PS: Thanks for making the topic by the way, I was actually debating between which class to play next(I had it down to Infiltrator or Soldier) and writing out my thoughts like this helped me make up my mind.
despite this entire post, the infiltrator is my favorite class. They're both very capable of completing insanity. Hope this helped some

I would recommend the infiltrator, tactical cloak is nice when crap is hitting the fan.
Tactical cloak makes you invisible, not "ethereal"....
I've been killed, more than once, by krogan shooting at my allies.
No kidding. Human shield operation sort of thing....

If that's your conflict then Revenant soldier, it's so good the game becomes a joke. Widow Infiltrator will almost always run out of ammo, unless you switch up on weaker enemies.Cypher0020 wrote...
Oh boy. See.. I had a lv. 17 Infiltrator on casual to test it out... and foolishly deleted it..... and since I'm watching YT vids..... I'm totally torn between the two classes...

But personally I think you should go for Widow + Mattock Soldier.

I remember originally thinking I was going to build a Widow Infiltrator and a Revenant Soldier, but changed my mind after playing both classes for a bit. I can see with my planned 1s/1k Widow Infilitrator, I'd just be cloaking invisible, taking headshots, but only the SMG for other ranges really. With the Soldier, not only is sniping more powerful, but I can also use AR with the GPS and the Mattock too. So now my plan is a Widow Soldier and a GPS Infiltrator. We all already know the Widow Soldier is beastly, but this way there will be more weapons to use with the Infiltrator's Cloak as well as the ability to shotgun mooks in the face. And really, what's the point of going invisible if you can't walk up dead infront of an enemy and shotgun their face off

I snipe a lot as a soldier and would run out of ammo often. I never run out of ammo with the Revenant. Combine the Revenant with Inferno Ammo and you are very effective against shields and armor. Toughest fights on insanity for me were against Pretorians until I figured out how to use obvious terrain features to my advantage.
I have hardly any ammo troubles as a sniper soldier much because I use my shotgun, assault rifle, and sniper pretty evenly. I like it that way too, utilizing the three major weapon classes. That's the whole fun of the Soldier class to me.

Sniping with a Soldier is a different beast. Since you have all the weapons, you should be using all ranges of combat. If you sit back the whole time and aim to snipe the whole fight, you're gonna run out of Widow ammo quick. Liberal use of all weapons (yes, even your Heavy Pistol is good) makes everything not only go faster, it makes the experience more enjoyable. Plus, Adrenaline Rush is king. Can't argue with that.

Vanguard.
This.
Faster kills, no need for cover and great close combat.

Once you've acquired the necessary skills to dominate Hardcore - moving between cover spots, stripping defenses quickly to enable crowd control, keeping your squad alive (or learning how to fight without them, for those inclined), using powers to conserve ammo, and popping upgraded Medigel in emergencies - you're set to take on Insanity; the only major difference there is the amount of damage you take from getting hit.
When players say "Insanity is a lot easier than I thought it would be" - it's not really that Insanity is easier. Rather, they are comparing the small increase in Insanity's difficulty to the much larger increase in their own skills, hard-won from clearing Hardcore.

Note: I would recommend slowly ramping up. Maybe try a game on Veteran then Hard then Insanity so you won't get as much of a shock from the scaling difficulty level. If you try it anyway the good thing is that you can beat the game reasonably well with almost any build.

In terms of dealing raw damage no class even comes close to it. It has every gun, you can take out whichever gun that best suits the situation in front of you. You can also switch ammo types depending on the situation. Adrenaline rush is ridiculously good in terms of damage and manuverability. It's pure offense results in you taking very little damage at any difficulty because enemies just die.Korjyan wrote...
I'm wondering why so many people say the soldier is great. My first playthrough was with a soldier which I liked a lot in ME1 and I had my ass kicked so many times for some reason. I played a Sentinel afterwards and it was so much easier in comparison. Then I played an Infiltrator and it also was way easier than with the soldier. And I wasn't even handling the Infiltrator too well I guess. So I'm really interested why exactly the soldier is considered to be such a good choice by so many people here.
It's so versatile you can just play aggresively which is fun in my opinion. Infiltrator feels like watered down soldier.
