Restoring Ferelden: The Story of King Alistair and Queen Ryonah
Fifteen Years after the Blight Ended
In the balcony above the tournament field sat a man and woman. His blond hair, once a short warrior’s haircut, had lengthened; at first growing in a bit of ragged manner, but now it was evenly cut to shoulder length and he had taken to wearing it in the style his brother had favored. His once scruffy facial hair growth had been shaved clean. Her dark auburn hair was pulled back sharply but then tumbled down to the middle of her back in a mass of curls that glinted redder in the sunlight. Her features were familiar to the people of Ferelden as she had a striking resemblance to the beloved Eleanor Cousland, wife of Bryce Cousland; both of whom perished when they were betrayed by a trusted friend. Their attire was stunning and was meant to dazzle all who met them. Their outfits complemented each other showing all that they were a single unit and that is how they ruled. The King and Queen of Ferelden had proven themselves time and again to be what Ferelden needed for its future. The Queen stood to stretch and as she did so her cloth covered swollen belly could be seen for that moment before the folds of her dress hid her state once more. She seated herself again and the King took her hand and turned her hand palm upright to press his lips firmly to the center of her hand in a kiss before going back to watching the tournament below.
The balcony door slammed open and in a moment the balcony filled with children. The oldest two both girls (ages thirteen and twelve) with plaited hair the color of the queen’s hair carried twin three year old boys; one having the hair color of the king and the other the hair the color of the queen. The oldest boy, his hair a match to the kings carried a younger blond curly haired girl child and he handed the sixteen month year old to the king before slugging a younger dark auburn haired brother in the arm for pushing him. The king cleared his throat and the children moved quickly to settle down in the chairs around the King and Queen. A seven year old boy and six year old girl both with their mothers hair came on to the balcony and settled down to watch the tournament. The King had once questioned his Queen if it was wise to allow such young children to witness the brutal tournaments but she had insisted it was best for the children to see it first hand than to hear about it. The King and Queen of Ferelden have graced Ferelden with nine children and another on the way, making the Theirin line stronger than it has ever been.
