Did you really off Flemeth? Or was it just another one of her many tricks. Really did Flemth ever strike you as the type of character that actually wants you to know what she is up to? Not me :)
Is it really just Morrigan carrying on her "mothers" plan? Again Flemeth is a long term thinker and was never seemed to worried   about the blight, archdemon, the warden, or what Logahin was up to. Again if you "kill" Flemeth she seems very unworried about you meaning her ill. For some one as old, wise and powerfull as she is that seems a little odd. Those type of characters rarley every take their impending doom so gracefully.
Hardecore evil and ruthless is avery thin line in my opinion. Just saying.
I dunno when I denied helping her with the dark ritual she slinks off like theres something else she really needs to take care off and then in the ending cards there she is again slinking off. No Morrigan never struck me as petty but she never struck me as stupid. Stupid as in sticking around after doing something you allready objected too. Remember in one of her conversations she does admit that she can shapeshift into other humanoids but it requires her to know the person she is shifting into (well enough to imitate them) and "has never felt the need to do it before".
Just playing devils advocate. I have said it before (in other threads). DAO the DLCS and the expansion all felt like we were just getting our toes wet in this universe. Getting intrduces to the lore, races, politics, and characters that seem to have a bigger role in the world then one would first think.

even if I didn't really kill Flemeth (I agree with you, by the way, and her reappearance in DA2 confirms it) that still doesn't explain why Morrigan would want this old God baby. She is obviously no friend to Flemeth (she got me to try and kill her after all) so she Isn't trying to turn her into an old god via the posession technique. And I think posessing her own baby is a line the morally grey morrigan wouldn't cross. Therefore, she had no real use for this baby, apart from vaque, Deus ex machina-esque platitudes about wanting to "preserve" it. And what do you mean by "doing something I already objected to"? Morrigan didn't get an old god baby if I objected. Instead she stormed off out of spite, just because I didn't sleep with her, right before a Momentous Battle. Very petty and out of character. I refer you to my first post: the ritual was a blatant plot device. I also refer you to my first post on this not changing the fact that Bioware kicks ass. :D

Aye, he's a good writer, a little cliche in a couple of areas in DA:O, but still very good. It's hard to write a fantasy themed story, I've tried before when I was younger, due to all of the ideas having been used a lot of the years ofr many fantasy themed books, games and movies.

A writer has to be able to create from nothing, not an easy thing to do. I'm a writer myself and know how hard it can be at times, already been working on a story over the past decade which keeps building more and more to the point where I made an entire new history, set it on a different Earth where things went a different path during the birth of Christ, worked and reworked many of the character's parts and learned several methods to explain a lot within the story and how it all connects together.

Not easy. So aye, he's a good writer, I'm interested in what the DA2 story will be like and just how immersive it will be.

I have been back and fourth on this for a long time now and I don't think I have been fair to either side and again i'am sorry to David, the people that post on this forum.  I won't ever lie, I will buy DA2, I  have faith that it will be a good story and  have hope some where down the line to see that the Warden and Morrigan go off as one into the sunset, but really who knows, it's a game, have fun with it, thats all we can ask for.

I have more faith in David and his team at the moment than I do, say, the Mass Effect team, but too much of the rhetoric and lead up feels just identical to what we heard with ME2.  BW already used up their "just trust us" free pass prior to ME2, so I think I'm going to have to pass on DA2.  Maybe in DA3 if they get back to telling the story of what happened to the Warden after the end of DA1 I'll be back.  If not, then not.

Then I guess we won't have to deal with you anymore because the Wardens story is done.

I blame the interent and the lack of interesting times.
By interesting times I mean a time filled with problems and people suffering severely.

I hear David Gaider once tossed dead-end story ideas into the Mississipi River. Mark Twain later based the Huckleberry Fin off those discarded notes!

I have no idea what you are talking about OP but I will say NARUTO > DRAGON AGE.

Better characters. Better realized world. More imagination. Funnier. And ninjas.

I must respectfully disagree with you. Naruto stopped being better when Pein rez'd everybody. Then it just got ridiculous as all hell.

