in all seriousness though like i said why would bioware bother when i bet the majority (by far) of its consumers are male. i would go as far as say about 85-90% are male, i have nothing to base this on it is just a personal opinion as i have never known a female gamer and very very rarely ever see one on xbox live.

youre not helping and you actually appear to be trolling... anyhow, if youre searching on xboxlive.... well i dont think that youll find much females there... and that you dont know any females.... honestly i cant imagine you know any women besides those who mostly get undressed in your TV...

Why would it be a bad marketing move or drive away any male gamer if we saw a Lady Hawke?
The reasoning of the OP doesn't make much sense to me, but Bioware sticking to their male protagonists doesn't either. Did Lara Croft drive male gamers off? I assume not... :D
Yeah, it's about time there's more marketing with a Lady Hawke (or a FemShep in Mass Effect's case). Male gamers will for sure not mind seeing it or will even applaud it, so no idea what Bioware is still using the typical seasoned warrior guy for... had that enough, time for a change.

to your point, casadechrisso: If they'd put a Lara Croft alike character on top of the game the same persons ranting about not having a female character in the trailers would rant about her being some kind of pin-up-girl or whatever and that bio appearently couldn't respect women blabla. blaaa. blablabla. so you have to find a way to satisfy as much of the possible costumers as possible, and thats done best with a male character that also can appeal females, like hawke.

Well, Lara Croft had two rather large things going for her that'd help bring male gamers in. Lady Hawke may have a nice face, but unless she's incredibly busty and/or wearing a chainmail bikini, she isn't exactly going to draw crowds.

This was just an example for a female protagonist not driving male gamers off, and I'm certainly not asking for a monster like Lara Croft. There are other example like No One Lives Forever, Oni, etc. But the point is, if Morrigan was on the package of the box, male gamers wouldn't avoid it either, according to the comments to DA:O rather drool, while she also wouldn't drive female gamers away. Or Leliana or whatever. Even if not oversized like Lara Croft, women in RPGs still tend to be nice to look at, while the artwork can still be serious enough not to make female players facepalm.

He was kidding about the first part...

And are your insults really helping any more than his sarcasm?

your world must be very closed
do you think all wemon play is stupid lil fluffy cute monster type games or things to do with make up and clothes ( talking mostly about the ds games) Wemon do play games no matter what it is I am female and I play a range of games from romantico  story lines to action blood and guts, only because you have nto noticed them dose nto mean there not out there, you just need to open your eyes...

I have an xbox what got me annoyed was when I brought it at the store the guy at the counter said and I quote "Oh but your a girl" he was really confused as to why I rather play final fantasy then say some stupid barbie game

/sigh

No. That wonderful little 90% remark is utter fallacy. It's just a statistic people pull out of nowhere to prove their point, and because they don't know any better. I know you said it's your opinion, but it's a false opinion too many people have, and it gets more irritating every time I hear it. At least you don't seem to mean it maliciously.

The statistic we have is a 60/40 ratio. We have no way of telling exactly what the ESA was counting when they said "games"--does Bejeweled count? Farmville? Generally when I present this, the standard reaction is "They're all Sims players". There's not a great way of telling, but it's the only "official" statistic that we have.

There are plenty of female gamers on Live who play games like Halo, COD, Blur and so on. Not that many who play FIFA, there are plenty who play GTA and RED Dead, and who do wish that there was gender choice for the main lead in Rockstar's games, which are so backwards in that area that it's beyond a joke.

Many try not to make it so obivious though, like not using a mic, not drawing attention to themselves. They just want to game with fellow gamers, not be pestered by some annoying prat who can't accept that female gamers are very real.

A female Hawke trailer would be great to see if it were possible, though please show others things beyond the fights please?

Only ever showing fighting seems to make the game look like some kind of dumbed down 'kill, kill, KILL!' thing.

I kinda doubt Bio will bother with rendering another CGI video just so you can get your kicks...

