Hello any/everyone i recently got quite nostalgic and went to install my copies of BG 1 and 2. BG1 installed fine the first time but i had an issue where everytime i would move my cursor to the left of the screen to scroll the map the game would minimize. So in an effort to resolve this issue on my own before seeking guidance i uninstalled the game and tried to do a custom install the second time around opting for a full install. Well the game got to about disc 3 or 4 in the install process before i got an error and had to force quit the install. I was then unable to uninstall the game via the autorun display because i received an error message. I then used my trial version of Your Uninstaller to remove the game from my hard drive thinking that i would then be able to try and install it again. This did not work as the autorun only displayed the uninstall button instead of install and clicking said button merely closed the autorun window and left me with nothing. So my question is, How can i go about reinstalling the game? I am very eager to play the original before i replay the second and any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Please be well.

The only way I know of would be to follow the manual uninstall instructions found here. But be very careful, since it involves editing the registry and things can go badly wrong if you delete the wrong thing. If there's another way to do it then the information is probably somewhere on the old forums. The search function is here.

In XP, there's an option to make a restore point or to go back to an earlier restore point. You could tru either. As for the the discs, which version do you have? The 5 disc version...? or one of the newer versions. If you have the five disc version, it is always a good idea to let the disc spin up and then spin totally down before you click on continue.
As for your problems, with the mouse, I remember someone having trouble with the same thing for BG1 at the old forums.

Thanks so much guys i truly appreciate the input. I just checked back here so i have not yet tried either of the suggestions yet but i think ill start with the manual uninstall and see if i cant carefully go about repairing this problem. as for my OS aries, im running vista 64bit and using the old school five disc version of the game so if and when i get it uninstalled properly ill heed your advice and let the disc spin up then down before i click continue. Once again thank you miss daydream and aries for the quick responses. i would like to be active in an online community. perhaps i will start here. Be well you two. ill post the outcome of my efforts when i finish the mentioned methods.

You're most welcome
As for Vista 64Bit, I think you'll need to install the game in another folder than C:/Programs as Vista is very protective of what it is allowing into that folder. Also, if you can install the game as an admin, it would be best. Once the game is installed, you'll need to right click the game's icon and choose the 'run as admin' option...
Also, make sure to wipe the old discs clean with a soft cloth before you put them in.

Well no good news to report =/ I went through the instructions for the manual uninstall very carefully and did not find any of the files or folders i was told to delete. Put in the BG1 disc 1 just for the hell of it and still having the same problem. Is there an option in vista for a restore point? and if so do i have to have already created a restore point in order for that avenue to work? pardon my ignorance of seemingly simple common knowledge computer issues. heh. im assuming though that i would have needed to create the restore point prior to all this going on. thanks again.

Huh, that's weird. Well, not sure about Vista but I know that XP regularly creates system restore points automatically. The trouble might be that it doesn't affect all files and not sure if that would include game files (although the site I link below suggests that it should). Still, it can always be reversed, so it's worth a try. Instructions for Vista here. It should give you a variety of dates so pick the closest one before your BG problems. Be warned, it will also undo any other major changes you've made to your computer since that date. If it doesn't work and you want to reverse it you go to the same place as the computer should create a new restore point so it can be easily undone.
Edit: someone on the old forums also suggested manually running the setup.exe file on the cd, as this would bypass the autorun menu. They claim this should work even on top of a bad install. I'm not technical enough to know if that's right but it might be worth a try. Maybe create a restore point before doing it, just in case something odd happens.
2nd Edit: Oh, good you got it! Looks like you did something similar to my edited in suggestion. Glad it worked for you (and hope your mouse issues have disappeared).

Well i now have good news. Before i tried to use the restore point method i decided to explore the BG1 disc and view the files. I came across an .exe that said something like deleter at the end of it and decided to run it as admin. Lo and behold it was the installer that i was able to access without using the autorun prompt. Did a full install with all other programs closed and got it 100% done. Haven't tested the game itself other than to get to the main menu screen but everything seems to be in order. Perhaps one of the two of you would want to report this method as it seems like a viable option if the manual uninstall doesn't work for people and they get the same autorun only showing uninstall after the game is completely gone. Thanks for all the help. Hope to encounter the two of you in the future either here in classic BG1 and 2 forums or maybe Dragon Age forums. Send me a friend request perhaps if you are so inclined. take care and please be well.
