Could you possibly be any more ignorant? I mean, just because someone's a console gamer means they couldn't possibly want tactical and challenging experience, right? There are just as many action games on PC as there are on consoles, and vice-versa. Stop with your stupid generalizations.
Yep, figured I'd offend someone with that.
I'm sure you're aware of this, but consoles are limited by poor effective screen size and bad control setups. It's not like Bio's going in this direction for no reason, after all.
Alternatively, you could say that Bio's only doing this because they think console gamers prefer action games rather that because action games are what consoles are better at doing. I think that'd be wrong -- and it's even more insulting to a console gamer -- but as a PC player I don't have a dog in that fight anyway.
I wasn't really offended, just trying to correct your way of thinking. I guess I'm just finding it annoying that I'm seeing these kinds of generalizations in so many threads here. I'm not sure what you mean by "poor effective screen size," but yes, you're right about consoles being limited as far as controls go. Even still, DA: O sold very well on consoles, didn't it? One would think that would be proof that console players actually DO enjoy the kind of experience DA: O gives.

So no, tactics play a freaking huge part on the console.. Especially tactics slots, never really used them on the PC.

You can't fit as much information on the screen when you're designing games for TVs of widely varying size and formats where people sit widely varying distances from the screen. In general, you have to make stuff bigger and you have a less precise method of selection than a mouse, so you can't fit as much stuff on the screen.

Hey he's just a bit podgy ten years down the line, not only should that not rule him out as an LI (break down the walls BW, bring podgy love to DA2!) but when you meet him he will blatently be a stallion.
Varric needs not sculpted abs in order to woo the ladies. He has chest hair for that.

Ahh.... that was a good one. Well done. Dwarves living underground in a cavernous city.....elves hiding away in the forest....humans being oppressive. A villain who takes power during a crisis. Nope, no clichés there
Very few games/movies had dawrves living underground. And they do not only live underground. Humans are oppresive, in both movies and games, AND real life, if they wanted peaceful people thay would have just made another race. There are city elves. Elves live in the forest, yes, but what do they do there is different than most games.
Tolkien dwarves are based upon the Norse dwarves. Tales abound, but they generally prefer living underground, are excellent miners and smiths, and since they're with the Vikings, they also get the ale, axes, and beard thing going for them. I'm honestly unsure why you'd say few games or movies have dwarves living underground...
Again, the cliches are there. They were used to build a familiar world. You can't deny it--it's not a bad thing, it's just the truth.

In your point of view, if the qunari made it into a movie, they would be cliché, because the writer just used them. Underground Dwarves are not cliché, because the concept is not in every single game, unchanged. There may be some games with underground Dwuarves, but DA changed some stuff in their culture, so I don't believe they should be called cliché.Saibh wrote...

Sure i love my action games, they are fun and exciting. But don't for one minute generalize me!
I had hours of fun on Dragon Age: Origins and i sure as hell will love DA2. Sure the console version is a little more action orientated, but thats to make up for our lack of tactical use. It is harder to make a conole game more tactical so obviously more fighting had to be involved to bring it up for us.

lol really? Dwarves with beards and axes living underground is a definite trope. Not a bad thing, because starting on familiar territory is good. The culture is unique, sure, but the core elements are the same. Kind of like how different stories can use a similar storytelling mechanic and still end up being quite different.
