I hadn't thought about the possibility, but it definitely would be interesting. BioWare said one of the big things in the storytelling of DA2 is family. Starting your own family perhaps too?

Running around as FemHawke while pregnant would be interesting.

They were supposed to do something similar in Fable 2 early in development. We were going to see the effects of pregnancy in our characters if they were a woman. That never made the cut of course.

If they did anything like that I imagine it would be a skip in the narration. Pregnant FemHawke fighting darkspawn would be really awkward. Posted Image

But Molyneux is known to promise stuff like this. For example how Fable 2 would take multiple years and how we would see trees grow over time. What he didn't say was that we'd be locked in a prison for ten years and notice none of these changes.

Meh, they could just leave 5 or 6 months of the storyline empty to allow for it to work

I know. I really have a hard time believing in his vision when most of the stuff simply can't be done or because of time it has to be dropped. I'm really treading here with Fable 3 to be honest. I love that the Villager Creator is online and we can actually use it. I’m skeptical if the villagers that we make will really play a big role in the game. Will they really be romancable? Will we even really get to see them more than just a few moments and then the town they are associated with gets blownup?

They could make it so that FemHawke settles down for a year or two to deliver/take care of the baby. For male Hawke, make him settle down just like FemHawke, but instead have him take care of the family for the year or two. I mean, the game spans a decade and I can't imagine my character constantly on foot and stressed out about the dangers of the world for that long. Hawke needs to have some kind of peace. Then they can introduce some plot element that forces Hawke to leave his or her family later to continue the story. I can picture that being the halfway point of the game.

To be honest, introducing children into the narrative does sound interesting. If Bioware can implement it well, I'm all for it.

I think what could work would be the first 1month you go on fighting...Then you feel yuour stomach..fade to black narrator says 8 months later then hear a baby cry. Then goes on with a short cutscene as you leave your baby at the chantry for safe keeping as you go fight whoever.

Id like to think that HAwke's sister is the one to have a child and Hawke having an impact on that's child's life within those 10 years. I believe this can be done more easily because not all PCs will have a LI.

I love the idea of Hawke having children. I think it would be possible considering the game span a 10 year period.

The very notion of Children being had between Hawke -male/female- and thier respective love interest and all the possible plot and smaller story potential is just staggering. It's been mentioned by Mr. Laidlaw that one of the most important aspects of Hawke's overall journey to Champion/Tyrant of Kirkwall is Family, and all the pros and cons that come with it.

In the beginning we have Hawke's Parent and Siblings; later, that dynamic could very well grow to encompass Hawke becomming a Parent him/herself. I find I rather love the idea of imparting to your child or children all the knowledge you have gained over the course of 10 years; raising them to be either great Champions of Virtue, or Pillars of Tyrany and Power. Also, seeing your LI react to how your family is cared for could also open so many doors story wise. There is simply so much that can be done within the realm of Family drama. (Shakes head) My mind is just buzzing with what BioWare might choose to present us.

This. I have always loved the idea of having "apprentices" or "squires" who followed your character learning from them. It adds a whole other level of drama into the game. A level beyond that of sex buddies or best buddies, one of a master/student interaction. I would love the option for my totally badass Hawke to teach his totally badass bearded baby 10 years worth of magic and then just release him on the world.^_^

Come on, I must not be the only one who wanted to feel like Obi-Wan Kenobi instead of always being Luke Skywalker every time.:bandit:

Seconded. :)

I am an ambitious gal but I would love to have kids, so if my Fem!Hawke can do such a thing (settle down for some time before going back out) maybe I won't give up on myself anymore XP I have always believed I would end up a creepy old lady with 5 dogs and 10 cats.

At least you have expectations! I'm a guy, there's no such thing as "cat men".

But there is "lemon party" :shudders:

Damn you Encyclopedia Dramatica!

I wonder what single old men do with their life. I said " a creepy old lady" because I would be dabbling in the fitness industry and probably end up with Madonna-type physique...

Ugh. I still want Varric's baby.

glad to see there other people who'd like to explore the parent's side of the parent/child relationship in a rpg, for me personally it's a great way to add more depth to the character of hawke if used correctly

I think children should be like fable 2. When the character dies, he or she has extra "lives". The extra life is actually the character's child or children. So then they grow up to be exactly like "you" down to the point where they take over and replace every aspect of your former life.

And to have more "lives", you simply make more children.

It was cut out but it might work for this game. :)

how would it work if the game spans over 10 years, also the dragon age is only 100 years long, what would happen if you died a few times? the dragon age would be over.

another problem would be with npc's ages if you died a few times.

this just wouldn't work

On one hand I'm curious as to what a lemon party is, on the other hand my curiosity has led to cases of "AGGRAAGHAAGh!! Posted Image" in the past, plus what has been seen cannot be unseen... To google or not to google...

You could always be the hermit flannel-wearing lumberjack with dog. Or just plain crazy hermit in cave with loincloth. Not as contemporary as cat lady, but wth.

As I'm not near ready to have children, being a parent in DA2 would likely feel awkward to me. Personally I've always wanted to be someone's crazy awesome aunt, though.

i'm hoping to get to raise the kid and teach him/her chivalry and a few skills on swordsmanship.

i'd be even happier if our child's future would appear in the epilogue.

EPILOGUE:
Hawke's son and or daughter, after living a life of neglect due to his/her father's heroic escapades, grew up to a life of solitude and broken promises. One day, after a lifetime of being ignored, he/she/they was/were now a man/woman and simply vanished from the pages of history. Nobody knew what had happened to this child/children. And neither did his/her/their father/mother.
