A Gawker site would never exagerate and intentionally whip their reader-base into a frenzy to rack up page views and comments.

It's what BioWare showed. Why are you blaming Kotaku for describing what they were shown?

BioWare is at fault here and this ****** poor marketing is going to end up biting them in the ass. They are making it seem as if they've consolized the whole damn franchise.

This is so cliche.

It seems to me that the beginning bit is essentially a fun, integrated tutorial. I don't think it's cliche; or at least, no more than the DAO world itself is. You take one with the other. B)

DAO was not cliche. Period

Dude, you gotta use sarcasm tags with this sort of thing,

It's an XBox preview anyway. If you don't want an action game, why are you playing on a console?

Could you possibly be any more ignorant?  I mean, just because someone's a console gamer means they couldn't possibly want tactical and challenging experience, right?  There are just as many action games on PC as there are on consoles, and vice-versa.  Stop with your stupid generalizations.

It turned many cliches on their heads, but they definitely relied on story archetypes and cliches to help tell their story--the same way ME relies on sci-fi stereotypes. I'd say ME was the more unique of the two. I personally thought the way they handled their own take on well-known characteristics of world, species, and lore to be quite clever. I love the game, and I'll love this game, but saying anything else is pure denial.

Bioware deserves all the misleading previews until they release demo or gameplay videos.

That is destined to happen and they know it.

That's the part where I like bringing Demon Souls up. I am actually quite intrigued by that game and would like to play it. Too bad I don't own a console and can't justify purchasing it just for this one game.

I think that when trying to introduce a new franchise to a large audience, relying on established archetypes is almost essential.  People are more comfortable starting in a setting that is familiar to them and then letting it get different gradually as time goes on.

One example from fiction is the Wheel of Time series.  People often make fun of the Eye of the World for being an uber-cliched book, which it is.  They don't realize that it was supposed to be full of cliches in order to introduce a large number of people to the world by starting them off in familiar territory.  Only as the series went on did more original content, and the larger theme of the story, start to reveal itself.

This is where emulators need to come in. There are alot of games on the console i would love to play but i simply cannot due to the interface, or lack of console. I believe they should release some sort of emulator for consoles to allow us PC gamers to play console games on computer with a keyboard and mouse.

And don't say it isn't possible, i played the N64 emulator with Super Smash. I have even heared of PS3 and 360 Emulators, but i haven't bothered to look into it due to most being viruses or no roms of any good games.

Ahh.... that was a good one. Well done.  Dwarves living underground in a cavernous city.....elves hiding away in the forest....humans being oppressive.  A villain who takes power during a crisis.   Nope, no clichés there

While I think that continuing to talk about hack and slash combat after devs explanation on the matter is trolling, I have to agree on that one. I think that it was shortsighted from BW to show that segment of the game since it's causing more confusion than good press or good marketing.

Is there anyone here that isn't a PC elitist?  I'll reply to you the same way I replied to that other fellow, just because someone is playing on a console doesn't mean they don't desire a tactical experience.  In fact, didn't Dragon Age: Origins sell better on consoles than it did for PC?  Seems like console players are actually more into this whole tactical thing than PC players.

honetly I don't mind obvious troll threads because they get a lot of attention and quickly get derailed into a different discussion anyways :o

As has been said over...and over...and over...the reviewer played on the console which is more action-oriented anyway, and was playing the crazy, exaggerated part. Which is by all accounts, NOT indicative of how the actual game plays. My god....

Very few games/movies had dawrves living underground. And they do not only live underground. Humans are oppresive, in both movies and games, AND real life, if they wanted peaceful people thay would have just made another race. There are city elves. Elves live in the forest, yes, but what do they do there is different than most games.

Yep, figured I'd offend someone with that.

I'm sure you're aware of this, but consoles are limited by poor effective screen size and bad control setups. It's not like Bio's going in this direction for no reason, after all.

Alternatively, you could say that Bio's only doing this because they think console gamers prefer action games rather that because action games are what consoles are better at doing. I think that'd be wrong -- and it's even more insulting to a console gamer -- but as a PC player I don't have a dog in that fight anyway.

Emulators usually come out for a certain console after the new generation is already released.  The only time I recall seeing an exception to this is with handheld systems.  But you can find emulators for the ps2 and the xbox at this point, and I imagine "they" will emulate the 360 and ps3 once the new generation of systems come out.  I'm not sure if we'll ever see a wii emulator, though.

meh I like to game on both.  But I own a gaming PC specifically to play games you can't get on consoles, which are usually tactical and strategic games.  :o

I agree.  I wonder how much of the potential "new audience" even pays attention to releases this long before the game is released?
