You know what as a person who loves to be the minority and speak I have to in this case ebing where I am.
Claim this game need vampires that have diamond skin that shines in the sun light. In this case they will stay out of the sun for fear of poachers wanting their diamond skin.

If their skin is made of diamonds, then I can't stab them to death.  Not a lot of fun.

Since "vampires" in the Dragon Age universe are people/things possessed by hunger demons, I think they could be interesting if they're anything like the Subsiders from Daybreakers. If not more horrific than them. Being so hungry/thirsty that they devour their own flesh, becoming more horrific, powerful, and beastlike as they go.

That'd be cool. You wouldn't even have to call them vampires.

Twilight vamps would be a nice source of income...all this bling-bling ;) in my pocket ;P

BTW we have werewolfs in Thedas, why not wampires?

I just cant bear the fact that Twilight gave such a bad name to vampires...Now vampire genre are identified with this teen bunch and all other spin-off. Sad.

i think vampires are cool... why not have vampires? they're pretty widespread in the high-fantasy genre...

so long as they explode in the sunlight, drink humanoid blood, and are not fetishized as all super-models with teen angst despite age...

The best vampires are the VTM ones. They have all the traditional strengths of classic vampires, plus they show up with Mac-10s and Spas shotguns/

The things I love about vampires is their nature, their hidden existence within their food(i.e., us), their secretive society [as evident in Blood Omen series(game), Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines(game), True Blood(especially from Season 2)]. Even Baldur's Gate 2 had vampires. NWN had Rakshasa.

The problem with these cannibals of DA is that they're not as cool as the above mentioned and they're possessed unwillingly! WTF? Within the scope of DA what I think would work is people willingly submitting themselves to the demon host to become this powerful cannibal and then the person and the host working together, in a symbiosis relationship . This way the cannibal will have a concrete identity and much more effective self-awareness than the - oh look I'm doing these sickeningly evil stuffs not because I'm evil but I'm possessed against my will - crap. And to be in closeness of their food they should live among humans, being disguised and having a secret society of their own.

And NO, in no ****ing way I'm a fan of the Twilight crap!

I'm sure that the majority of traditional vampires became as such unwillingly. Look at VtMB. Poor guy/gal was clearly just trying to get laid.

@casedawgz:

But a vampire after being made starts acting like one. Like - I'm a vampire, I need to drink blood to survive. It retains a lot of its human intelligence.

But with existing DA cannibals, the people are never in control of themselves but the she-demon hosts are. Demon is NOT EQUAL to Vampire.

I believe in the original folklore, vampires are corpses possessed by demons. DA's versions don't seem far off.

And hey, who says that demons are just mindless monsters? Maybe its a cunning demon that possessed someone, and is in complete control of the body?

Well, it really depends on the setting. In the Buffyverse that's exactly what it equals.

Not fond of vampires, either ('cept when they're burning...or Blade/Underworld-type movies, 'cause end result is still more dead vampires), but what about Warhammer Fantasy's 'Vampire Counts' kind of vampires? (more or less organized as an army, w/ some vampires in full plate)

This would be interesting in a setting like Dragon Age's; the Blood Dragons (appropriately enough for DA!) in Warhammer Fantasy, at least the old tabletop editions I know, are an order of knightly vampires who value martial prowess and honour highly, while still being thoroughly nasty pieces of work.

I'm not sure any of WFB's vampires fit into DA's lore, though; they're major (if secretive) forces in that setting who only persist because they're very difficult to kill and backed by significant military power.

What's so bad about vampires? As long as they are not Twilight gayness, they are great!

I'm not saying demons are mindless. All I'm saying is that demons' agenda and vampires' agenda are not the same.

Demons are like devils. They don't care about us. They're just busy manipulating us.
