It looks good, but I'll get Two Worlds 2 over this one. Limited budget, and all that.

The graphics are awesome, but I'll repeat what I already said some 20 times all around the site. The game won't be a Gothic game. It will be easy to play, it will be a clickfest and there won't be factions to join. The level up system was made a simple "click the skill you want to learn" like in most RPGs instead of having Teachers.

I WILL buy the game, but I expect nothing good from it. If only combat was as good as in the older Gothics, it would be one of the best games in the year.

Yes, i think they want gothic 4 to be easy because they want the game to be popular in America. The game has in the Options menu 2 settings, american version and european version. The american is easy and the european is some "hardcore"

The System Requirements are Stupid, like an Atari distributed game usually is.  An 8600 GTS was barely equal to an X1800 XT, let alone the very least powerful of the X1900s, the GT model.

www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php

When it comes to comparisons to the X1900 XTX, it takes one of the lesser 8800s to match to it.

www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php

That one can't, though!

An hour later, I revisited the 2008 VGA charts at Toms Hardware, and the X1950GTX matched to the 8800GTS on their chart:

Not to mention the HD48 series are much better than the 9800 cards. Ugh, stupid 9800GT.

I think this game looks pretty good, buuuutttttt... No female PC, ergo I'm out.

"Recommended" is so much less critical, though.  I did plug in the wrong URL for Toms Hardware, if anyone followed that first one to its destination.   And I did bypass commenting on the "Bad Hair Day" at first, but in retrospect,  "Whaaa ... "

Really? That sounds more reassuring I guess. But yeah, G1 and 2 got generally bad reviews because of the "stupid" combat system... just because reviewers will use a clifckfest instead of THINKING how to hit targets... It's not like you can swing a sword at the same speed of mouse clicks anyway. Well, Morrowind Daggers proved that wrong :?

I'm almost done playing through the Gothic series (Except Forsaken Gods - I have forsaken it). The first was great, but buggy as you like and crashed in the region of 300 times before I completed it. Gothic 2 with the expansion, is one of - if not the, hardest RPG I've ever played. It was also one of the best. Gothic 3 (Which I'm around 90% through) is the shallowest of the lot, and combat stupidly unbalanced - For much of the game, I can wipe out towns full of orcs, yet get slaughtered by a pair of wolves.

Ultimately, I'll be picking this up, though I'll wait for it to come down in price, and hopefully be patched to a reasonable level. But despite myself, I'm looking forward to it - even though all accounts say its been dumbed down.

I tried the expansion of G2 at a friend... While I can actually say that I know quite a lot of Gothic combat... and if I may be so bold, I call myself an expert of the game, the expansion makes it ridiculously hard. I mean, I didn't find any way to kill 2 wolves simultaneously just out of Khorinis.
I have the exactly same problem with G3, as you mentioned. The GREAT hero decimates armies with wit and strength, then, a wolf comes... and the hero dies. It's ridiculous! When the guy should be able to kill a wolf in one hit, the wolf starts hitting SO fast that the hero can't react and all you can do is listen to the "ugh-ugh-ugh-ugh-ugh-ugh-YAAARGH!"... *The End* ... And then I get frustrated because I saved only half an hour before that wolf encounter and Ctrl-F4 the game and get all nervous... That's EXACTLY what happened to me 4 hours ago. Was clearing the wolf mine near... CITYNAME and got killed. RRRRGH....

There was a device we had in high school Physics that generated a lot of static electricity -- back when I still had all of my hair, and had it been long enough, it might have looked like that when I was holding onto the silver ball on the top.  But in my HS days, mine was pretty short then.

And those eyes!

Maybe after an all-night bender, I might have thought they were that bloodshot . .

But the fact is that after G3, Piranha Bytes (the developers) made a NEW game series, or rather, one title, which from the comments I heard "takes the best of all Gothics, puts some astonishing graphics and a very cool story to make it an even better series"... I am talking, of course, of Risen.

I love fighting unarmed peasants because they kick the crap out of you and take your weapon, seriously who needs weapons when you have FISTS.

This should be good, I thought Gothic 3 was alright despite the fact that a lot of people didn't, definitely going to play the demo of this though and see how it is before buying it.

Looking at review scores of the entire Gothic series shows a massive rift between the German audience it's so popular with and other audiences. You'll see Gothic 3 getting an 80 in a German mag and a 50 in a British one; you'll see Drakensang: The Dark Eye getting a 60 in a British mag and a 90 in a German one. Hopefully Gothic 4 will bridge the gap and show us the much-loved heart beating under a layer of bugs.

@dark-lauron: despite recieving very positive reviews from German publications, Risen got a bit of a "meh" response. Lower scores tended to come from reviewers who'd played the game multiple times to check on the effects of choices, etc., that the game made such a big deal of; apparently they do barely anything. So a new dev and a new start might be a good thing, seeing as Pirhana Bytes' vision of "the best parts of Gothic" didn't seem to work very will in this day and age.

However, I'm making a judgement having never played Risen (will pick it up soon; screw any flaws, I need an RPG), so I'm probably spouting a load of crap. Still, if, after three games, Gothic still hasn't caught on in the West then I think a new dev team is a good thing. Looking forward to this 100%.

So, anyone playing/played this yet? Is it as bad as the reviews I'm reading about it? I'm getting the Demo right now but still scared it might ruin my love for Gothic, at least until Piranha Bytes gets the right over their title back from a crazy publisher!
