Good writer yes but seriously, a little too much fawning perhaps. Game writers still have a ways to go yet before they get to the meat of what should be a truly great gaming experience.

Besides, arguably the writing team didn't quite get it right based on some of the more heated, what was that term earlier..."nerdrage" ...expressed as regards the fate of the Warden.

After all, coming fresh out of DA:O, and Awakening many of the finale variants left the tale quite obviously open ended for the Warden. ( that uncertainty, that hint of more to come is in black and white, 'written' down for all time ) And so that's what many players believed, having come to that particular ending. Hence the OP's admittedly OTT reaction ( with added Ad hominen ) but more muted, quite understandable, sensible and similar reactions from others.

Except, of course, the writers now inform us the tale is done. So they didn't make themselves that well understood when writing the epilogues to both Origins and Awakening then. So points deducted there for a bit of 'bad' writing :)

The novels are ok; nothing stellar in them but nothing bad either. If anything, the stereotyping could have been avoided (bumbling hero turns world-wise; strong, conflicted buddy; extremely childish oppressor; scheming side-kick) and more so in the game. To portray Loghain like that after the books was...bad.
The other issue with the Origins characters was one-dimensionality - especially apparent in Sten, Oghren and Leliana. Even the others had moments of insanity but less noticeable.
As for the story, Bioshock, Metal Gear Solid and even, KotOR were better crafted stories, IMO. That is not to say Dragon Age wasn't bad...just that it was too bland at certain places and while some of that is understandable due to the choice-driven game, parts of it could have been done better.

I am guessing that the writing will be better in DA2 now that they are more comfortable with the world.

Hopefully you like what we've cooked up for you. B)

I have no doubts on this matter. The only question is "How much?".

The Origins team did a fantastic job. David Gaider wrote some excellent novels to supplement the game's story, and I can't wait to see what's in store for Thedas next.

Seriously, I can't wait. Moar. I want MOAR.

The writers of Dragon age were far better than the Mass effect guys

But in a way it was the same story. Gather an army(or allies) and defeat the archdemon (reapers). However, i played dao first so i blame it on ME for stealing.

I just finished reading the two Dragon Age novels, and I enjoyed the stories very much, especially The Stolen Throne. It was very nice to learn more about the history of Ferelden, and boy! was I glad that I chose to make Alistair king in the game! The two characters –father (King Maric) and son (Alistair) – are very much alike, but I liked that. It was fun to learn that Alistair inherited his goofiness and so much more. The one thing I would’ve liked differently was a better balance between description of surroundings and dialogue. I would also like much more dialogue in the game, but I know that there are some limitations there. The interaction between characters was what I enjoyed most of all about the game.

To the point of my post now: Mr. David Gaider, are you planning on writing more novels about the world of Thedas?

I really hope so, because you got me hooked. :)

There's this legend that, if you sneak into BIoware studios at night, when nobody is there, and listen really really closely, you'll hear the sound of someone scribbling with a pen. And if you follow this sound, you'll be led to a room that looks too big to be where it is in the building. If you go inside, you'll see where David Gaider's ideas come from. But if you go inside, the thing thats scribbling the pen will notice you. And you must run.

All I can say is, Mr. Gaider better write in that male LI like he promised in this thread or I will be unhappy.  Very unhappy.

I'm thinking Clive Owens, myself. The kind of guy with that broken-nose ruggedness, the sort that would pick you up like you weighed a feather and throw you against the wall to kiss you. The sort that growls more than he talks, that sort of thing. I'll have to try writing someone like that sometime.