I think they should have a male and female Trailer so we can see them both at the same time female hawke and male hawke fighting side by side or somthing so we can see what there made of

leads to absolute confusion. the main audience would just ask "whos that chick fightening alongside of Garret?? i wanna know!! shes haawt!!". in the end this confusion could've  a negative impact on the sales...

not ifs its done in a certain way

for example they can fade out to the female after seeing the male version or it could simplely be a short movie to show both of them off
example would be start off with male hawke the narrater would say somthing like play as male or female and at that point show ladyhawke in action one could be a mage while the other a rouge theres so much you can do with out confusing the aduience

what you suggest would only work in a CGI trailer, and those arent really supposed to have a deeper meaning. they shall be "badass and blood and whooo whoooooooo!!!!!111" to catch the attention of the audience. what you suggest propably wouldn't catch half as good as what we have now, especially if it would still result in confusion if youre seeing something of the game for the first time. and marketingwise confusing the "first-lookers" is a very very baaaad idea. if you dont trust me in this matter, what i can understand, trust the bioware PR guys. they didn't do that for a reason, and they studied this sh!t. if they dont do it, its safe to assume they have a good reason.

I do Trust you on it ser Itomes please allow me to apologise if i seemed to attack you i did not mean to I am just trying to figure out a  way people can be happy with a mini movie preview of the game so to speak maybe bioware should hold up a contest or something to do with a trailer let teh fans make one and the best one would be featured or something on youtube or somewhere

Seriously, there is already one thread about this that had crazy debating, do we really need it again?

If you want to talk about femHawke without having to get all defensive about it, just go to the one about her appearance.

And I just want a trailer with both, where the main seems to change appearance min-trailer.

Agreed--I don't expect to see a CGI trailer of female Hawke, ever. A regular one works just fine. So long as they plug in some LIs, of course. B)

I may not be typical, but I cannot remember ever having finished an RPG with a female character. If I were female it might well have been the other way around. So to me it seems quite understandable why women might want more support for their character creation choice. If that is feasible is another question. The ME 2 trailer, say, is really a work of art and you can't just swap Shepard's model without breaking it. Males and females ARE different, you know. Also females are rather new to the Shepard-role, so a femShep trailer might actually be harder to make. Or maybe thats just me. I really should play femShep to find out how they managed that.

you werent attacking me, but in forums its usually a bad idea to trust someone you know close to nothing about so i thought bringing in a good reference would help my point :).

anyhow, if i call it right we already had good solutions for DA:O, for example all non-human-noble origins were shown with females (if im not wrong, what, of course, could be the case). bioware gave the female characters there time in the spotlight, even tough it wasn't in CGIs. many here are simply ranting to rant, knowing little to nothing about the marketing strategy of bioware. they just rant for there was a male character in a CGI what is totally normal and what was expected by everybody.

The female Shepard is a lot better than the male, in both ME1 and ME2. The voice acting for her is excellent, though a little gruff.

Better than the male's, who sounds like hhis heart just isn't in the role.

Um...

I'd say that worked out pretty well. Some things were changed, most was not. It was even featured on the BioWare blog. And, I don't get your "females are rather new to the Shepard-role"? You mean being leaders? Playing Shepard?

@Saibh, I agree, of course. However, I'm rarely appeased with mere promises. As soon as we see LadyHawke, I'll make sure to be appropriately appreciative. Until then, I like to take part in keeping the requests to see her on the front page ;)

:D Yes, of course I want to see more of her. It's just, when guys (or occasionally girls) come marching into these threads calling us feminist witches and go back to the kitchen, I like to point out for how little we ask for--not the full-on equal coverage (or greater coverage), that puts them in a cold sweat or something. I'd rather be able to keep saying how reasonable and polite and just-so-darned-sweet we all are. :bandit:

Id say the first guy ( or occasional girl) to walk into a thread and call a female a feminist witch and to get back to the kitchen should be street stomped. Those days are long over, and while i might be male, if you peer into my DA PS3 profile you'll see most of my characters are female. Why? Well mostly because the first game i played on a console was Tomb Raider, and have a huge amount of respect for female gamers in general (and because i also married a female gamer, mm rawr). But hopefully we'll get to see Missus Hawke here soon, would really love to see a trailer or at least a few screenshots of her, since she most likely will be who i will play when DA2 releases.