Dragon Age > Naruto.

Though I will say one thing. Berserk beats BOTH. Phenomenal writing, story, and characters, and a immersive world.

Berserk > Dragon Age > Naruto.

David Glider writes character like supposed to be Roman Polanski Jewish man piano hell movie. Not, video game sex with squid lady's in sex gear, save universe bang bang. Ridiculous come across very much. Valve much better self aware video game, Portal, Halfife 2, big superior, very big, probably the biggest.

I'll point out that I have nothing to do with Mass Effect. I am the lead writer for the Dragon Age project, not the lead writer for BioWare.

As some have pointed out, I have a team of writers that work with me to create the story and the dialogue, but I'll happily accept any compliments on behalf of the group. All the writers who worked on Origins are back for DA2, so I'm sure the particular style we use should be recognizeable to you all. Hopefully you like what we've cooked up for you. B)

When DAO/DAA were being developed, did you or anyone else on the writing team ever get a sneak peek at what the Mass Effect team was doing? Do the different teams share thoughts and ideas about each others' projects? Or are both teams kept pretty much separate during development?

I'm happy to hear that all of the writers on DAO are back for DA2.  That definitely bodes well for the game, if you ask me.

I have to partially disagree with the op.

I mean, to me the plot was not so great. The characters were great, the dialogues were great, the background of Thedas was great, most of the main missions were great (though with too many unavoidable combats, I hope BioWare reduces them in DA2), and the whole game was great, but the plot itself... I think BioWare (and other developers) had provided better stories in the past.

I mean, after all it was the usual stuff with this terrible menace to the world's safety (Archdemon and the darkspawn) and you had to get an army to fight and defeat it. Yeah, the politics part was very good as the other elements that surrounded the storyline (I don't know the exact word, but I'm referring mostly to the background elements) were great and all, but if we focus on the story alone, while it's epic, spectacular and intriguing, it could be done in a better way.

Nonetheless, the writing team did an excelent job imo, due to the background, dialogues and the other things I said earlier. Yet, the plot was someway simple in its structure and scheme.

With DA2 I think the team will provide us a better story - and keeps the very good quality of the companions and the dialogues, and maybe expanding the background with other stuff - as the framed narrative, the plot focused on the hero and the lack of the ancient evil to defeat are good steps in the right direction (if I have some doubts on DA2 they're on some of the changes to gameplay and design, not on the writings) and had a lot of potential.

Naruto is tripe for children.

There's only a handful of good anime out of literally thousands of some of the worst writing that mankind has ever known.

I would rather watch Twilight on a loop than be subject to a single episode of Naruto, Bleach, Dragonball, et al.

You're further than me it would seem as I haven't a clue what you are talking about.

However in this debate I can win with one word.

Oh well, it's a shame some people just can't have fun.

Naruto and Dragonball are great shows for children instilling strong values of friendship, honour and determination.  And perhaps the greatest lesson of all: have fun!

The only reason kakashhi is not dead yet is because he took the eye of some 12 year old brat.

i don't read books centered around games because mostly these are very plain, boring and filled with clichès. the online reviews about "the stolen throne" and "the calling" are sounding similar. seems like david gaider horribly fails as a writer of novels.

Having read both novels, I wouldn't exactly call them epic pieces of literature by any means. They do a decent enough job of setting up the lore of the DA universe but not exactly pulitzer prize material by any means.

Have you guys played Fallout, Bioshock, or even Vampire: Bloodlines? If epic is the top of the writing scale, I would say David is a 5 maybe 6 on a scale of 1-10. Don't get me wrong I like Dragon Age, but its just missing a lot of key elements that make video game writing groundbreaking (at least to me). I know its difficult to create a world, but something original would've been way harder. I mean Fallout was just extremely original in the gaming world, and I have yet to find something that is similar. I consider the writer(s) of Fallout to be epic. On another note, the writers for Planescape: Torment ultimately shredded any thought that video games and novel writing is a seperate thing. I mean the writers for that game created art, and its very underrated. I just wish people gave as much credit to classic games as movie fans do to classic movies.
