinel, just for the whopping 30% cool-down bonus to all powers. Power Armor or Assault Armor is up to preference, though I still like Assault Armor for the increased survivability (and the ability to knock-down enemies in a 18m radius, setting them up for CC or shotgun kills).

A far better caster than the Engineer. You could also take Dominate or Reave as a bonus ability. You have a wide selection of powers, which have the fastest cool-downs of any class if you spec Guardian, plus huge survivability when compared to the Engie.

First Insanity Run: Caster Sentinel w/Assault Armor & Area Reave(using Sniper Rifle)

Second Insanity Run: Same build but w/Assault Rifle. Still like SR better for flavor

Third Insanity Run: Shotgun Engineer, using Improved Flashbang Grenade as bonus power. Remake of ME1 Engineer

Fourth Insanity Run: Shotgun Adept, with Heavy Barrier. Remake of ME2 Vanguard.

All runs used Garrus and Tali for story purposes. I have used all party members, but they are my preferred team.

I know, and they do.  One of the 6 is a 1 point wonder.  Carefully read the names, only 5 of the 6 have an evolved name in each.

And btw, nice Shatter Sentinel Image IPB

i've always found the grenades too tricky to use as a bonus power, and too out of sync with the rest of the powers, unlike when the squad mates use them, which work like everything else, when the player has them you have to aim your arc and land it just right to be effective, and if you're playing fast it's just too awkward
